A straight airframe would make this company sell more kits. If they want to keep selling them. It's people like you and I that have the experience to make the mods so we can keep flying them. Do you think the kit you made mods to would have survived if you didn't make them? At least you made it safe, without them it wouldn't be SAFE....

Agreed!
Too bad we the consumer have to do the R&D
The good news is I now have another airframe, my good friend Flyaway felt bad about my Formost so he lent me his that he didn't finish, so I am bashing away on Formost #2.
Another interesting discovery I made over the weekend is I found out why my Formaot #1 went in, I thought it was a bad hand off of the transmitter...turns out it was a bad right stick on my Futaba 9C Super, don't ask how I discovered this
The worst thing is it was very intermittent and this is why it was not detected right away
The problem manifested itself in the right gimbal, mostly in the aileron. The problem is when you move the stick off center the servo acted like there was expo programmed into the Tx. I could move the stick a ¼†before detecting any servo movement. I don’t use expo so this was my first clue that there was a problem. When I went into the D/R, expo menu to view the graphic the malfunction became very clear. The line representing the stick movement would not move with the stick, then it would intermittently go to 80% , then sometimes 100%
What is really scary the elevator started doing the same thing., lucally I had another radio I could steal the gimbal out of to repair it.
I think I need to have a chat with Futaba.

Good to hear that you and I agree. You are right, too bad we have to do the R&D on these planes. They are real good flyers when they are done right. I had another club member standing with me and he said that it looked like it flew real well, after I got it trimmed out. He was impressed how well it tracked through the rolls. Now you have to rember that I have my ailerons cut in half. I was using almost 1/2" up and down. That will reduce the barrel roll effect from the full length ailerons. I plan on being at Liberty Bell with it.
If you make it down, then we can meet and discuss any other mods that we might think of, like some sort of speed brake. You know it's funny, I don't use Expo either. Also I put in a wooden dowel in my aluminum spar. It made it real stiff. We didn't see any wing flex at all

Hi Rich,
It's good to see you working on the Second Formost. I'm suppose to be getting a new right wing panel from Nitro Planes for mine. Right now I have at least 10 flights on it. I have cut the idle speed down to 33K rpms and it still lands a little fast. I might try to lower the idle rpms some more. I just have to becarefull on the aborted landings, because Bob Wilcox said it will take longer to get back up to the 35K rpms where it was set before. Don't want to have it on the ground before it spools back up....

Hello Larry,
I took you advice and made the flaps bigger, they are cut to 13" and the ailerons are 10".
That cut worked perfect as it allowed me to slide in a piece of tapered hard balsa aileron stock to make a place for the aileron horn mounting. All I had to do was add a piece of covering to the very end of the surfaces on the ailerons.
On the flaps I had to make a small 1/4" filler out of tapered hard balsa aileron stock to reach the internal rib.

Hello Idleup,
I don't need anything cut at this time, here are some shots of the front bulkhead mod I made in order to get the battery up in the nose, also some shots of the middle tray assy.
I had to lower the position of the servo and the valve in order to clear the top tray.

RE: What do you think of FORMOST 150 ?
thanks.
I will make an opening as well. Ihad just glued the small round bulkhead in and was going to make the floor removable, luckily the hysol was not set as I would prefer to move the batteries than to add lead.

Hi Rich and all,
I just got my FORMOST 150 and Vortex today from the factory. I plan to do a complete overhaul on this one to make it ready for a P60. This thread has more than 25 pages, too long for me to summarize all these new discoveries and modifications. Does anyone have a summary of these modifications that can be shared with here? Here is what we (my builders and I) are going to do
1. build a new epoxy fuselage so we can get rid of the ugly tank looking canopy and stingy polyethene resin fuselage, it would be more aerodynamic, sharp looking, F16 or F18 like nose, or Rafale ?
2. add spoilers on the top and bottom of the airfoil near the wing roots.
3. design a new retract system that is durable for grass field, dirt field, and of course hard landing so that even my grandma can land this plane!
4. making a set of fuel tanks for jets and external stores for smoke.
5. make a built in, integrated FOB screen on the nacelle.
6. the nacelle will sit in the back of the plane like the HE262 or A10 like configuration (1 engine only)
7. After all are done, we will make a small production with the OEM factory's co-op.
8. Add functional canards on the phase II project.
So here is my 6 month project and see how we can turn this "Almost turbine" into a 100% turbine or EDF plane that's unique for our club rookies and whoever.
Sounds good to you? If so, let's all pitch in and see what we can come up with. If there are enough people interested in this project, we will mass produce it enough to recover our development and tooling cost.
Let me see what you think. This should be a fun project.

Geez, an over the top "scratch" build on top of a <$300 airplane and you didn't even mention the real problems - the wings & booms.
All it needs is a strong straight wing set up, a little strength in the booms and a speedbrake. Flaps are nice but really don't solve the landing issue. I put split flaps under my wing roots and that didn't get it either. After freeing up an extra channel, I got crow into the system and now you can almost spot land it, except it handles funny.
But it is sort of ugly and the glass on my fuse is sagging like it's a 100 years old. However, it's got nearly 200 landings and the original, unmodified gear mounts are still there.
Have fun, but it sounds like way too much work!

Mike it was a pleasure meeting you
it wont be 6 months , believe me...
this factory has one thing in mind and that is make a sale only
every idea you tell them , will be assimilated into there hive.
the only thing that comes from that is a higher price for each kit , and NO other kits.
they have hundreds on stock
they simply call them Ver1 ver 2..
Nicolas and me tried numerous times to talk to them , and share our idea,s.
they copied all ideas without thank you and increased the price with 75usd and NO changes have been made.
i like your style and effort , but i hate to break it to you , it is a lost cause...[:@]

Hello Guys,
many thanks for your helpful advises here. Am also an Formost 150 owner with a jetcat 60.
My Jet has 5 flights in orginal version. Now i diecided to make a go around and will follow your steps to change the dangerous parts.
I flew the first flights very carefully. No damage till now...
this jet flies to good, to put ist into a corner of my hangar.
Hopefully with some changes i have an very good looking an flying jet...
Greetings
