JetCat Speed sensor & range questions

Does the speed sensor need to be calibrated before use or are the factory settings good enough? Also how do I know for sure if I hooked the air lines up correctly? The more I look at the diagram in the manual the more un-sure I am.
TIA

you really should contact Jetcat for that information. It would be far better than the "it outta be like this" information you will gather in a forum like this. Bob wilcox's email address is: [email protected]

The sensor requires no calibration.
The most critical element is installation. You need to get the port out of the boundary layer.
In a nose installation you only need about an inch to an inch and a quarter total length. Just follow the instructions for other installations
As for whether it is hooked up correctly, just set the GSU to the run menu and cycle through the displays until you see a speed readout, then blow into the dynamic port ( the little hole on the end of the pitot), you should see the speed go up.
The static port is arranged so that you will not have the potential reference errors that other speed sensors have, and the sensor is temperature compensated as well!!

Thanks Matt
It's amazing what you learn when you get the book out and read. In the manual it states that you can blow into the pressure sensor and read the speed in the Run menu. I did and it was hooke up right. 40 psi in my blow gun held a couple inches in front of the sensor read 300+ MPH or was it KPH. Any way it worked. Now all I have to figure out is why I don't have enough radio range. 25 paces with the antenae removed from a JR 10z.

Test the range with the ECU battery plugged in and then again with the battery unplugged. You want about 10% range reduction at most.
Also, check that the black data cables are as short as possible. I shorten mine I have the special crimping tool, DO NOT try to buy phone cable from Radio Shack, you will damage the ECU.
Email me if you still have problems. How close are you to flying?
Good luck

Ok Guys
Curiosity is killing me!!!!! I had a bad experience flying my last jet. What does Radio Shack cable do to the operation of the Jetcat?

Hi Gary:
We and a freind both have 10x and tubines. Last summer we did a lot
of testing when we were unable to get any range with the antenna off the tx.
Long and short of this testing was you need to make sure you have a voltage regulator if your are using a 5 cell 6v pak as we found this to be the problem with the range when used with a 6v pak unregulated dn to
4.8v.
Talke to Jr tech and they dont seem to acknowledge this anomaly.
After putting the regulator on or using a 4.8v pak the range was 60-70yds and counting. With antenna back on signal was rock solid with engine running and off out to a distance of at least 1/2-3/4 mile as that was the limit of our test area.
Test was done with model on the ground and the tx held at hip ht.
Our particular model is equipped with a whip antenna that has been tuned to the reciever.
In our testing we also changed receivers, bat paks, switches, wiring harnesses, antennas. The fix was pretty simple.
Good luck, try this and see if yours is the same. Will be interested to hear how you come out.
Rolling out.

Here is a copy of an email I sent to Bob Wilcox at Jetcat USA, along with his reply. I think it is somewhat relevant to this thread.
Galen
" I have a Jetcat P-120 with airspeed sensor that I purchased from Nicolas of Spiderjets. I noticed that you say not to use mph in setting it up. Would this apply to my ECU also since it was delivered from Spiderjets? If so is there a software fix being planned? Also the data retrieval disk is in DOS with a note that a Windows 98 upgrade would be available to down load soon. I have searched both Yours and Jetcat's European site and cannot find it. If it exists could you tell me where it is located or where I can purchase the Windows 98 version?
Thank you,"
Hi Galen:
We will have the new Windows program on our Web site shortly. You will be able to download it from there.
The MPH bug is in all ECU's up to and including 2.01U. This is the same no matter where you bought it. There will be a upgrade available in the next couple of weeks and it will be announced on our Web site.

From: Valdosta, GA,
Not knowing the cables were wired different, I bought some short ones from Home Depot, because the ones that came with the engine were too long.
As soon as I switched on the ECU, I had smoke coming out both ends of it. The ECU was shot but repairable. JETCAT USA replaced the ECU at Fla Jets with a new one and at no charge!
Customer service doesn't get any better than that guys!
