Great job.

Have you dared to weigh it yet?

I hate it when I'm right. The A-10 is fineshed and it weighs 25,2 kilo's dry. I will not be able to fly it here in DK as it is. I'm off to a jetmeet now, so no replies from me the new week or so.

Here is a 72" wingspan hog. I have been working on the molds for the last year and a half and finally finished the last molds a few weeks ago. Every thing is molded besides the main wing which is foam or built up ply ribs (2 versions). Put a lot of time in designing the built up wing but decided that it was faster, easier and a little lighter to do the foam wing. I will eventually pull a mold and do a molded main wing. Molded flaps and ailerons.

Nice looking A-10 you have there. Why don't you start a new thread about it, specs, glow or electric, any plans to sell kits? AUW ?

I am setting this one up for electric. I do have someone who will be selling the kit. I just have a few odds and ends to wrap up. I am finishing the main wing up now. Hopefully within the next few weeks we can get a test flight in.

After the summer vacation I have had the A-10 out on the field once. I thought I wanted to see how everything works. Both engines run perfect and the Weatronic RX is working great as well. So it should be OK for flying if it wasn't for the weight. The all up weight is a little over 28 kg. Here is a picture of the A-10 on the field for the first time.

Edit: More pictures uploaded.

I have started working on a new tail and wing that are built up of balsa and plywood. I hope to be able to save the 3 kilo's of weight during the coming winter.

ORIGINAL: I_Fly_Coolers

Got my 5" fans and speed controls directly from United Hobbies in Hong Kong. These things are friken' HUGE!! [X(]Need to order the Hacker motors next. Others have tested this combo at 17.5k RPM and approx 12 lbs of thrust each unit, giving me 24 pounds of thrust total. I don't see the electric version coming in at 50 pounds- using the batteries to get the correct C.G., etc... I am hoping for somewhere around 30-35 pounds AUW.

Put 6 nice flights on the baby hog today and finally got her dialed in!!

And thanks for posting pics Stig !! Keep them coming !!

Hey coolers
Have you done any more testing on the united hobbies fans? I have a pair of these that i was going to set up in my A10. Just curious what the outcome was.

I never did anything with the Uh fans, However, more recently I found this:

http://www.swanghobby.com/product.ph...age=1&featured

Looks like the UH fan with a Chinese motor, they claim 10.75 lbs of thrust, which sounds do-able, but don't know at what amp draw ??

Also, Sending you a PM....

Hey coolers
Thanks for the response. Those motors seem like they would be a big savings in weight for the rear compared to the ones that united hobbies suggested. Way smaller. I just wonder how good they are. I have the 4.5" and 5" united hobbies fans. I will have to get a pair of these and try them out. I still have not had time to try out the ones i have.
I saw a demo of the real plane in chico, california this last weekend. There was only a handful of people that were able to get close to them and i was fortunate enough to be one of them. I was able to get some walkaround video of the outside and in the cockpit. Tried to get as much detail as i could. The pilot strapped 2 cameras in the cockpit, one facing forward and one back for his demo. He showed me when he came back. I should have had him strap my camera in. Pretty crazy.
I have checked out your ejf warthog and you have done a great job on it. Nice weathering. Seeings im not much for painting I was thinking about asking you to do mine. Robert at ejf seems like a great guy to go to when it comes to the A10. I have talked to him for hours before and discussed selling it on his site. It seems like you do great work as far as building and i would be happy to get one of these out to you. The only thing i would ask for is material cost, shipping, and a little extra to slip to the guy that has been helping me so i can keep him motivated. Even though i am in a great slump right now, i dont care to make money off the first few. Just want to get a few out there and get them rolling. Just let me know if you would be interested and thanks for the info on the motor.

Stig I saw on the Danish thread you are rebuilding to save some weight. I am working on getting some new wingtips made from blue foam. The glass ones I have are quite heavy. Hopefully I can save about 6-9 oz here.

Hey Brad.

Yes, that is correct. I need to reduce the weight by 3 kg (6,5 lbs) in order to fly my A-10 here in DK.

Hello
I just come back from the BEIJING Model show. There were a lot of very interresting electric jets.
Especially this electric turbine: tested on the stand during all the exposition. the static thrust is 1.5 Kg ( 14.7 N ) . Rotor diameter is 68 mm and 5 blades.
May be that could interrest you for the little A10.
Here is the link.
Best regards

Hi All.

The A-10 has flown now. I did the maiden flight yesterday in Odense/Denmark. It flies really great and I was amazed to find that it flies quite well on the two SimJet 1200's. Here are a few pics and also a video link.

Hey Stig
I just watched the video of your A10 maiden. Looks like the A10 flies sweet! Nice video. I was suppose to have my maiden this coming weekend but looks to be next weekend. It should have been a few months ago but i ended up making molds for the wing and ailerons. I have the flaps but still need to pull the molds for those. The ones on the original wing will work for now. Good luck with your New A10. Hope my luck is as good as yours.

Congraqts on the flight Stig! Just checked back and saw this. That's great!

How much did the bare wing end up weighing?

How much weight did you save in the tail? Were you able to decrease nose weight as a result?

Thanks, John .

I think the wing weighs 12 lbs now. A bit heavy, and I think I could do it lighter if I have to. I would like to add the flaps, as they add to the scale look and of course helps the lift and drag during landing.

I did not use the built-up tail that I made, so the only weight I saved, was the difference between the weight of the engines. The Simjet 1200's are quite light. I was able to decrease the nose weight a little as well.

I hope to fly my A-10 next weekend at our 2nd winter meeting. But the forecasted low temperature might keep me at home where it's warm. (Forecast says 6-10 degrees below freezing point celcius)[sm=52_52.gif] I have done some adjustments to the gear retraction sequence, and I hope to be able to retract the gear fully this time.

I just sat down to check my emails and am leaving in a few minutes on my way to san diego where we will be doing the first test flight tomorrow morning. If you would like a kit, you can contact John Weaver at rc direct. His # is 858-560-9633. When i get back this next week, i will be starting some beta kits which will be selling for a decent price. Give John a call.
thanks
chris
