Show me your engine test stand

I just wondered how people are test running their engines whilst out of the model. I would want to be able to measure the thrust whilst doing so.

This is what I made for all my engines. Any size nitro beam mount, radial mount gas engines and turbines. I have other mounting plates for the nitro and gas engines. The two sliding plates are 3/8" cold rolled steel. I use a 50 lb.fish scale to check the thrust. The legs come off so you can take it to the flying field to run up your engines.

not at all, the only fuel system i use for bench running is i hook my start up/taxi tank directly to the fuel pump.
i can't help but notice in all the above posted pics none have a FOD guard, myself i won't run a turbine at all (on the bench or in a jet) without one.

Here is the one I used to test run my Wrenn SS as it was my first turbine I thought it might be a good idea to learn about turbines on the bench. A little agricultural but I thought it was sufficiently strong to contain the beast.
The most memorable moment occured when on the second run when I advanced the throttle towards full power AND the turbine moved.
After bending the throttle stick on the slow down I found that it had moved in the holding straps. This was cured by lining the straps with wet and dry sandpaper.

I see no reason what so ever to have a test stand unless its some type of home built where you are tweaking and wrenching after each run. Running a P-120 on a test stand is a waste of good air time imo.

i somewhat agree with you Vin that's why my test board is a 2' x 3' piece of melamine with two short 2x4s screwed to one end for strapping the turbine to, i only use it to test runs when i suspect a problem and it's easier to pull the turbine/ECU and run it on the bench them start pulling all the systems out of the jet to find a possible problem. i also strapped my Titan SE down to it for a short run when i got it second hand before installing it into a new jet. no way in the world I'd pay for one and i see no need for all the fancy bells and whistles that some boards I've seen have on them.

For the first turbine it's a good idea to lay everything out on the bench and run it before installing in a plane. Then you can figure out where everything goes in the plane knowing that it's right. And of course for the tinkerers and homebuilders like Jeff it's an absolute must.

Hello,
Here is my favorite test stand used for my P80 and Wren 160.
Before fitting your turbine in a plane, you can easily learn how it runs and also test the kerosene feeding system.

Ok, What size tank would you guys recommend? Im gonna have to grab one from my LHS before I run my engine.
Can I use any filter for my fuel? Maybe a gas or diesel filter?
Anyone make a FOD screen for the Falcon? I don't think Ill have a problem fitting one up but how do you attach it? I see some bolts that I could use but I don't really want to touch them unless I am sure what they are for.

as far as the filter, there should be one included with your turbine. on my refueling jug i use an inline fuel filter from the auto parts place.
