My nose gear has leaked all the oil out. I just left it as it seemed to make no difference. Bigger problem if it's the mains. Not sure what Sandors oleos contain. I will probably get a set of his trailing links, once he is able to supply the three oleos.

Are there any issues with LG leaking??? First time i hear this, please advise!!!

Regards,
One of mine leaked too (after 2 flights!), but this is now history, changed to the Oleo's from Digitech, they will outlast the plane (by a wide margin )

I have almost finshed the viper and changed really everything to make it a good plane.
the last thing i did not changed is the gear and **** the are also leaking oil.[:@]

I hope the plane will fly very good( to make it less worse ) , because the quality ia really dissappionted for the price you have to pay.

is there anybody with a solution for the gear.
Peterjan,

don't think any longer, call Sandor and order a set of prolynx oleo's for the Viper.
that solves all your problems.

Regards Ron

Hello Ron and all the other rcu readers,

I know you are right. ( i know that gear of sandor is perfect )

But what i think is that the factory ( skymaster ) should solve this problem ( it is a gear of 1199,=)

Last weekend i tried to build in the air bottles.
I said to my friend this is the last thing that skymaster delivers in the PRO version. i think i will use these bottles.[&:]

i told my friend what can happened with bottles???? you never guess[:@] ( air leaking air leaking )

so even the bottles were not correct.

If i deliver this quality for this price, i think i have close my shop after a few months.

I think Skymaster should do something about these problems.

best regards,

Peterjan

We just finisched making the upper part for the Viperjet nose oleo,we expect to finish the rest next week.(Fork).
for all customers who purchased our main oleoset we offer a upgrade for the front oleo for just 50 euro,s.
the front spring will also be a lot softer then our mains have , we use our proven spring we use for many years in our Flash/lightning/boomerang models.
the Cool thing is we will supply as a "optional" a front brake.
i am using a front brake for a long time now (on my flash) , based on our smaller 25mm brake we use on our 60 mm wheels.
you can make full power starts without moving , and shortens your landings if you almost run out of Tarmac or grassfield
the Oleo will also be a drop in fit , all you do is exchange your front wheel and steering pin.
we will be also suppllying a new Front pin 8mm that is longer then the stock one.
i think they can be delivered in the middle of march.

Hallo Peterjan,

Yes, you are right, if you pay a lot of money you hope always that everything is OK in the kit and they should deliver good harware for it.
But i have to say, now the Viper is ready to fly, i had almost no problems at all during the buildings.
Airbottles are OK, the complete airsystem is not leaking at all.
The only thing i really changed is that i took bigger cylinders for the geardoors and build in the oleo's from digitech, all the rest was fine for me.
What i only can tell is that skymaster should take better materials for the scale cockpit, for that price it should be better.

Regards Ron

Hi Ron and Peterjan,

Sorry for this problem. It is possible that some oleos went through QC with out picking up the problem. This is the first time some complain about oil leaking. Some fly vipers every weekend with many flights with no problem.

So we will look into the problem and contact you shortly.

Regards

Hi Morne

My front Oleo is also leaking (not finished the build yet) but i don't think it will be a problem. Anyone that can build such a model, should be able to take them apart and re-seat/replace the seals.

If there is a seal kit available, please let me know

cheers

Dunc,

Mine kept leaking which is why I just swapped to Sandor's gear. What you need to keep an eye on is that when the nose gear slowly leaks, it gets harder and harder to get the model off the ground! Before I switch to Sandor's gear I had SM send me some replacement o-rings.

Yours if you want them?

Cheers,
Mark

Absolutely, but a company that is able to take $1200,- for a set of gear, should also be able to make them work in the first place

Hi Morne,

I just want to say that i have no problems with the oleo's, till now they are not leaking oil.
But i have to say that i didn't fly my Viper till now, it is just ready.
So there is no reason for me to complain about oil leaking.
The only reason I switched the oleo's is because i only fly on grass and sometimes on tarmac and because i only fly on grass (sometimes the condtions
of the field are very bad) i wanted to have oleo's that can move backwards.

Regards Ron.

Hi Ron,

I understand. Trailing link is better for rough terrain.

Yes it difficult to know if oleo is leaking or not - until under load. Will make sure they get tested better before shipping...

Hey All,

Am having one of these beauties put together, and am choosing between Jet Central Rhino (36lb) vs. Jet Central Mammoth (48lb) to put in her. I live in Denver Colorado and we lose about 20% thrust due to altitude (6000'). I have heard that she is a very clean airframe and the residual thrust on the Mammoth alone may be too high and make her land pretty fast (too fast). Based on that assessment I am leaning towards the Rhino but I wanted to bounce it off the SM Viperjet experts in this forum first before committing to a decision. Any suggestions as to which turbine would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Shaz

From what I've seen a 36lb thrust turbine is ideal, 48lbs would be a bit much.

Definitely go with the Rhino in my opinion. I have flown the Viper with a P-200 and a Titan and I think the Titan/160 or 36 lbs similar thrust is the best combination. I don't think residual thrust would be a problem on the Mammoth but it would land slower with the Rhino in it. The Viper carries energy very well and we were asked by a lot of people if we had a P-200 in our Viper.

Believe me, he knows what he is talking about. He is the builder and his son Andrew flys the Viper and let me tell you he is one of the best pilots out there and he REALLY knows the Viper, as well as or better than anyone. If says a 36 pound turbine is the way to go, it IS the way to go. Period.

Haha well thanks Dave Ali is the master of the Viper. I would be put to shame against him. The jet really makes me look good with its knife edge flight and slow landing characteristics. Even though the Rhino might only be putting out 30 lbs that is still plenty of push. The real problem on the Viper is fuel capacity and if you had the Mammoth you are pulling 22 ounces out of 3.8 liters and that will only give you 5.8 mins full throttle so you would have to set a timer at 5 mins. You would get more like 7.5 mins with the Rhino and honestly the extra 9 pounds of thrust really won't to big of a difference once its in the air. We fly at 3300 feet and out Titan is probably putting out 32 pounds and its great in my opinion. Just my 2 cents either engine would be great.

Yet another viper installation, this is my child in random pictures.
I'm very near to the maiden flight (I thought this also one month ago...).
I'll post some more pictures when all is really finished.
Thanks you all for the precious help!!!
