Hi Rich
I made up some thin L shaped brackets that fitted between the wing and fuz then hung the model as per your measurements (B - 12.5 mm)

Im not sure if this has been answered but I was looking at the skymaster and the bvm website and it looks as if all the 2m vipers are externally painted now. Didnt some of the color schemes come painted in the mold which saves a little weight?

Yes painted in the mold is the lightest option
but external paint usually looks better and doesn't add that much
more...

Yeah thats what I thought, but if you go to the skymaster website or BVM they dont offer painted in the mold. They are all advertised as Pro External Painted and they are all the same price. Painted in the mold used to be a bit cheaper as well. Didnt know if anyone else had noticed this.

They stopped showing the paint in mold option some time ago, all the VP50's schemes were paint in mold IIRC.

Shame they've stopped doing the painted in mould option.
I got mine from Al's Hobbies and the paint in mould job was pretty good, and a lot cheaper than the other option.

Guys - theres been allot of talk on this and other forums about not using a power box royal and heavy airpower evo valves etc because of adding unnecessary weight etc.
(My viper 2m is now finished and been flown twice with success)
But after i had bought the Royal and the evo my heart sank when lots of people were saying not to install them ...... id already spent the money so what was i to do ?
I spent the whole build worrying i was going to end up with a heavy model and maybe something that would stall easy and spiral to the ground!
so after reading absolutly every thing on rcu re viper 2m's i decided to at least get the turbine as far forward as possible - i cut the intakes right back - even the seam etc
to cut a long story short when i came to ballance the model ( 12.5mm infront of spar) the weight i had to ad to the nose was next to nothing - just 2 small flat peices approx 1.5" x 2.75"(inches) so if i moved the ballance point back to the main spar ( where i think Ali has his) there would be probably no extra weight to add!.
Point being if the Powerbox royal and evo valve wasn't there then i would be adding the weight of these anyway to ballance the model!!!

Just wanted to clear that point up!

Richard

Working on my ViperJet Winter Project - Question on something I didn't see in this thread but may have missed it- Is there a down Elevator to Flap mix required and if so what's everyone flying with?

Thanks!

So deploying the flaps didn't pitch the plane up at all? Nice... Good to hear. I know on my Ultra Flash I have several mm of down mixed in to keep the nose down... Thanks!

Anther one for someone. Does anyone know what type of paint is used on a painted models? I layed my wing on a rag that had some acetone on it while I was putting my servos in and it messed up the clear coat finish? Ugh!!!! Would have to be the top of the wing!!! I need to sand it down and respray the clear on it and don't want to use the wrong kind of paint...

Thanks in advance!

Mike

I used Automotive 2 part Clear coat (such as PPG or NASON or Dupont etc.) with no problems on my wing when I repaired it, look at post 309 page 13 of this thread

Mine was a paint out of the mold also

Hi All,

I'm very nearly almost there in terms of finishing my Viperjet 2m.. but as usual, I have some questions:

1. I'm using a P80SE, did anyone need to raise the turbine to align it with the intake? (I mean raise while looking at the fuselage while it is resting upside-down)
2. Can anyone please post pictures or provide a better explanation of how to mount & secure the thrust-tube?

Many thanks,
Rob

Aligning with the intake is not critical, alignment with thrust tube is important.

You can see my installation photos back on post 331; however I did not have the stock pipe from Skymaster so I substituted a Jet Legend pipe from a T-45

When you guys are checking CG, are you measuring form the center of the Wing Tube or the front edge of the Wing tube? I am having CG issues with a tail heavy condition. All batteries up in nose as far as I can get them.. I attached a picture of my Cheetah installed. Not sure how I can move it forward any further because the pipe isn't long enough. Anyone have any suggestions?

That will pull the end of my tail pipe inside the fiberglass tailcone 20mm. Worried that would burn it. Or maybe I should cut some off the tailcone?

C.G is from the center-line of the main spar, see post 317 for a diagram, see posts 329 for the weight I had to add to verify, and post 357 for a battery tray to get the weight forward.

Thanks Rich for pointing me towards your posts. Sorry- I've read so many posts I've lost track of what I've seen. *L*
Are you flying this with a Cheetah? I see you are using a different pipe. Is it longer? I looked at Eric's install and his Cheetah is mounted much further forward than mine but I can't figure out how with the length of the pipe. I do not want to have to add any weight to this thing so I'm looking at what else I can move around.

20 MM inside the tail cone? Hmm? Did you coat the inside of the cone with anything?

Mine hasn't been flow as of yet, I hope to do so this spring, my buddy has flown his with a Falcon and it flew great!
I am a bit concerned with my pipe as it is for a 80-100 class motor, originally I was going to use my Rabbit, then I bought a Cheetah so I may have to end up buying a Tam pipe if it proves to be too small.
