Hey Mitch.
I think the 2M would make a great second plane. The slow speed handling of mine is superb. I am advising to those looking at getting one, to go for the paint in mould option. For the single reason of keeping the model light.
I am confident that the jet has enough wing to cope with the extra weight, but at the same time I think that the main reason that the 2m flies so well is its low wing loading.
I made a demo flight with my 2m this weekend which was my first 2m flight in a few weeks. I almost forgot how good this jet is. It tracks so well and flies so smoothly. All the controls are so well harmonised.. I love it!
We had the new Jet cat GPS/ Telemetry fitted and landings speeds were in the low 30 mph's! I did a descending tight finals ( Something I haven't done since the A-10) The approach started overhead at about 75 feet with one tight descending circuit which never went more than 100 ft away it touched happily on a spot below where it started from. There are not too many models that I know that will do this and not drop a wing!
Hope this helps?
Regards Al

I hope to hear news of mine shipping this week. I chose a painted in the mould scheme with the goal of getting it in 5-6 weeks.
They must be behind on this model as I am now in the 8th week of waiting
Happy to hear you like your model so much Ali, it looked great at Florida Jets!
Planning on a Wren SS for mine.
Ali can you measure the tail Diameter and the inlet height and width, I have a friend that would like to do and EDF version of this jet.

I was hoping a 120 jetcat would be okay they are so close to being the same weight . I think it would take off very quickly , a bit of throttle management maybe . Gee Ali i was realy loving the canadian scheme . but lighter will be beter. </p>

Can anyone say how much weight the custom paint will add ? If i didnt put all the gear in associated with smoke on board that surely would make it lighter so i could have the custom paint scheme ? I know lighter is beter . But do love the canadian scheme !

My Viper 2m (green paint in the mould) arrived from Ali last week, i also was looking at a custom paint job but Al advised the lighter option,
Not sure if Skymaster have upgraded their finish a bit but i also have to say its very good!
And like Ali said - a bit of T-Cut and polish brings it up to a superb gloss!
This is my first jet, - i think it looks Awesome! - ive seen nothing else to compare!

Ali doesn't have smoke on his baby viper (or any of his models come to think of it) so even if you don't put smoke in, 2k paint will make the model heavier than Ali's. I think we would be surprised at exactly how much weight it adds, by the time it's primed, painted and lacqured, i bet it's not far off a kilo [

The yellow 2m has come up really well with t-cut and polish, i wouldn't hesitate about ordering a painted in the mold model, if i hadn't only just finished building a big viper

With the amount of practise your wrist gets, you'll get it buffered up in no time mate

Can anyone describe or show me how this breaks down for transportation? I will be using a mid-sized SUV for transport and would like to have an idea about how it would fit. Its good to hear that a P-120 works in this air frame, I have one that ah....suddenly became available.

Kirk,
Inlet slant height 110mm
Inlet width 44mm at widest point
Tail outlet diameter is 115mm but there is a former approx 15cm from the back that is also about 115mm.

Can anyone tell me the answer to a question ?
I was told at the field today that a viper ordered in white out of the mould with no colour needs some sanding and cleaning up around the air intakes ect before paint can be applied . I did have a L39 that needed a tidy up in the intakes that was ordered white .
If you order an external painted plane it is all sanded and finnished off before paint ( eg around intakes ect ) and looks great .
My question is if you order a painted in the mould plane has it got some areas that would have been tided up if it was to be custom painted ?
I want to get my order in but want to be sure a painted in the mould is going to look great as well . I have seen on here how some guys are polishing a in the mould paint job aswell.

Oh sure NOW I find out not to get the painted one![:@]
My usual luck Oh well.
I know its done and somewhere between China and here.
I will put it on the scale when I get it so you guys can compare weights to a paint in mold one.
If anyone has one unstarted how about some empty weights?
Mark

Another heads up guys....
My builders put their own 2M together last week ( First from the latest batch with mods) They flew it at the weekend with everything going as per all the VJ's so far.
Things noted were..
The factory have made the tailpipe longer. This means you can mount the turbine further forward thus eliminating the need for any nose weight. My builders seem to believe that it might now be slightly too long for a P-80Se install. It was an easy job to trim it down, and a much better option than adding weight to the nose.
The really good news is that they report the new gear door cylinder placement has worked perfectly. With no mods to the standard kit they had 4 flights with no opening of the doors even during quite aggressive pulls.
They did mention that after shut down they found allot of excess heat building in the top of the fuselage ( Above turbine ) Enough for them to get worried about the well being of the fibre glass. They added some heat shield but it was still getting hot. They got round it by adding half a bypass to direct air out. I have to say that my two have not had this bypass fitted and I cant say i have ever noticed mine getting hot at all, but I will look into it better on the next run.
I hope this helps? If I find anything else out I will update this thread.
