There are no secrets to laying out the vent pattern.
Photo's below should make it very easy.
First make a pattern like the one in photo one.
Put a layer of masking tape on the bottom of the plane and draw a center line.
Mark a starting point on your center line.
Lay the pattern on the starting point and the edge on the center line.
Draw the first cut out.
Move the pattern down till the top of the pattern is touching the cut out you just drew.
Continue until you have drawn 6 vent holes.
Then just simply flip over the pattern and start at the top again on the other side.
I hope this helps.

I really don't see the need for hacking the fuz apart in order to make some vents. I haven't seen any reason for it as yet, in any of the 2M Vipers i've been around. Ali's flies pretty much every weekend and has performed flawlessly, without any modifications.

These vent holes should not be necessary, however when you install the pipe then the fiberglas tail cone, you quickly become aware of how little space (almost none) is there to allow hot air around the pipe to escape. These vent holes placed between the strakes work perfectly. . .we perhaps could have used 2 - 4 less openings, but the results are in. Fuse is warm but not hot to the touch.
The CARF Flash uses NACA inlet style opening on the bottom of the Flash for allowing MORE cooling air in. The egress is quite nice on the Flash. Just the opposite is the case with the 2M Viper. Plenty of air coming in, but virtually no way to get out.
Again, options. . .not the rule! Just sharing with fellow modelers.
Kindest regards,
Eric

Must say I'm not too happy with Skymaster at the moment as it looks like they have lost my order I placed back in April some 14 weeks ago.
Ali however has been extremely helpful about it all so can't fault him/alshobbies.

Hi Reaps,
I've had a 2m VJ on order from Ali's for a while.
I've been asked to confirm my desired colour scheme as the SM factory are getting ready to build.
So things are moving........

Nope, it was definately due to be delivered two weeks ago in a batch so i ordered the last of the bits to complete
However it seems that SM have gotten slightly confused by the request of my colour scheme.
Anyway... definately a balls up somewhere along the line but I'll give it a few days and then see if i'm going to go with Ali's backup plan.

Jjet:
If I have measured correctly, the lower tank is just over 80oz while the upper tank is just over 40oz.
With the Jet Central Cheetah 140, this gives well over 9 minutes of flying time with a cushion for reserve. We actually have just under 1/2 tank remaining.
The CG on my 2M is dead center between the recommended front and aft points. This I find is still slightly nose heavy.
Control throws are good as recommended. I set up dual rates to my personal taste of flying.
Good luck with your maiden.
Regards,
Eric

*(&!!"$, its wait another 8-12 weeks to get the colour i wanted or settle for something else. Pretty rubbish service from Skymaster/Xtreme jets. I would urge anyone else waiting on an a/c from them to be doubly sure they are building/painting the right thing.

Get those Weetabix on board tomorrow morning Colin. The 2m's are now all coming in a wooden crate then wrapped in cardboard.
Thanks for being patient. Regards Al

I am going with plan "A", well plan "B" actually, as when Ali saw my original colour scheme he barfed !
Oh FFS, I meant I nearly purchased the red chequer painted out of mold.
Confused ? You should be, I am.

You are SO lucky, I nearly purchased it this afternoon, as at that time it was assumed you didn't want it !

What i wanted was a paint in the mould blue colour scheme, i.e. no red. What did you order?

As seen at the JMA AGM and flown thoughout the season by Ali.

Ahh
I bought the combo too - have had the p80se up a mates loft for the past 3 months. Don't know why i bothered hiding it though as my wife has openly admitted she has no clue what's in my workshop. Though she did ask if she could do an audit (she's an accountant) but i told her it would be safer for our marriage if she didn't
