Hi Guys

I`m now a proud owner of a new K-80E and purchased it here in S.A. I decided to use the MTH fuel pump and mounted the engine onto a basic test bench. The ecu is the Xicoy version and nicely housed in an aluminium casing. I used a very old 7,2 V 1800 maH battery pack and the engine started first time. It is very important to blead the fuel system very well, before attempting to start for the first time. The amazing thing was how the ecu was controlling the fuel pump. I run it up to full power and back to idle for about 5 times,so that the ecu could learn the turbine`s behaviour.

Thanks to Morne from MN Models, who assisted me in getting this turbine. I`m really very happy with it.

Regards
Craig

Hi

My friend snapped this shot when the turbine was at 141 000 Rpm. The throttle stick was not at full position as I did not have any ear protection.

Regards
Craig

in the video the only sound i hear that you might confuse with a buzzing is the dumping of fuel into the combustion chamber, it's the flame making the noise, it's normal. you can dial down the acceleration (what do you have it at now?) if you want but it's not necessary if it's not flaming out during the acceleration.

That turbine sounds normal to me. Just be careful when mounting it onto the blocks of wood. I saw that the left side mounting (tab with the 2 screw holes) is not touching the wood. The blocks should have been a little wider apart from each other.

Unfortunately the sound doesnt sound very much with small speakers, you need bigger with bass to get exactly the feeling, i try also the acceleration delay from 7 to 3 and now 1, it never flame out. It makes that sound exactly at 110 000rpm and 120 000rpm. Otherwise everything is fine, it starts perfect ang fast with out any flames.

I've got a full surround sound system on my PC with a powered subwoofer (plenty of bass) i don't hear anything unusual.

INDP51,

Your turbine sounds fine and appears to be running great, I wouldn't adjust anything except maybe moving the accelleration delay back up to 6-8. The smaller turbines have a much higher pitch sound when running at higher RPM'S than the bigger turbines. The growl sound you hear is normal when you have the accel delay so aggressive. Its ok to leave it, if that is the throttle response you are looking for. We have these turbines setup & test ran from the factory so all you have to do is install and fly!! (very little adjustments needed) If you insist on adjusting the parameters please write down the original settings so you can put them back to factory settings when you need to. You can also contact myself or Barry with any questions or set up help you need, anytime.

Nik, sounds like you have a powerful little K-80 for the density altitude there, and I would go with Dirk's suggestion to dial down the accel delay a bit and should mild down that transitional growling. Please let us know what your peak RPM EGT is. If everything is fine, I wouldn't worry about it, otherwise you may need the next sized up tail cone. By the way, the factory informed me that after their cleaning of the internal chemical extinguisher contamination, they rebalanced it and runs flawlessly.

Craig, thank you for your report from South Africa, make sure you say hello to Morne for me.

Cheers,
Barry

Here's the new updated operating guide for your reference:

KingTech Turbines "F" series, Kero Start operating guide:

1. Install engine on a simple stand to familiarize components and starting sequence
2. For ECU battery pack, use 3S LiFe pack at 9.9V or 7S NiMh at 8.4V, anytime your residual voltage falls under 7.9V the engine may not start.
3. When Learning RC, disconnect ECU battery to avoid initiating a starting procedure
4. If the combustion chamber of the engine is not properly cooled after a fail start, a wet start may or may not occur on the subsequent attempt, please refer to below to avoid a wet start.
5. If and when your engine fails to start, there may still be residual flame and fuel remain in the combustion chamber, please do the following to avoid a wet start:
a. Stick Low, Trim Low
b. Move Stick forward to activate rotor to further cooling the chamber.
c. Wait at least 3 to 5 minutes before resuming

Hello there guys

i ve had another test run yesterday and i reduced the sound a lot,i almost dont listen anything, i change the acceleration delay from 3 to 10, deacceleration delay from 3 to 6 and stability from 100 to 120, max rpm to 135 000 and everything runs perfect. The temp was 43 f 40% humitdity , i start the engine 3 times there was no flames at all,it started fast and runs perfect. At 145 000 rpm the pump PW was 190.
I have noticed that is linking kerosine from the gas inlet sometimes,i try to do my best but the tube doesnt go more in to the festo, can i replace it with Festo Thread-In Fitting M5 thread - 3mm Tube??????

Also i want to thank the kkingtech factory and chuang cause they were very fast and helpfull with my turbine.Because of my mistake they service my turbine fast and with out any cost

Niko, I am happy that you are having good results now, but please refrain from playing with the settings with your K-80 too much, factory told me after they cleaned your engine from what seemed extinguisher residue, they found your acceleration delay was set at 0, Dirk also forwarded an email of you asking about various adjustments that were unnecessary and detrimental to how the engine will run. Bottom line, if it runs good, leave it!

If your fitting is still intact, please put a drop of oil on the 3mm tubing, and it will slip right into the festo fitting. Without the oil, 3mm tubing is softer and difficult to have a good insertion.

I see, that pump must have been the 30200(F), a pretty powerful pump there. I'm glad everything is working out well, thanks for the clarification.

Cheers,
Barry

Just got my K140F. Looking forward to firing up my first turbine next weekend. Just need help on which way the solenoid valve leads should plug into the FADEC.

Barry,
I just ordered the K-80 from Henry for my F-86D. I fly at the Pikes Peak RC field here in Colorado Springs, which is at 6500' MSL. Any adjustments I should make in the ECU (I know - a Jet Cat term, but I don't have the Kingtech manual yet!) to account for our high density altitude here?
Thanks,
Gus Grissom
