RE: Another Skymaster Viper
ORIGINAL: ViperJet1 And heres my maiden!!!! Flaps got stuck causing a slight teeder to one side but I corrected. First attempt to land I got it too!! Sorry about the camera man .....he sux!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsCGdOeejcE Here another video, nothing special except perhaps for a low passage with lights on viewed by camera leaning on the runway (nothing like the Ali's ones of course). Obviously my friend didn't take the other nice landings but only the bad one...[:@] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Chv3tWRn3sg ... after starting the turbine we turn the Viper toward the runway and the heat of rear exaust shaves my right leg... RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Beautiful ship. What is the length of the runway you are flying from not counting the over run?

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Can someone please help me with sorting out the air system on my Viperjet build, I am having a few problems.
Problem 1 both main gear door cylinders leak air, that isn't too much of a problem, as I was going to replace them with the Robart cylinders as described in this thread a while ago. Problem 2 which is much more frustrating, I need info as to programming the EVSD 5U-Pro valve. So far I cannot get the doors to open and close correctly, ( On my L39 it worked perfectly, but the setup on the Viperjet so far refuses to work) Which mode on the Valve are you using M1, 2 or 3 and if 3 so the nose gear door doesn't close, when the main doors close, did you use another valve to control the nose door and if so what valve was it? ( I have tried Mode 1, but so far I am not having a lot of luck, getting the doors to open and close correctly) While checking I have not attached the Robart cylinders to the doors, so there is no chance of the gear trying to close against a closed door. So advice please. Regards Ross |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hi Ross
I took my nose retract apart and oiled it, which solved the leak. It did take a few attempts to get it to seat properly though. I think i set mine up in mode 1 (certainly not mode 3 as this requires a seperate valve) The main gear doors should be on the same air lines as the nose gear door, so they work in unison. By the sound of it, you haven't used a T piece to connect the nose door with main doors Cheers Duncan |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hi all,
General question, how much weight have you been adding to the nose of the Viper to get her to balance at 220mm? Regards, Murray |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Murray
I didn't check my COG. As Ali was helping me put mine together and he was on Viper number 7 at the time, we knew where everything had to be placed to get the COG in the right area and make it fly nicely. After the maiden i had a couple of mm downtrim, but it flew really wel, so haven't adjusted it all. I had no added weight in mine, although it does have 3 x 5000mah 2S track and field lipos in the nose ;) Duncan |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Murray,
I have 3 x 2S/5500 mA/H LiPo in the nose, and a 2S/2200 mA/H under the front "cockpit tub", two pilots from maffcav, and a P200SX in the back (and a tube from Turbo-Didi), balances on the spot! |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Carsten, don't forget you have the tractor legs on your viper to :D
|
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Duncan,
don't be so rude to me :( You are just sooooo envious that I have the "Original Square Volvo Legs" from Sandor :D:D:D |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
lol sorry mate. Jealous?? nah, if that were the case i know where there are a set doing nothing anymore ;)
|
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hi all,
I have two power box batteries on the front tray just behind the from wheel, are your batteries beside the front wheel or on the tray? Murray |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
2 of mine are beside the front retract and the third onto of the box for the retract. The only lipo i have in the radio tray area is for the lights.
|
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Thanks Duncan,
I have about 1kg to add to get her right with the batteries on the tray. Gotta hate adding weight. |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Mine was in very good balance(maybe a tad behind) with 3x 4000mah up front, over the nose gear, and the "tractor legs"... which aren't doing much after the last flight. :D

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Why not just move them up to the front? I used the hardcased track and field lipos, just for this reason, as there is less of a chance of them needing to be ripped out in a hurry.
|
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
lol Sverrir. that seems to be a common trait with Vipers that have fitted the tractor legs :D
|
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
But it looks so pretty on the tray, ;)
Will investigate this tomorrow morning for sure. |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
lol Some women look great until you move them in and realise they are a pain in the ass. Not talking abut mine of course :)
Murray if you can find away of not having to put 1kg of lead in, then it's got to be worth it ;) |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Good call. I will let you know how the eviction goes. I would love to see 200gms of weight being added, sounds a lot friendlier to fly to me.

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
I have a question regarding how warm the fuselage should be?
I ran the 180 for about 3-4 min on the ground, the top sides of fuselage was very warm, I can touch it with me hands but was very warm to mild hot. Is your Viper like that as well? Allan |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Allan
are you running a bypass?. The only Viper i saw getting hot was Ali's at Pampa last year, when running without a bypass it had a wet start and melted the Fuselage. Mine gets warm, but nowhere near hot to the touch. Duncan |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
No, I'm not running a bypass, it's very warm, I can still touch it with my hands.
I'm just thought that I may had it running on the ground to long. Allan |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
As Duncan hinted at above my Viperjet is no more as of last Sunday. You can catch the final seconds here
The video is cut at 0:23 just before the trouble started and I can't guess how much time had passed when it started again, seemed long enough, probably about 30 seconds. It wanted to turn hard to port and it was quite a handful to fight it, all the time it was going more to the left on the screen towards the residental area so in the end I decided to cut the engine and hope the best with what little control I had, you'll notice a bit of over control near the "arrival". Thankfully it wasn't as far away as I had feared but that's salt water you can see it splash down in. Amazing how fast it starts to corrode things, I spent most of the day taking stuff apart and washing it to try to stop it. The engine had two dents on the casing but was spinning freely and got a good oil bath afterwards. Most of the stuff is going in for a check up. Upon getting to the wreck every servo was working(free) except the left aileron servo which was frozen solid at full deflection, the right wing took most of the impact blow on arrival and the left wing is mostly "intact" so I'm thinking that it was the cause of the accident and not a result of it. I've got the tail bits left, Sandors "tractor" legs as Duncan likes to call them and the original gear all in good working order... any takers! :D |

Duncan you tell it wrong bowlingball: Ali was puzzled why there where 3 of his PRO-staff looking when the smoke and flames came out everywhere. and no one even had the idea of using a CO2 ...... oaf.... |
