Hope this help engine rebuilt HPI site

For the spur gear size experiment with the plastic ones until you find which one is best for you,its way cheaper that way and if you replace the spur with a steel one don't forget you have to replace the clutch bell too.

Im going to be ordering a new pipe this weekend and I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the Tsais vs. a CVEC. Which would you get and why? BTW if it matters at all, I have the stock HPI .18 engine. Thanks

in my experience from my friend's os 18, it has a buch of torque. more than enough for a 1/10. i know i asked a few pages back what parts you break often, but seriously, is there any one part that breaks a lot? like on my nrustler that im going to sell, i break rear shock towers like they are made of clay.

well if your asking for parts in genral bashing, i would say front c hubs, front lower arms and rear ,and dew to tork of engines ,obviously in this thread it would be the spur gears stripping and the front and rear gears dew to inproper shimming just my oppinion anyone can correct me if i am wrong

For me, it would be hubs and spindles, both come in the same package, coincidence? After that, the only other thing that gave me any real problems was the stock diffs. Anything else I broke was due to a bad crash. Lost a rear dogbone the other day after doing a few kart wheels, but due to pure luck, the tie rod for the rear suspension only popped off and even more luckily, the dogbone landed about a foot away! Not too bad for a 3/4 speed kart wheel. Never broke any suspension arms, but I did bend the stock hinge pins. Replace them if you haven't already, they are worth every cent to me, both smoother suspension travel and alot tougher. And one other thing you may want to get a replacement for, the body. Of course I had a dog help mine to oblivion ( this was a result of the failed rear diff by the way, had they been good, coulda ran circles around those dogs) Other than that, the mt2 has been pretty reliable for me. Guess it depends on the driver and maintenance.

Does anyone know of some heavy-duty ball studs with the proper thread and ball size?

I need honest opinions here, PLease and thank you.
I had a Jato last year and raced well with it, But I found hard to control. Then I see HPI has a 4WD stadium truck...HHHHmmm I'm a 4WD kinda guy, So I am thinking of getting me an MT2 18SS. But I would like honest answers as to whether it is fairly durable....I have never owned an HPI product and up until now never thought I would either. But I like the look of this truck. A pal of mine has one but he isnt exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer know what I mean? But he was always yapping that he kept breaking the axle carriers and "C" hubs... So if any of you guys have any experience with these trucks please inform me of all your problems and what not.
I will mostly be using this truck for racing and some light bashing....Very light.
Also if you have any set up tips for on road racing let me know.
Thanks again.

I have the 18ss and its the first nitro vehicle I've owned and the first RC car in 10 years. I found the kit realatively easy to assemble and Im not the most mechanical guy in the world. I had mine together in about 4 nights and that was taking my time to make sure I did it right the first time. The only problem I had was getting the truck started for the initial break-in tank. I actually had to take it to my not so LHS and they were able to start it on a starter box. After that first tank though, it was easy street. I find it easy to maintain and easy to tune. I do some light bashing with mine but mainly run it at an old bmx track due to the fact that the closes RC track is over an hour away. It jumps well and really powers out of the corners. The only hop-up I've added so far are the threaded aluminum shocks and they would pop off the mounting screws on hard landings. A simple washer mounted in front of the shocks resolved that issues. Hop-ups are out there, but IMO it seems like you really have to look for them, unless you want aluminum GPM products.

TEAM-JCJ
Nice truck, like any other trucks out there they are not perfect, had to replace the ball cups by RPM heavy duty ones because they where popping off to often, when through front and back differential because they where not shim properly, i'm going to race mine this summer and i want to replace the clucth bell and spur by those ones ,bell [link]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXLST7&P=V[/link] and spur [link]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLSU6&P=7[/link] i would suggest to replace the brake pad too [link]http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM738&P=ML[/link] like MastaDizasta said i think the weakest point are the C-hubs/knuckles, that was one of the first upgrade i'ved done(to aluminum), there some minor problem but nothing that can't be fixed. Like any other trucks if you abuse it at one point your going to break something. To me it's a very durable truck. I had to deal whit HPI and they have a very good customer service.

What can your wallet withstand?

What are you using it for? (Racing or Bashing or both)

It is like all the RC products. Good and bad points for each. I am kind of a HPI fan. Savage is the 1/8th for me. I have three and love them all. The new X would be a good choice. I thought about getting one, but a RS4 MT2 RTR sounds better for the stable. Just ordered one. Should have it next week. Really looking forward to playing with it.

well i have the mt2 rtr already two of them actual but i just scored a awesome job going to start real soon just planning ahead really but want a 1/8 size truck and was just looking for oppinions ,price range will very i guess in time once i am at this job for my 3 month probation period here in canada but i figure my range would be around 700 in time canadian of course, and yes the savage x seems to be a wicked machine was checking it out at my local hobby shop and it would be probly bashing with rc buds and if i could find a track somewhere that allows these trucks then i would probly be getting into racing other then that racing and bashing with the locals here i guess, and i like the mt2 obviously but looking for a bit more power to so the bigger trucks to me sounds abit better then upgrading the motors in my mt2s,well t15 stock is what i have in one and the trx 2.5 racing engine in the other single speed running the stock clutch bell and spur for the mt2 which is also a .15 but blows the t15 away.plan on upgrading to os .18 for my mt2s in time tho
