proline makes some good
after market tires and wheels.
thats what i`m running for street use.
but they also make some good off road tires and wheels too.
my LHS has a good display of proline stuff so i had alot to choices.
i can`t help you with shock oil. i`m still learning that stuff myself.
i just put on stiffer springs in the rear as i didn`t like the truck sagging the rear.

Being you are running on hard packed dirt and then sand you really need two sets of tires. On hard dirt you want some sort of pin tires. Sorry I do not run on sand so I do not know what to say. Best thing to do is go throw tires on a web site and see what there recommendations are. Most of the tires on Towers web site give some sort of recommendation.
Hard pack dirt something like this.
These are good but do not last very long
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJFE1&P=0
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDT95&P=0
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDX67&P=0
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFHL6&P=0
On sand you might want some paddle tires?

If I understand what you are saying you had a run away? Are you running a failsafe if not you need to get one? Sounds like a loose connection or maybe weak batteries. Could all so interference. If it a RTR with a stock radio?

i was thinking that when i get the truck that i could send the extra hubs to my cousin so that he could machine some aluminum ones for me... that would be cheaper

Hi
I am new to this RC Nitro stuff and just bought a used MT2 18SS and found that the rear turnbuckle was replaced with a stock MT2 turnbuckle.
Any idea what I should get to replace it with an adjustable one?
Where is the best place to buy new ones?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
Being HPI only sells them in sets I would go here type turnbuckle in the search and see if you can fine a pair the right length so you do not have to buy a whole set.

Here is the whole set but they are not in stock at this point.

Sim I could'nt agree with you more...well done. Although i think he did not really understand the whole subject matter though due to his response, well, being innapropriatly phrased. The concept of prefs...prey tell.
I just bought an MT2 18ss and then took the dodgy 18ss out (not even started or ran-in) and put the OS 18CVR with a change of tyres, and sealed my diffs with Traxxas diff oil. Put the CF upper chassis on it as well as the CF front/rear shock towers and CF break disk and generally modded some things for the race course while I was building it to make it stronger. looks very swish. have to run in the engine though first.
Any advice about the 18CVR and its tweeks...?

Thats right it is a matter of preference but also each tool has its needs and place...if you want to put a pull starter on all your engines then happy trails an drive off into the sunset. They are not a race tool and thats a fact. That does not mean people do not use them. I stated my preferences and I stated why, if you dont agree with my prefrence then so be it adn keep your whims to yourself, all in all, that you problem so please stop trying to be so damn confrontational and arrogant. I have told you many times 46U on this thread even before you started to dominate it, which why most of the original members left, not be as you are and try to be less intense. Myself and nitro are probaly the few who were on at the beginning with no problems. You have some great advice but this does not mean its all good, neither is mine, but I dont biggot myself after stating a personal preference and then say "its a personal preference".
Changing the subject...have any of you tried to play with your differentials, with lube and or seal the diff with various weights and viscosity oils...?

How you start you engines is a matter of preference. I do not have a problem starting mine whether I have a flame out or what with my pull starters. I run both small and big block engines with them and in about 6 years I have only broke 2 trying to start my BB when flooded. Never even had to change a one way bearing yet. Lord welling when I get my Hyper 8 I will have my first starter box. Matter of fact I all ready have the starter box because I came across a very good deal. As far as a Roto starter on a small block I am sure they are fine but from what I read in the Savage forum there are a lot more problems with them tearing up then pull starter as well as replacing one way bearing. I am sure it has a lot to do with knowing what you are doing just like with pull starters. But as long as you get the engine started is all that matters.

hey 46u
yes i did. i did have a few issues.
1. the servo saver on the steering needed a bigger
washer. it popped right off. almost ran into a curb. no big deal.
2. the stock brake disk was stuck to the plate. i thought it was
the engine clutch. pulled engine for nothing. i was able to free it up. i went for the carbon disk at my LHS yesterday.
i ran 4 more tanks thur it with the HSN back at break in setting. i` m still getting hot over 280 to 300.
what number glow plug should i use? the first one burnt out on break in.
i`m using the same as my savage. a number 5 or 8. i forget.
speaking of my savage. i put the thing in a lake yesterday.
luckly it didn`t go that far and was stilling running when i got to it.
the water was about half way up on the tires. i fished it out and ran it dry.
last night when i got home i took the truck apart. luckly the water didn`t go up to
the radio box. but what a mess. i never seen my savage so dirty.
its going to take me all week to clean. but at least i didn`t fry the RX or servos.
the guys i was running with had a good laugh. they were telling me stories about
their submarine cars. LOL seens i`m not the frist one to put a car under water. LOL
all and all. great bashing day.

There is a video some where on this forum where a guy runs his Savage in a lake with big tires and it stays afloat. I think the video is called something duck. I worked on my Savage all weekend and still not done do to needing a couple of parts. I am doing a major service and installing the LCG chassis as other up grades that I have been collecting for a while.
Rule of thumb is to run a hotter plug in small blocks then big blocks. Big blocks hold more heat then small blocks. Wondering if you have an air leak on your MT. To me 280 is not real bad but 300 is. I have never owned a HPI .18 SS but some say it runs hotter then other engines. Here are a couple of sites with good information you might want to check out.

This is the brake disc that came with my MT and is all so the one I run in my Rush. I have many gallons on it in my MT and still doing well.

It still has been so hot hear I did not even go to the track to race Friday evening. This old man does not fair in the heat well.

hey 46u
yea thats the disk i got yesterday. i didn`t put it in yet.
i did hit the stock pad with sandpaper. works ok now. if its happens again
i`ll put the carbon one on.
i thought about an airleak too. but when i was building the car i asked my friend.
you think we should seal up the motor. he talked me out of it.
i`ll try screwing with the needles alittle more. it starts fine and makes good smoke.
but no more oil pouring out the muffler, just a drop or two when i shut down.
i guess i shinned the diffs ok. after 8 tanks. they feel fine. i was doing donuts, burn outs, power slides. i love this truck. i can see why hpi stop making a 2 speed trans for it. its fast enough for me
with a one speed. out of control fast with steet tires and wheels.

Probably should have sealed the motor just to be sure that you have no future probs with it...but its easy enough to take out again and do it though. but I would try to seal it though, but its up to you.
Whenever I get a new motor straight out of the box I have sealed it and also checked to se if it has leaks...some actually do. i think of all the engines I ahve had, perhaps 9 out of the box have had leaks, and the 18ss is a good engine is looked after and it does run hotter than some, but its just not my favourite engine though.
How did you run it in BTW, just out of interest...?
