The X in the OS-CV-RX means it is a pull starter. OS CV-R has no pull starter and you need a starter box. If you are going to get one get one with the standard threaded shaft and all your old stuff like flywheel will fit. The OS TZ has way more power and is a great drive train tester and if you do not have everything up dated and dead right you will not run long. In my opinion the OS CV-R or RX is the best all around engine for the MT.

what can I expect out of the OS-CV-RX in terms of torque? I'm sure top end would be plenty but I want the power at low RPM as well since my buddies are running 1/8 and larger scaled trucks with big blocks, I'd hate to be the only one who isn't spinning wheels from a stop. BTW, I'm the only one not spinning wheels now. we do not race and do not intend to, we bash and bash hard.

A lot of variables in this question as it has to do with how you have it set up. Pipe, tuning, tires, gearing and so on. If you have the sorry stock T 15 it will be a BIG improvement.

looking into the MT2 and read the ratings on it, are these comments myths or fact. The engine was a pain to tune (2 said that), the diffs shreaded easily (1 peerson said that), and the rotostart back plate was easy to damage??? I am wanting to get the MT2 as more of a "light basher", noting to extreme... thanks for the info, note, not looking into the ss version[8D]

for me, engine was easy to tune... I run mine hot because engine is very strong. diffs are weak and if you aren't easy on the truck, you trash them. roto start hasn't given me any problems so far. I have about 3 quarts on the truck so far.

what I meant to say was Engine "isn't" very strong.

"any good replacments??"
There are harden diffs and final gears available.

"and if there are, how much???"
I haven't bought mine yet so I dunno what the prices are. you can check towerhobbies.com

"what did it take to break them???"
hitting jumps and not letting off the throttle. when I run, its usually just WOT over anything and everything. I tumble and flip all the time. so I busted steering knuckles as well.

Wow Evo, thats a nice flippin ride. I want to do the rear exhaust too. what cheap pipes do you guys recommend?

thanks, just currious about that stuff, you remind me of my friend, he drives his RC18B WOT over everything and wonders why he is constantly breaking servo savers

Hey rcuser75, thanks for your compliment.

As for regarding a pipe, what engine are you running? Sorry to say if you're still on the stock hpi 15 engine. I rather you save for a new engine and if possible, get together with a new alu pipe if you're running the composite pipe.

Best all around engine for the MT is the OS 18 CV-R or RX.
Harden final gear set HPI part number 86336.

Make sure you shim them diffs!!!!!!!!!

This is one of the many reasons I only recommend the SS kit. In the long run with the SS kit you come out MUCH better and cheaper. All so the SS kit has many other up grades the RTR does not have.

When shimming diffs you are trying to get as much tooth engagement with out bid between the ring and pinion gears (final gears).

thanks, I am a beginner but I guess I should take the expert's opinion??? How much on average does it cost to get an SS going, also, what is the difference between the MT2 18SS+, the MT2 18SS and the nitro MT2, thanks

The 18SS+ is the newest version of the MT2 kit. Best thing to do is go to HPI web site and compare then if you have questions will be happy to try answer them. As far as how much would it cost to get a SS kit going depends on the radio and servos you get.

ouch, sounds not so fun, getting the idea to go with the ss, I just want it to "bash" with, not so much race

I'm going to follow everyones advice and get an OS .18 CV-R with the pull starter. Once I get that, I still want a rear exhaust to keep my wheel free of oil.

also, I've been checking on towerhobbies and seems the diff gears are the same on the 18ss and the RTR? I haven't broken (not stripped, I'm talking 4-5 teeth broke clean off) any since when I first got the truck so I guess it was just a fluke. I will look into harden final diff gears. This alone should be OK for the OS 18. right? I can't see anything else breaking.

Thanks,

BTW. went out yesterday and went through 3 tanks. only ended up with a stripped steering knuckle. hit some really big drops going WOT that made for some spectacular cartwheels that threw dust everywhere. I guess I'm getting better at crashing.

Do you have the 3.0 RTR or the old RTR with the T15?

If the question was for me, I'm got the old T15. had the truck for less than a month and HPI goes and release the G3.0 [:@]

Trust me the rear exhaust is LOUD!!!! But it works great! Keeps everything clean. Try it on an Axial .32 and you will feel like you have been shooting a .45 all day!!

T-15 will do the job.... I recommend an OS .15 or a NITRO STAR T3.0 18 ENGINE - Ya spend $40 more but you will like the results...
