Are you talking about the pastic pipe? If you drilled it out too much there may not be enough back pressure. The HPI polished pipe is good and THS makes a pretty good pipe as well. I know some people have used trinity and traxxas with pretty good results.
On a side note. I have one of my MT2's up for sale in the ad's section if anyone is interested.
No I have the metal pipe. I guess I drilled the stinger out too much.

I guess I will decide on a new pipe soon.

try putting the baffle back in and see if that helps. The stinger would have less of an impact then the baffle will.

I wonder if removing the stinger acts to lengthen the pipe for the shock wave which increases low end and kills top end?

The stinger wouldnt do that, removing the baffle does.

I just put the baffle back and ran it for a little. It seemed ok at first, but then I had the same problem. Once i got it going it go almost die. Do you think its a tuning issue or something wrong with my motor or pipe?

When you change the pipe, or the parts of the pipe you need to retune it because it effects the fuel flow into the engine.

Oops, I meant baffle. I think they are designed to not effect the pipe length.

The baffle will change the inside length of the pipe which will definitely effect the power output of the engine.

4 tanks of juice through the truck today! Running great so far. Just been doing large figure 8's on the road out the front of the house, getting temps up for 5-6mins then shutting down to cool off, not to much throttle use just some short stabs of varying amounts. Will do a few more tanks tomorrow, then give it a proper tune.

One thing I have noticed so far is that the stock steering linkages and camber links have a greal deal of slop in them. I think these will be the first upgrades, along with the steering knuckles as mentioned earlier.

The GPM steering parts will make a noticeable difference in the way the truck responds. Definitely worth the money

For the guys that have the OS .18TZ on your RC.
What clutch shoe do you guys use????
I feel like I go through clutches quite often.

I was thinking of getting the Savage Clutch, it looks like it might fit.

Im actually running a 3 shoe aluminum set up with my TZ. The 3 shoes hook up better then two because of the extra power of that engine

I am getting a OS .18 CV-RX for my MT2.

What is a good pipe to run with that? My shop has the HPI tuned pipe, so I might get that.

Hey everyone,
If you couldnt tell I'm new here but I have a few questions. I'm just getting back into the RC car world and I'm planning on upgrading from my previous electric rc cars but I'm kind of at  loss. I'm looking to build as much of it on my own in my advanced metal shop class at school but I still want to use an off the shelf frame, electronics, and suspension. So mainly I'm going to build the motor and as much as the drive train as I can. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on how to do this. I'm looking to go off-road with my build and deffinatly 4wd and the ability to upgrade is a must...something along the lines of the HPI MT2 (or anything similar) but in a kit form where I can just buy what I cant build. Thanks, any information would be great.

IMO look at the various RC's, and download a manual from the makers website. The manuals have blown up diagrams with part #'s. A kit will have all the parts (-electronics and motor usually) so that would defeat you wanting to build parts.
A MT2 won't benedit much from metal parts outside its steering knuckels
It also depends on how much you want to spend. You might want to look at the Jammin .5 crt in all truth its a pretty low priced, solid RC, and has some parts that would definitely benefit from metal ones being made.
Or if electric would be better there is a truck called the Monster XX at target for $99 that is a knockoff of a tamiya DF-02 that is pretty decent and has a fair bit that metal parts could be made for it.(only thing is the monster XX radio SUCKS but a $30 2.4ghz flysky radio from hobbypartz.com will fix it good) It could use a metal shock towers, steering knuckles, out drives, axles, rear uprights, steering linkage, etc... (and if you really want a challenge make the chassis outta metal )

I actually had to switch back to the two shoe setup because I lost a pin on the flywheel. If you use the savage flywheel you need to use the spacer to puse the flywheel forward or the CB wont line up with the spur gear. Im still running two aluminum shoes though.

Thanks for the info. I mainly want to build a motor and some of the drive train but I only have a semester of metal shop and its high school, although its metal 3 (3rd year) I want to build what I can and buy what I cant build. But I'm looking to go gas for sure but I'll figure something out. Maybe I'll just buy a kit and replace/build, I'm not too sure yet. I dont have a large budget, maybe $400 or so but my main thing is finding a rolling chassis to put a motor in. I'm also looking to go pretty big too (damn go big or go home mentality), so far I found diagrams for a 28cc motor which I'm thinking about doing, not too sure about anyting yet.

28cc is going to be a 1/5th scale.
Your shop has the equipment to make a block, crankshaft and piston?
I would think for the time and money it would be cheaper to buy an engine.

Yeah, I'm not too sure on what I want to do. I was planning on going 28cc only because its a huge motor for a car and I really like the 1/5 scale. But I might go with something else. But I mainly want to  build the engine, we have just about everything I think I would need to build the motor. 2 Vertical milling machines, 2 lathes, drill presses, forge, and plenty more. I think I'd be able to build it no problem because someone else built a small 2-stroke motor in the past. I still dont know what to do exactly even about a chassis to start with not to mention what I'm going to build.

Been doing some bashing with my new MT2. Motor is running sweet as, still a touch rich though. I must say this is one tuff truck!!!! Had a little accident today where the truck cartwheeled about 7 or 8 times at close to 60KPH and it didn't break a thing. Just some scratches on the lid. Love it...
