I just ordered myself a OS. 18 CV-RX motor and picked up a THS pipe from my shop. The motor will be tomorrow or Thursday. Can't wait to get it in and start breaking it in.

Do I need different motor mounts for the OS?

I will post some pics in a few days.

You need a two piece engine mount. The mount for the G3.0 wont fit it and the T-15 mounted directly to the chassis.

Yes that will work. Or you can get the redcat racing one. Its the same mount for a fraction of the price.

Got my OS motor in the mail today. I forgot that I needed to buy a new motor mount and pilot shaft.

The 2 shops by me dont have them in stock and they are on back order on Tower []

Guess I have to find them somewhere else and wait a few days.

Well I took my MT2 to the local race track today. Had alot of fun despite spending most the time fliping my car back onto its wheels LOL . Only managed about 5 laps without crashing out of about 40 odd laps.

I broke the reak lower control arm mount on the right side, just elongated the attachment/pivot point. Which gave a huge amount of toe in under power. Was thinking off upgrading that part to a GPM Aluminium part, or will that just cause the control arm to break next time? Also the brakes seem to fade pretty bad after a while, I did adjust them a little but it didn't seem to help much. Is there a good brake upgrade out there?

I have some work to do on the suspension as it seemed very soft and had alot of oversteer into corners, then alot of understeer through the corner and more oversteer on the way out. Could well be the tires arn't right for the track either.

I dont recommend aluminum arms. They dont flex like the plastic does and that will transfer the stress to something else that could be more expensive to replace.
The stock tires are good on pavement but they are terrible on dirt. The truck just slides around. If you are running on a track alot try to get some pin type tires.
For the breaks you can do the ofna throttle mod and get a stronger servo. That will definitely improve stopping.

guys

im in need of help. was out bashing my 18SS and manged the thread the heat sink

ive looked into getting a new HPI one but they appear to be discontinued and very pricey.

ive seen cheaper ones on ebay made by nova or something but wary of the quality

what are my options ??? the engine was still running very strong, its a shame the heat sink has failed. will the heat sink from another hpi engine fit ??

other option i guess is to upgrade to a os 18 but are parts readily available seeing as im based in the uk

the weather over here is getting wet now and the mt2 is perfect for running and bashing on wet dirt tracks

What do you mean you thread the heat sink?
The nova heads are very good. Excellent quality and will lower engine temps too. But it depends how much life you have left in the engine. It might be a better investment to just put the money towards the OS.

I found the arms didn't break on me. Instead it broke the pin that held the arm on to the chassis, and the arm got pushed into the read diff case and cracked it. Pretty much a 2 min $5 replacement job that would have been if the arm just broke became a $15 25 min job on replacing the lower bulkhead, diff case, and arm...

cheers for the reply keith

i mean when i screwed in the plug it must of been at a angle and now it just screws and screws and wont go tight as its meant to go

there is plenty of life in the engine yet and im not bored of the speed. if i go os is the the TZ i shall be looking at ??

decisions decisions

so the nova heat sinks will be a good replacement until i have enough to buy a os.... will i need new gaskets. ive never had the heat sink off

I need some help guys.

I picked up a OS .18 CV-RX (#11880).

I tried to install it today and the motor shaft is too short. Did I get the wrong motor?

Which OS motor fits the MT2? Can I replace the crankshaft with a longer one?

I got that pilot shaft. I also got the HPI purple motor mounts. I had an extra RS4 flywheel around, so I tried using that also, still no luck.

It comes closest with the RS4 flywheel, but then the flywheel touches the brake disc.

Any ideas of what I need to do?

I just got it all together. I had to add a few washers behind the collet to make the flywheel clear the brake disc.

My gear mesh seems a little tight and it grinds when I roll the chassis.

Going to the shop now to see if they can help me.

Got it all installed properly now. I set my gear mesh right and there is no more grinding, it rolls smooth now.

I started it up just for a second, I wanted to hear how it sounded hahaha!

It's been raining here all day and break-in will have to wait for another day.

Taking pics now, will post them later!!

keith

ive just taken the heat sink off and it appears my heat sink does not have the under sink. ive also checked the manual quickly and there is no reference to a under head in the construction of the engine

and your right the glow plug just turns and turns without going tight. There is bit of metal on the piston. gonna gve the engine a full strip down to assess if there is any damage and to clean out any metal shards

the nova head may look like a quick fix for $30

OS engine maybe a good upgrade but it appears its gonna be hard to get parts for

could someone help with exactly whats needed so i can order it all at once to fit a 18SS+

Can you post a picture of your engine?
You will need a two piece engine mount and a pilot shaft depending on which version of the OS you get.

I used the two piece HPI motor mounts (#86045) and the pilot shaft (#A805) for my install. I have the OS .18 CV-RX 11J rotary carb (#11880).

I am off to work, but I will definitely post pics tonight.

Sorry, I didn't know who your post was directed to. I thought id post what I used on my install in case someone else needed the info.

+1 on the Nova head. I have had a few in the past and they were great. I might get one soon for either my Jato, RS4 or MT2.
