Default anyone converted a slash to nitro?

I know there is a nitro version (4wd slayer), but has anyone converted or considered converting an electric traxxas slash to nitro? I'm a big RWD stadium truck fan, and I am not a fan of electric.

The first thing that will come to most peoples mind is that this truck has a plastic platform, so a hot nitro engine won't do well. I was thinking I could replace the last ~1/3 of the chassis with metal...all the way back to the transmission. It could easily be tied into the remaining plastic chassis. I am pretty good with metal, and I enjoy being creative and trying strange (sometimes rediculous) things, so I am seriously thinking about trying this.

Next thing would be to put a traxxas nitro tranny on it (from nitro sport, rustler, stampede, all the same parts). The slash shares many rear end parts from traxxas nitro vehicles (hex hubs, A-arms, stub axles, axles, yokes), so a roller will come with many of the necessary parts. I already have a couple trannies from traxxas nitro vehicles (sport, stampede).

Mounting the gas tank would be very simple. I would put receiver batteries towards the front, the place that traxxas should have put them in most of their nitro vehicles. Engine mounts would be very easy to make. Engine choice: OS 18CVR. I think it's a very good motor for a 1/10th scale stadium truck. More than enough power.

thoughts?

It would be ALMOST impossible but not 100% impossible if that makes sense.

ya that would be a ton of work and money, plus who knows for how long all your jimmy rigs would hould, but if you got the time and money go ahead.

Either I would try converting a slayer's chassis or get some simple flat aluminum chassis off ebay (like a MT2 or something simple), cut, and modify it from that to fit to traxxas's specs for wheel base.

I doubt 1/3rd metal would be enough seeing the whole chassis acts as a heatsink on nitro but I might be wrong. But that is just my idea.

BTW the MT2 bottom plate I only recommended due to what the the integy slash's aluminum plate looks like [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXCA1&P=Z]link to integy chassis[/link]

Actually, there are several nitro vehicles where only the back half of the chassis is metal, two traxxas vehicles come to mind that fit into that category: nitro sport, stampede. I plan on running the metal up past the engine and ending at the gas tank, a little less than half way up the chassis from the rear.

It may be a little work, but not a whole lot of money. Most of the rear end parts from the slash can be used with the replacement tranny. I already have the tranny and engine, probably the most expensive part of this conversion if one started with nothing. I would need some 7075 aluminum plate for the chassis and then it's fabricating time. I don't see this as an expensive job at all. Making engine mounts would be a breeze. I may need to pick up some miscellaneous parts for the rear (shock tower, suspension arm mounts, etc), but those are cheap parts.

My work doesn't involve "jimmy rigs", so I wouldn't have to worry about anything not holding

I agree that it will be a little tricky, but almost impossible? I have to disagree with that. I don't think a job like this is anywhere near the point of impossible. Personally, on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being easy, 10 being impossible), I would rate it a 5

I'm keeping my eye on ebay for a slash roller. Once I get it I'm trying this....not only am I going to try it, I'm going to do it and make it work well.

thanks for all the comments everyone

the one thing im seeing is the slash has its rear shock tower in front of the trans, where the stamp has it behind- i think it might be a rear half stamp front half slash with some fanagaling in between. I like the idea......

I noticed that too. My plan is to replace the slash tranny/shock tower with a nitro stampede/rustler tranny with corresponding shock tower. I will fabricate my rear chassis plate to match that of the rear chassis of the traxxas 1/10th scale nitro vehicles, most likely a very simple task.

That's exactly what it will be when I'm finished.

I just need to find a damn slash roller.

i think with the nitro stamp trans, mounted to the rear of the slash chassis, with the motor mounted to the gray center chassis would work- i donno how well it would handle, cuz the COG would be really high from the motor,...... maybe if the motor was laid down on its side....... hmmmm..

Dittch, you can't be serious? I guess the next thing out of your mouth will be..."Hey guys, I would like to make Chicken salad out of Chicken S***. What do you think?" [:'(]
Ok seriously, sounds like a neat idea; however, I've seen some of your "modifications" online....cough cough. Excuse me, I just threw up in my mouth.

You always seem to find my threads and post a bunch of crap. I don't know what kind of modifications of mine you've seen because I don't have anything posted online other than that reinforced RC car crashing into a television. I didn't even show the modifications in that video, just showed it driving away undamaged after destroying the television. Lets see you build a car that can handle that.

Speaking of modifications, lets talk about that nitro sport that you have. If I hadn't of seen it on youtube I wouldn't believe it. A nitro sport with an OS VSpec II Worlds Edition mounted to it. It was completely undrivable even with your custom gearing (36T clutchbell if I remember correctly).

My idea actually makes sense and is not only very possible, it will be functional. Yours, on the other hand, was the stupidest idea I've ever seen. Who installs a $500+ racing engine in a nitro sport? It was completely undrivable!

I just got off of priceline.com, bought a bus ticket and am heading your way. I just need your address so I know where to bring my caserole with ass-whipped dittch on the side.

Yeah, I'll look out for you, I'll keep an eye out for the punk wearing pink slippers and a raggedy robe, riding in the barbie power wheel being towed by the nitro sport with OS VSpec. Be sure to bring about 15 gallons of nitro fuel, that should get you up here.....you may have to do a piston/sleeve change along the way as well so bring a set of those too.

Are you going to do it like that crazy NASA astronaut did it a couple years ago?....wearing a diaper so you can load your pants instead of making restroom stops?
