Judging Question

Wow... Just... Wow...
Well, Brandon, I hope you didn't take offense at my comment that you are a hard judge, I did state that I preferred it because I feel the scores are more honest. Makes me feel like I really did something when I get a 9.5 or a 10 from you because I know I earned it (and I have done that a couple of times).
Tuan, I hope all this hasn't soured you on pattern. You did make a good point that you weren't the one who named the contest or the CD or the judges. Also, please understand that Dick's comment regarding the large negative K factors for Louisiana pilots was meant in good fun, and that is certainly the way I took it. Heck, I started it. I guess I must be really good, though, because even with the negative K factors I've managed to take a few trophies home from Texas.

. . .<snip>. . . !! you are a racist that why you had that idea in your mind. How about 1K instead of 4k factor for being Asian or Hispanic or Black or White, I bet you $100 Dollars you will discriminate to any one if they tell you they are coming from MILWAUKEE...!! . . .<snip>. . .

Wow, the <u>Race Card</u> . . . . You can tell a guy has hit the bottom of the barrel for excuses when he has to pull THATone out of his back pocket.
.
Looks to me like you need to take the rest of the season off and get your head straight, Tuan . . . if that's your real attitude about pattern then I don't know who's going to welcome you to their contest in the future.
.
At no point ANYWHEREin this thread has ANYONE said that race has anything to do with you or anyone's flying ability, or their ability to score a flight objectively. I know that the Race Card has been made a popular excuse by those in society who wish to deflect their own personal faults and prejudices onto others, but you have NO right to come on here and publicy accuse ANYONE of racism while not providing ANY proof whatsoever except your own made-up BS.
.
And on top of THAT, your adolescent insults using a man's name just really put you in a bad light, right from your first sentence.
.
But you weren't finished yet!!! . . .And THEN you got me really laughing. .
.
. .<snip>. . as an educated man and a knowledge person . .<snip>. . .
.
Here's a Pro Tip for ya. . .
.
If you're going to insult, accuse, or denigrate someone in a public forum, at least make sure your post sounds like you really ARE educated and fluent somewhat in the English language (yeah, I know - RACIST!!!). At first I thought it was just one typo, but then I re-read your post a couple times and it sounds like it was written by a teenager in their mother's basement.
.
Normally I wouldn't point something like that out to a guy, but you really have set yourself up for an excessive amount of criticism on many, many subjects here.
.
I wish you the best of luck finding a different hobby where your cries of racism will be welcomed.
.

I'm sorry my wrong rudder caused all this turmoil.... If there was this much angst at all pattern meets, pattern would be dead in a season. I hope we pull in our horns a little and remember that we are just flying toy airplanes. Its supposed to be fun.
Take it light,
RC

As a new person to pattern, I've had a blast. However it is a competition, and for some people it brings out the heat. Ireally haven't learned anything in this thread after Strat's question was answered. The rest just confirms that people are people.
All Iknow is that Ican't wait for the Weak Signals Contest!!! I'll bring an extra half roll for you Rick!

180/15 = 12 points downgrade...... you could get a zero so don't do that. Just eat the cinnamon roll will get you more points. I am not sure about nitro smell anymore. The last two contest the glow power was below 20%. Well, still you can smell it but not sure for how long. Let's keep having fun in the next contests.

You may call me anything if it makes you feel better!
My guess is that between Monday June 13 [date of your post] and Sunday June 5 [last round Jetero] you did not attend any other contest. That said, the fact you would make public comments about ANY CD or Judges credibility, regardless of what contest it was, is ethically wrong and uncalled for. I will be at the Georgetown contest this weekend should you like to discus my "Racism!" My only regret in all of this is that it was not my place to publicly suggest you consider not attending the Jetero contest next year. Had you contacted me privately to begin with we would not be having this discussion now.

Cameron was obviously the best pilot in FAI down here, and the jason whoever guy was just a hack that we liked because he paid us so well. In skittles no less. I like skittles. It was obvious that Cameron was outflying that scmuck in every outing by at least 5-6 points per manuever, but he didn't pay the skittle fee. Us corrupt peeps gotta have them skittles ya know.
And of course, you were EASILY The best masters pilot ever to fly a plane. No matter that a six sided loop actually was supposed to have SIDES, it should have been a 10. But hey, you weren't flying the right plane so you know....instant 5 point downgrade because of that. Not because you didn't finish a contest in the last 6 years and always left on Saturday screaming about how those evil Black Magic guys (who were hardly ever in the chair but who cares about details) screwed you and the whole thing was decided during a secret meeting on Friday.....in the underground volcanic lair.
Yes, I so loved all of the imaginary power, fixing contests and ruling the toy airplane world with a twisted iron fist. It was diabolically fiendish I tell you!!!! It's what made my day go smoothly. Wake up, drink a monster, and dial the evil bat phone to decide who got screwed the next weekend. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAAAA!!!!! !
Ok........sarcasm aside.
You and Cameron got beat because you got outflown. Period. End of discussion. You are (were) your own worst enemies. You can't watch a football game without thinking those guys in the huddle are plotting against you. Because of that crap attitude, you nut up in front of a judge and refuse to see your OWN mistakes. Think we all haven't questioned a bad score before? The difference is, other people don't run home in a huff or get loud and obnoxious over it. They do something called "practice" and hopefully, improve. They don't continually point fingers and make INSANE accusations.
News flash: nobody cares whether or not Cameron sold his sh*t anymore than they care that I sold mine. Pattern goes on. Without me, him, OR you. Sorry to be so blunt, but it's the cold hard truth. There are no schemes, no backroom meetings, no secret handshakes, just people...with ALL of thier faults doing (usually) the best they can. I fail to recall anyone saying "yay I get to judge! I am gonna stick it to _____ this time wheeeee!"
Anyway, it's crap like THIS that made me sell out and do something else. Constant drama. A person can only justify a war over toy planes for just so long until it ain't worth it.
It ain't worth it.

Wow, I was thinking about getting in to pattern flying and leaning towards buying one soon but ...................
Tuan may have been angry when he posted that statement about the contest not being fair but if he believes it, he believes it.
But Wow, the reponses by the person who put on the event is just Wow. I'm sure he is an example and not the rule how organizers treat their contestants.

Don.... US Judge to the World Championships several times, so far.... what can you say there? As far as Louisiana boys losing in Texas... well, I've lost many a contest in Texas, and always beat the Texas boys in Muncie. Go figure. Don and I have discussed this, but here is the funny thing.... Texas judges grade out more fairly and unbiased than any group in Muncie. I prefer to have D6 judges in Muncie. It is a tough and demanding District, and that works for me at the Nationals, I've gotten several trophies there. I do know Tuan, also, and have enjoyed every contest we flew in together, and enjoyed his company. He has always been correct and friendly. Hang in there, Tuan. In my opinion, you are definitely one of the best Advanced pilots in D6. D6 has a large Advanced contingent, with a high level of proficiency for the class. All this being said, guys, we have ALL been in the heat of battle, and done our best; only to come up shorter than we felt we might have. And whether we went on RCU with the feelings, or not, we have all expressed these feelings to someone. Anybody that hasn't, has never put out 100% effort. For the rest of us that have laid it all out there on the runway, we tend to get a touch emotional from time to time. I respect that in a competitor. Give Tuan a break, he's a competitor that put out everything he had and was disappointed. Letting one of our comrades vent frustration from time to time is what we should do. Baiting each other into further commentary is not good. Learning to deal with the frustration is PART of advancing through the ranks of pattern. Can I get a witness here? Hopefully, as we move up through the ranks, we gain experience; which helps us deal with accepting it when we do not see things the same way that the judges do. And let's be honest, sometimes there are regional differences (not bias, differences) in the way we see things. Don Ramsey still doesn't agree with my snaps, but says "They are growing on me!"
Next time, Brandon, buddy, pal; leave me out of your food fight!

Hi all,
My name is Carlos and I recently started flying Pattern at the Sportsman level here in California. I just want to say that I have found it a gratifying learning experience, regardless of the ups and downs. I know it is hard to get the manuevers and sequences correctly, but it takes much patience, practice, sweat, good coaching, and above all attitude! When I go up to the judges, I tell them that I am there to enjoy and have fun. At the end of my sequence, I get my score sheets and listen to their input, be it positive or negative. I still appreciate it and take in what I can learn. Yeah, I still get he shaky knees, the heart thumping and the adrenaline rush. Yeah, I also know that I mess up on my sequence, but I do not pout on the scores because I know I will get better. Sportmanship is part of competition in my opinion; getting to know other people, commaderie, improving skills and gaining discipline while being respectful to others under competition situations. If you cannot take the pressure then do not show up, stay at home. Sorry, sore losers or cheating winners have no place in fair competition whichever the sport/hobby may be.
Just my 2 cents.

Ok guys, what's been going on in this thread is absolutely bogus and it's going to stop right here and right now. This thread was asking about how a certain situation would be scored. This thread is not about dragging up past issues from a certain contest. Apparently some people can't follow the RCU rules about staying on topic. I have cleaned up this thread and have removed all the garbage that should have never been posted here in the first place.
For all those involved in this garbage going on in this thread, drop it. Plain and simple. I don't want to see it again. Period. If you can add to the topic raised by the OP then by all means join in the discussion here, however if you can't add to that discussion then I suggest you refrain from entering the discussion.

The rule is simple. If 80% of the maneuver is out, there is an 8 point downgrade plus downgrades for the manuever itself.

Matt, to set the record straight, you and Jon can't both be right. So, based on each of your interpretations, who is correct? I stand to be corrected but, I think this is the third opinion I've read about in this thread and still don't feel I understand which one is correct! Unfortunately, I don't have a current copy of the rules to read at this time. Thanks, Everette

Tim, thanks one more time. I think at this point I will have to rely on my own understanding because there is just too much diversity of opinion and/or interpretation applied to what I originally thought to be a simple downgrade. I still feel this is a very important area that needs to be addressed so that every judge is on the same page. Hope to fly with you later this year___Everette
