Unbelieveable you guys this is going to be a contest we talk about for years to come. I have had emails from guys that are rearranging family vacations and much more. Our good buddy Jon B. has been a huge help with the shirts and I can't wait for you guys to see them. Don A. when you ordered the shirts I thought you were in for sure. I talked to Chris and since he seems to have a legite excuse we have let him off the hook but you being the responsible parent we all exspect you here.
This deal needs everyone to be successful. Our club is working around the clock to make this far more then just a contest. Our hobbyshop has ordered a bunch of Gee Bee's to have on hand and is offering them at a smokin $155.00 each. If you want us to put one aside let me know so we can order some more.
I will bet if we add up the pattern years of experience that will be at this event the number will be staggering. I know between just a few guys its over 250 years total. Tomorrow alone we will have 8 guys in to practice. 4 are for sportsman. Richard V is test flying tomorrow and Rusty Van Baron is not far behind.
Jim Kimbro has dug deep into the rafters and has already flown the original Silloutte. He and Matt will be down Fri. Sat and Sun to practice. I see from Riverside Tony is back in form in FAI as well as Jerry, Jon, Bill W. and many others in Masters. There are just to many names to remember but my email is filling up daily.
I don't know what else to say but CMON guys lets do it. Were ready for ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am seriously thinking this may turn into an event that will be here for many years to come.
................Maybe we should call this the Bear Mountain Spring Nationals or something to that affect in the future.

Hey Chip - sorry I won't be able to make it - I am in Washington DC on Vacation - it looks like it will be a great time. Please send back an XL T-shirt with someone coming to my Hemet contest - I'm good for it. Have a great time and be careful out there.

Sorry to hear that I will send a shirt with Jarvis is that will work.
Since we do not have a way to sign up for Old School Masters I will list the guys I know of and get the info to Mike. As of now we have the following confirmed.
Tony F. - Phoenix 7
Richard Verano - Bridi Escape
Jim Kimbro - Silloutte (Jim brought it down today and it still looks and fly's great)
Rusty Van Buren - Super Ceptor
Jon Carter - Phoenix 7
Matt Kimbro - Mirage or Silloutte
Chip Hyde - Phoenix 8
I spoke with Gordon tonight and everything is all set as far as the score sheets go. Please have a copy of the pattern you are planning on flying ready to give to Mike Greer on Friday mid day. We do not want to have to wait until sat morning to try and get everything in the computer. The total K for all 12 manuevers cannot exceed 45. Take off and landing do not count as part of the 12.
Old School is going to start and finish the contest flying first off Sat. Morning, flying from both lines. As soon as your first flight is finished fuel up and head to the other line. I think we can get both rounds done with an hour and move right into Sportsman and intermidiate. We are going to try for a 3rd round Sat. and then 2 more Sunday afternoon for a total of 5 rounds counting the best 3. The scores will be raw unnormalized to decide the winner. Each pilot will call out the next manuever for the judges as well as Starting or Commencing Now (or something similiar) and then Complete. From what I have seen so far you guys will get quite a show. High speed passes and gear shot landings are back lol. We also need some guys that were around back then that are not flying in Old School to Judge. If interested PM me I think this can really be a lot fun all the way around. If you don't PM I still know who you are lol
As for the rumor that Joe Bridi might make it out I am here to tell that is no rumor. I spoke with Joe for a good 15 to 20 minutes today and he sounded incredible. I have a feeling there might might be a few planes with a signature on them before this is over, and keep in mind he will only be here for Sat. (Now for My Story about meeting Joe) I have known and admired Joe ever since I can remember. As a matter of fact my first real memory of flying with anyone but my dad came in 1975 at the El Centro funfly. My dad and I went over since it was only an hour from Yuma and we were blown away that Joe had come out for this event. Anyway since my dad would not let me solo until I was 5 someone had to hold the master box always keeping the button pushed. Since Joe flew single stick as well he offered to give my dad a break. I remember the entire flight with my Lanier comet. I flew while Joe knelt next to me and if I am not mistaken we did a ton of touch and goes as they were what I enjoyed the most. That was 36 years ago last month. In some ways it seems like forever and in others just yesterday. For the longest time after that all I could think about was getting my first Dirty Birdy which arrived just in time for my 5th birthday.
Please keep going with the pre registrations this really helps. I just recieved a text from Mike C letting me know that the San Diego boys are coming in force. At this moment Mike Eberly, Pedro, Steve Dente, and Chris Walker are in for sure. Mike is working on Steve Neu as well since he has a nice and shiny Passport that he flies all the time it only seems fitting.
Kyle Dahl is going to fly Intermidiate as well do the heli demos. My Turbine waver didn't make it in yet and even though I am sure we will get it sorted out next week Kyle and I are going to work up a few minute Heli Plane Demo as a back up. If we have overlooked anything don't hesitate to point it out. The field is in great condition as far as the runway and the grass just keeps getting greener.

Chip, please sign me up for a couple of T-shirts (XL). Also, I can judge the Original "Old School" Masters Pattern as I did fly it in 88/89, unfortunately I don"t have an EU-1A to fly yet! Thanks for putting this event together, it'll be great to have a big contest on the Left Coast again!

I hope this dosen't step on any toes, If it does let me know and I will gladly edit and remove. I have a framed up 33% Laser that I am selling to help fund our honeymoon. If there is any interest Iwill bring it along if not then I will leave it behind. I would just hate to drag it down there and subject it to the miles should there be no interest.

Jerry I got your shirt order in and look forward to seeing everone on fri. More people keep signing up that are not on the list I put up the other day. We are in high gear now and everything is coming together. I had my week all planned and actually had about 7 spare minutes left over until yestterday. Bobby Baker a long time modeler had told me that he had Jerry Boyces Circus Circus Patricia and that he might bring it out. Well yesterday was the day and it flew really nice. Of course it had some hanger rash but it was all in all not to bad. As we were taking off he reminded to extend the antenna so I thought I better ask what else was in the plane. He said he had updated it and it now has all 148,s except the two goldberg retract servos. lol Needless to say I was a little nervous flying this rocket and decided to bring it in.
We took the wing off and sure enough just as he said. It is so amazing to me what we used to do 35 years ago. Bobby asked if I would like to fly it and I said yes but only if he would call for me in which he agreed. Anyhow I brought it home swapped out the servos and rec. and started color matching to 35 year old KnB. Check it out its ready for clear this afternoon.
I think it will bring back memories it certainly did the first time I saw it.

Hope everyone who can make it will come out for this event. Chip has really put something special together that I think is going to be remembered for quite some time.
If you haven't registered yet, please do so. And if you're going to fly Classic, get the word to Chip so he and Mike Greear can get everything ready. If you're going to race Gee Bees, drop me an email at [email protected] and let me know what day you'll be there.
I thought I'd give a run-down on what I am planning for the Gee Bee racing. We are going to race on Friday starting around 5:00 and also on Saturday after the pattern flying is done. The course is about 200 feet long and we will fly 8 to 10 laps. Right now the plan is to fly three in each heat but if we get a lot of entrants we will do 4 in a heat. I dentification of the models will be with some black tape stripes put on the top of the right wing. Each heat will have a model with no tape, one with one stripe and one with two stripes. If flying four one model will have two stripes on the right wing and one on the left. The course is a two-pylon course that will be on the north edge of the runway. Pilots will be to the south at the center of the course. The race will start from a standing still take-off, no pushing by the callers. There will be one official who will start the race, count the laps and end the race. That official will call out the placings. There will be a cut-judge on each pylon. They will call out cuts. For instance, "Cut on one stripe" or "Cut on no stripe". If you cut once you have to fly an extra lap. A second cut you are DQ'd. To be clear, you don't have to fly around the pylons, but you have to fly past them.
Winning a heat will get you 3 or 4 points, depending on how many we race in a heat. Second, one less point, third one less point and 4th would be one point. If you DQ you receive a zero. The top racers from Friday and Saturday will race in the Gold heats on Sunday. I'm going to try to get everyone as much racing as possible but we will be on a tight schedule. The main goal is to have a blast! This should really be a lot of fun.
BTW, I'd have a couple of extra batteries available as the heats may come pretty quickly. I'll have a few extras but I suggest everyone get one or two more.
Can't wait for this to begin!

Seriously trying to clear my schedule for the weekend! So excited to be back into this hobby, after a long 10 year or so break. I am thinking about picking up a Gee Bee just to be able to race this weekend!!

I'd be more than happy to help out with some pics as well...
