Midwest Esquire (single channel, rudder-only model)

Fox .15 RC

MRC relayless single channel transistor receiver

Babcock escapement on rudder

Citizenship CTX single channel 3-tube transmitter

Trexler balloon wheels

It was flown in "pattern" and won first place in the rudder-only class at the United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) contest at Misawa Air Base in Japan. It was kind of like a Nationals for model builders from bases all over the Pacific and all types of control line and free flight models were flown. Radio control was new at the 1962 PACAF meet but I didn't know that until after the next PACAF contest where Model Airplane News magazine printed the names of the winners of that later meet as being participants in the first ever PACAF radio control meet. Well, they were wrong and I have the 1962 plaque to prove that theirs was not the first PACAF radio control contest.

The "pattern" was simple then because rudder was the only control surface that the model had but some of the maneuvers were spins, loops, rolls, figure eights and spot landings.

The pictures show the Esquire and the "modern" old-time equipment. The finish on the plaque was ruined by the floodwaters of another hurricane in New Orleans, hurricane Betsy in 1965.

Rocketman, and gents

I am “retired†pattern flyer but still have a pattern plane.
Taurus, scratch.

Engine: MVVS or OS Max 61 FX. (one spare)
Wingspan: 70â€
Weight: 8,8 lb
Brakes on the main wheels
Covering: Silk and dope
Battery: one pack for radio equipment, on pack for electronics
Radio :Multiplex transmitter/receiver, Graupner servo’s
Electronics: airspeed controller (cruise control), data logger, engine temp measurement, fluel level measurement, landing light, fuel tank pressure controller, fuel controller (like Cline), calculating rudder mixer (no differential).

When flying with active cruise control the trottle stick is speed setpoint stick.

Pictures are made without controllers, exhaust and pitot tube.

I am rebuilding after maintenance and painting the Taurus in original Top Flite scheme 1962.
The name "Taurus" picture 1 and 2 is the reconstruction of the characters Ed Kazmirski did have on his Top Flite Taurus during promotion 1962/1963.
Plane is 5 years old, about 350 flights.

Third picture before maintenance a few years ago.

Quality ensurance cat: Hanna

Taurus Flyer,
Many years ago I had the opportunity to fly a Taurus that belonged to someone else and I was impressed at how big and beautiful it looked and how smoothly it flew. It was a pleasure to fly it.
Your scratch built Taurus is certainly one fully equipped flying machine and shows that you enjoy the vast amount ofexperimentation that our hobby permits. Continue to enjoy your Taurus.

I never owned a Taurus but way way back I did build and fly the Ed Kazmirski Tauri which was a shoulder wing trainer for multi channel radios. I flew it with a Kraft Ecktronics six channel reed type radio system andthe engine wasa Fox .35 Rocket red head with a Johnson carburetor epoxied on it's venturie. That Tauri was another great flying Kazmirski airplane.

I will do Rocketman, I will keep the past as long as possible in my hands, and continue the experimentation of Ed Kazmirski with the tools I have these days.
I found the Taurus a very good ship for my experiments but also a plane to fly under nearly any weather condition with great pleasure.
Orion, Taurus, Tauri. Ed did show us how to design airplanes.
Some pictures from my "Sport" Orion.

Here is one picture of my Scorpion. Has made a lot of small improvement since the maiden flight in beginning of may. Mostly the improvement has been made to save weight. It flies great and hopefully it will last for a long time.

Hi Mike

Electric motor is Plettenberg, propeller is 20x15. Weight is 5010 g with lipo 5350 mah.
This week end, Dominique tested lipo 4600 in 20C which weight 1110 g en 2x5S http://www.modelpascher.com/catalog/...roducts_id=968
In this configuration Littletwo weights 4920 g.
Fuse is made in two parts to facilitate shipping and mounting. Wings are glued on the front part.

Thanks Claude I love to see new idea's like this. Just a suggestion on the weight is to use the YGE 80 Amp controller. It weighs around 70 grams. The smaller lipo's are OK but tough to use in a heavy wind on the F sequence in competition.
I really like the quick assembly on the Bi plane. It takes a lot of the hassle out. Thanks for the info, Mike

My new (well, 2nd hand then!) ZN-Line Twister with a Pletty running in the spinner. It was originally setup for a Hacker but I decided to move to an outrunner.
