The Gold kit Oxalys looks really good, but how do you guys feel about cutting cooling vents etc. into the finished fuselage and how does the cockpit canopy fit onto an already finished surface. I understand the finish is not paint and wondered if there is likely to be any damage to the edges of the film when the vents are cut.

i understand the finish is gel coat sprayed in the mould but im not sure if its kevlar cloth or diffrent, if its kevlar i presure it will cut ok without damage to the paint but i think it will leave a furry edge like u get when cutting kevlar, i simple way to sort that is to put super glue on it as we know but i dont like the idea of having to pour super glue onto a brand new finished model, because sods law ur gonna get it on the paint/gel and its going to be a nightmere to get off without marking the gel.
but like u say its a very nicly made bit of kit, next on my list i think because i dont have time to build anymore.[

but obviously i think id go for the unpainted model and give it the aeropaint treatment!

Hi
To sandpaper kevlar I use thin abrasive sheet and water. It's very easy.
I think there is no problem to make vents or hole. I did them easily in kit Cocaine and Rhapsody painted in molds.

Looking at the TS Composite website the Oxalys is finished in "Ultra Thin Stickers Sistem. TS F.C.T use a ultra-thin sticker film to obtain the colour pattern. This system give to the aircraft exellent results in lightness and adhesion." This doesn't sound like its painted in the mould? Can anybody who has seen the model comment on the finish?
Any comments on finishing the canopy on a painted model?

The one we got in our hands is painted but NOT in the mold. The job is great.
The fuse is made by Fiber cloth and reinforced with carbon cloth from nose till the end of the wing support. (trailing edge).
Can't wait to recieve the rest 2 Oxalys next week.

i think you could get a very close weight even if u paint it urself, the oxalys i did for stuart weighed about 36grams i think from the top of my head, so even if you go to town on it i dont think youd be putting more than 100g at the very most.
and as for my zn oxalys... yes i did take it on sunday, test flew it on saturday and i was very impressed, just needs trimming and setting up properly then ill be ready to roll[8D]

Nope... just can't make it out from the small pics.
I do remember seeing a picture of his plane with the very think TE on the wing and somebody mentioned they where 8+mm or so think instead of the normal 2 or 3mm?
Said it smoothed out the feel around the neutral position...and desensitised the surfaces to small inputs.
Makes a lot of sense.

Yesterday I discussed with Christophe Paysant le Roux on sélection Team France Contest.
The fuse he uses was made by Flying Star (now TS Composite) and his wing is made of foam and recovered with paper "kraft" (no balsa sheet).
To Onyx140 : Geometry of the wing made by TS Composite is the same geometry as his wing made of foam and paper, he used in the differents contest like WC 2005 ...
The geometry is different between the wing of kit ZNline.
CPLR Wing lenght is more 1 cm in the middle and the "fléche arriere" is more little. At end of wing, distance between at the arriere of wing and horizontal line is more little.
To Mach1 : CPLR confirm that now, plane's TS Composite is painted. Flying Star tested to do finition with film but it was not efficient.

They certainly appear thinner than the rumoured 8mm or so.
Obviously that would be 8mm at the root and tapering down accordingly.
Does he have thicker than normal TE's on "his" wing or is that the standard Oxalys, ZN type, thickness?

Did not have time for too much looking.

I got mine (Gold kit) also. Packing is professional. Immediately I took it to my buddy's place cause he's building it for me. My buddy is the local importer of Austral XXt so he has quite a few Austral kits laying around. We weight the wing of the Oxalys and it was about 940g, but the Austral is only 850g, and the Oxalys wing is a tad shorter than the Austral. The paint job on the Oxalys is good, but not flawless. I could notice a few minor humps and and uneven on the surface, but nothing bigger than the size of a nickel. The Austral have the mold line on the middle of the body, while the Oxalys have none, so that's one very good point. However, the inside of the Oxalys is very dirty...quite a few dust and many water marks with traces of fiberdusts... TS should wipe clean the inside before shipping cause cleaniness counts as first impression... The carbon parts are molded top quality, one of the best we've seen.
I hope my buddy could finish my Oxalys ASAP so we could compare the flying characteristics of the Oxalys and the Austral XX.
Papaone: Could you ask CPLR about his throw rate on all control surface?

Well the rumours where correct.
8mm is quite considerable, specially at the tip!
I would think it must make a measureable difference compared to a similar wing with a thinner TE.
Thats why I'm intersted in comparing it to the TS moulded composite wing.
How thick are their TE's?

From what I can figure out the TE on oxalys evo are back to thin...why would they change ? is CPLR going back thin? if not then I would be very disappointed with both CPLR and Plane manufacturer, but maybe I am wrong , hard to tell from the pic but they certainly look thin

The leading edge of the model I have is thinner then the ZN Model.
After calculating all parts weight according to my calculation the model + YS160 + Hatori short tune + Hatori Header
+ all parts, servos, horns, battery etc. etc. will end up 4.7Kg. All the parts supplied are less then the declared max allowed weight.
Along with the TC the model will get close to 4.75KG.
1) Packaging is very good and thermo covers are very nice.
2) Painting is good except the small captions. It looks like there some difficulties painting small items.
3) Thickness of the wings trailing edge is disappointing unless there will be a good explanation for returning to thin configuration.
4) The Canopy weights 225 grams. This is very heavy. I will have to find a better solution and save at list 100 grams there.
5) Carbon parts and accessories are very nice.
My goal will be to finish all with TC at 4.65
See pictures of weights....
