I flew mine in a very stiff wind last weekend at the Jax contest. It was the first test in real foul weather. I was nervous at first, but it was pretty rock solid! Then I had a bit of a mishap with it with the DZ backfire and snapped the gear former with a very nasty "Landing". Good news is I was able to copy the formers and put it all back together, good as new.

I also switched to the AR 80 mount. It fits perfectly, just like Tim mentioned early. It's a little longer than the standard AR mount so I eliminated the spacer I created for it. I also polished the new spinner so ignore my earlier pictures with the ugly spinner slightly misaligned ;-)

I'll have the plane at the Districts so Mike & Jim can actually fly it this time!

Hi Joe

In the email I got from Akiba he stated the airplane uses ZERO right thrust. I've not measured mine yet. I'm all set in the recliner tonight so I'll check mine tomorrow, how about check yours and we can compare notes. I hope to have my second one by the weekend. I talked to Myrle and he has redrilled the AR80 mounts to have both his and the Budd mount bolt pattern so it would bolt directly into this airplane as the firewall comes drilled for a Budd mount. I checked the mount I'd ordered a few weeks ago from Central and it isn't drilled with both. Figures.

Tim the bolt hole pattern is something we discussed at length. We sorta figured if it was going to be done, it needed to be done...but there would always be a period where the mounts are different if you go from an old to new mount. But in the interested of the ultimate goal which is making it all fairly universal in the end, well, time to bite the bullet.

BTW I'll see you at Triple Tree!

Mike,

Are you going to be flying at Triple Tree? Are there many D3 guys coming up?

Hi Derek
I am looking for that white plastic spinner that you received.
Can you please tell me what size it is, how much it weighs, and where can I get it.
Thanks in advance

Hi Isaac,

I think it is one of these two:

[link=http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?products_id=50134]http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?products_id=50134[/link]

[link=http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?products_id=50142]http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?products_id=50142[/link]

It seems like these spinners are sold under the Great Planes brand in the US.

I have used Great Planes 3 ¼ spinner with aluminium back planate this year. It is working find the 300 flights I have done. 200 with YS 160 DZ and 100 with OS 140 RX.

Note! Great Planes 3 ¼ spinner has 4 screws to secure the plastic spinner to the aluminium back planate. The Great Planes spinner with diameter at 3 and less does only has 2 screws.

If I remember correct the weight is around 2.3 ounce.

It is an 89mm spinner from Pilot. I got it direct from Japan through a friend. Most Japanese stores will not sell it directly to overseas customers but if you know someone there that can buy it for you and then ship it out to you then you'll be ok.

Dear friends;

Pilot spinner and GP aluminium back plate spinner are the same, from the same manufacturer. You can find from many Spanish shops asking for CY151589R, but only in red color.

I'll stick it on the scale tonight when I get home and will let you know... based on my other plastic spinners they come out lighter than the Tru-Turn - we'll see if that holds true for the larger one's.

On the right thrust, I measured mine last night and came up with 5/8" less on the right than the left as measured from the elev hinge line to the 17" prop tip. My spinner is centered and equal spacing all the way around. I don't know what that comes to in degrees but it does have right thrust built in. I plan on trying an 18.1x10 this weekend.

Tim,
I'm running the 160 DZ with the APC 18.1x10.1W. It's a great setup (until the DZ gets fussy and throws the prop off...)

The plane has right thrust built into it for certain. I'm finding that the CG doesn't have much of an effect on the performance. I also did a little fussing with the thrust and don't think it plays much of a roll as everyone thinks with these big wide body planes....

Joe I tried an 18.1x10w and it pulled the rpm's down so far (7200) I was afraid to try it.

Rereading Akiba's email I believe the translation was bad. He stated Zero right and 3.5 degrees of down. I think he meant 3.5 right and zero down. I agree on the cg when I went from 195 to 175 I didn't see that much difference.

I've gotten the second kit yesterday. I'll weigh this one tonight and see how it compares to the 1st. I plan on doing a build thread on this one if anyone is interested.
I did bolt the wing down last night and one of the front wing bolts wouldn't align. A few minutes with a drill and bit and all is well. Going through all the stuff I ordered from Central I got everything for the build but the right mount. I ordered an AR-80 mount and they sent me a YS63 mount.
I need to figure out how to add pic's to posts.

What pipe / pipe mount / engine mount are you using? Is Vellum using the same setup in his Proline?
I am hoping to get a YS170DZ next week. Maybe the Proline and the YS will both greet me at the dor at the same time...I wish
