Hi all, Got the Angel on the air over the weekend, flies great. I wish I had taken someones advice and installed a canopy latch. I bought one, but had not installed it yet, and off course it failed, and the canopy is destroyed...
My Hobby Store tells me it might not be so east to replace it, but they'll work on it. Oh well, it was great while it lasted!
Anyone have a canopy laying around that you don't need

I have had MANY flights with mine and EVERY flight has a number of snaps in it . . including 1 1/2 snaps from KE to KE (more recently). Never an issue, and the magnets still feel very strong when installing and removing the canopy . .
Strange . .

Dot ... sorry to hear what happened. Why not email SebArt and inform them how much you love this plane and now you need to sit around looking at it only. I am sure they will do something about it. I know that their emails are actually attended to by someone.
I must be lucky too ... took it to a F3A Meet and my pal was flying P09 with it, the canopy never came off.

I had mine flew off afew times, minor cracks on the canopy.
What i used to do to prevent it from falling off and putting a small clear tape over the canopy tip for before every flight. So far this prevention had not fail on me.
Cheers!

Loosing the canopy was reported on here as early as the first quarter of last year, lots of people have not had the problem, it seems the quality of the magnets or the tollerance between one airframe and another can make a lot of difference to the way the canopy holds on, the simplist mod I found was a catch at the top of the canopy frame bent over at right angles to form a handle to grab hold of and enable removal of the canopy without putting your fingernails under the very thin bottom of the canopy, most Angles I see have damage to the rear edge because of this.

I'm using YS 63S with stock muffler with this plane. It is amazing plane. All air-surface servos are Hitec HS 5245MG Mini digitals and the throttle is HS85MG . I have ironed all parts before assembling and add clear nail polish all the film borders for fuel problems.
All parts fits perfectly ,I used two screws for the canopy mounting for extra flight security.Especially on snaps, spins etc....
The overall flying weight is 2450 gr. Fuel tank is Kavan 350cc. and mounted by the velcro hook and loop tape.
14x4W and 13x8 used in the setup session. For 3D it should be 14x4W APC. For pattern it should be 13x6 to 13x8
I have seen one disadvantage on this design. The mounting and glueing the stab and then assembling the hinges....The elevator halves can be two independent parts...Can be use two micro metal gear servos on the both elevator halves. For example ,HS 85MG or HS 5085MG micro digitals can use both elevator sides. It can be more accurate and easy adjustable...The weight of the two servos is the approx. the same with the standard metal gear servo...If I will make a new one will make like this...
Best Regards

Hello,
I consider buying the Angel for F3A training and maybe for a little 3D, too. I would like to know about power setups with 5s LiPo. I would like to use 5s rather than 6s because I might buy new Hyperion G3 batteries, they can be charged at even 5C. And the charger's power is not unlimited, I think I'm going to get a Hyperion EOS720iNet 250W charger. So, 5s packs could be charged faster because of the lower voltage. But if there will be too little power with 5s, I'll go with 6s. So, what do you say? On Silvestri's flying videos this plane can also do a little 3D, so I would like to get a suitable prop to F3A and 3D, too. What about the batteries, there is 3300mAh and 4000mAh G3 LiPos available?

I know this is a fairly long thread, but if I remember correctly no one found a satisfactory solution using 5S, the only thing I can say is why not buy two 3S Hyperion if they are what you are set on, personnaly I run an AXI motor on a 15 x 10 on 6S, but I have five batteries so don't need to re-charge at the field, also I never charge at any more than 0.5C that way my batteries seem to last a lot longer than most of my peers.

The Extreme Flight 4014-T570 on a 15X10 APC works great for pattern purposes on 5S and 5000ma packs. I know a few others who are using Hackers on 5S, as well. I don't consider the Angel S a 3D plane anyway the way it is layed out. 152 flights and counting.

I can only go by my own experience and the supplied Hacker runs out of vertical on 5S compared to one on 6S it is therefore maginal for F3A practice, I have not used or seen used the Extreme Flight motor so can not comment, but the AXI 4130/16 seems to suite it very well I have yet to find a vertical limit during a schedule.

WOW Mike . . how's the memory
Quite a few commented on their successful 5S Angels on here. Many have bought this as a practice plane running 5S of their 10S F3A 2M packs in it with great success.
My set-up is:-
Set up is:
Hyperion Z4025 486kV Outrunner (bolts straight in with no mods)
Hyperion OPTO 80 ESC
ZIPPY-H 5S 4000
APC 15x8E
1100W
Will do vertical snaps and even hover with this set-up . . and flies a tidy F3A schedule, which is what I bought it for :-)
A fellow F3A pilot has a 6S version and while flying mine, commented that it felt very similar. It's all in the set-up, however the 5S set-up WILL draw more Amps than the 6S for the same power.
It's GREAT
Cheers, JB

Yes, it's not 25 degrees here every day
In winter it's about from -5 to +5 degrees when I fly. I've flown a few times when it was -18 degrees, it was quite difficult for fingers.. The plane was powered by 350 watt motor, I was surprised how much the battery gave power in so cold weather. But of course fewer than in +20 degrees
In summer it's normally 15 - 25 degrees, so it's not so cold that some people think. Actually it might be a good thing sometimes, the battery won't get so warm during the flight.
I know that it's not a 3D plane, I'm interested in F3A, but want to have a plane which is able to do a little 3D, too.
For "normal" LiPos it's good to charge them at 0,5C, max charge at 1C. But these new G3 batteries are allowed to be charged at 5C, according to the specs. I would charge them at 3-4C.
The brand new Hyperion ZS 4025-10 might also be a interesting choise. It's so new that there is not measurement data with different props. It's 505kV and weighs 416g, so 15*8 or 16*8 might be suitable on 5s. What do you think?

This is what I use on 6S: http://www.modelmotors.cz/img_det.ph.../AXI413016.gif so if you can get the spec of the motor you wish to use compare it, the AXI has a bit more power than the Hacker supplied with the Angel, well it shows it does in the air compared with others I have flown with.

Anyone has Angel with glow power? Especially with YS63? How do you have installed it, using the conversion kit? I would like to see some pictures about it. Thanks.

I would REALLY like the Angel 50 / YS63 combination, but I have never seen one.
A friend has an OS55AX fitted and it flies really well. No need to get a conversion kit. He just cut the motor box in the middle and shortened it to the required length, then sheeted the engine box and firewall with 1.5mm balsa and glassed it (from memory).
You will need to run the standard muffler (which would be fine) as it would be difficult to fit a Hatori set-up into it.
Please post some pics and flight performance info if you do it . . I will be very interested.

A pal of mine wanted an Angel and we did the conversion befor the kit came out, should be much easier now, I would think that knowing Sebart they will have an instruction manual on thier site, have a look.

Sorry to reply so late, and I hope this is helpful.
I use 5s5000 packs on a Hacker A50-12S with a 16x10 APCe prop. I have beyond unlimited vertical and over 1300 watts of power. Personally I have found that for F3A practice a 15x8 prop and 1000 watts is plenty, but I guarantee the Hacker A50-12S, 5s1p, 16x10 is a GREAT 5s setup for the Angel.
The graph below is showing the A50-12S with a TrueRC 5s5000 pack and a 16x10 APCe prop.

Okay, I decided to do it, Angel with YS63
I've installed servos and other stuff, now I have to install the motor. I will use Sebart's glow conversion kit, just like Niccolo Nassi at the video from Sebart's site. I also bought Hatori muffler, my friends said that the including muffler isn't so good. I think there is no problems to fit Hatori setup in Angel, there is quite much room under motor mount.Servos are DS 821, throttle servo Hs 81. I will first try to fly with DS 821 original horns, but I think that I have to change them to Dubro's extra long horns to get enough control throws for Freestyle/3D.
Battery Hyperion G3 1600mAh 2S
CC 10A BEC and Power box Smart switch
AR 7000 receiver
I can tell you flight reports when it flys and post some pics.
I wanted to get YS, because I will fly both, F3A and Freestyle. In freestyle a good throttle response is needed.
