Thank you Vincent.
John there is a 1/16" gap, not much for a foam, although that is a good idea. But with such a small gap and a pivoting hinge anything placed in there would create a binding effect, be it ever so minor. I was looking more for what you guys thought of the idea of the detail. Given the responses as to how to do it rather than any it don't need it I will do it. So I will more than likely do it and use paint. Thanks for the suggestions, and the help.

Hey guys, I need some opinions on a detail. In the pic at the rudder you can see something black. The plane has some sort of gap filler the rudder and elevator joint. I am thinking of painting the L/E of the rud/ele and the T/E of the stab/fin black to simulate this filler. The only issue is when on the ground and the surfaces are not in a neutral setting the black will be offset a little, of which I don't think would be much.
What do you guys think about painting this?

That might be feasible. Cut a piece that covers the fin trailing edge to the hinge, then turns out to the rudder and maybe an 1/8" to a 1/4" on the rudder. Hmmm, I'll have to do a practice piece (no adhesive) and see, maybe something really flexible like electrical tape.

And here is a shot of the wing with the new white. All that remains of color work is the red for the center star, the blue is the painted decal so it's done and two of the starts need some red touch up.

Looking good Robert.
Those are gap seals that are put in the elevator and rudder to get better airflow and enhance control effectiveness. They are often put on the ailerons too. The style you're seeing there have an hourglass profile. Another common style is a strip of rubber fixed to the wing and trailing back over the gap to the control surface. That might work better on your plane.

All of this you may already know...if so, I apologize.

Ace take a look at the images on this thread... if you have a bit of a gap at the hing lines, the black foam weather strip should work nicely,

My gap in the control surface joints is 1/16" maybe slightly less. I'm sorry guys but I'm not going with foam in there, but I do appreciate the effort to help. A vinyl tape will give the look without any resistance, or I'll paint it. The Pylon racers and large scale 3D guys use tape in their joints without issue so tape should work real well.
To whom ever mentioned tape thanks, I had not thought of it or how much I know of it's use.

And here is that gold vinyl I painted, it transferred well with no peel or deformatio. But apparently the star that I used to tape off the areas for the colors was not identical to these stripes. I know I should have double checked it but did not think about it, obviously. A little touch up with the airbrush and it will be good.

Needless to say I am extremely happy with how it is turning out, I did have my doubts until that first reveal though.
