I don't know about perfect, but, it is nice.
While I have it in the shop I put stronger springs on the gear. Here is a shot of the gear springs, yours is now the same way.

I was already to say congrats, will wait a bit longer, the Plexiglas sounds a lot like Styrene which cracks when drilling an edge also, something about temper, I don't know what kind of bits you use but brad point bits cut from the outside inward where as a standard bit cuts from center outward creating pressure and more heat. I don't know how small a brad point you can get. Just some chatter from my end.

Thanks for the thought Leroy and your right it is very much like styrene. I am going to bail on the Plexi, just to much of an issue compared to PETG. Hopefully I can pick some up here shortly.

Sorry Ace, I was rooting for ya... I'll sign off the plexi as well then... acrylic is brittle, but I wouldn't have expected it to crack so soon... can you get PETG in the thickness you need to make it sturdier.

I do appreciate the kind words but, for every two steps forward there are three steps back. I set out this morning to get all the holes drilled and fasten it all together. That's when the curse words came into play. Plexiglas does not take to being drilled, it cracks, I even tried a diamond encrusted bit. So! I have the vac table working and am happy with that but I am going to have to go back to PETG. The funny thing is, and I use that word loosely, as soon as it cracked I remembered it. Whilst time passes waiting for the PETG I can refinish the plug so it is smooth as a babies butt.
LoL, yeah I knew you say that... just tease'n ya about Paula Abdul... but the lyrics to her song are fitting with your statement " every two steps forward there are three steps back"
Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American" has always been a great airshow theme song.

Working on the mold. The plug I pulled from the one I bought was really rough. I sanded it smooth and have applied glass over it. I have glaze coated and sanded it twice but have one more go around with the sanding and it will be ready. And yes this one will be glass smooth. I also found out from the plastic company that they make special bits for drilling plastic and will get one on order. I really liked the stiffness of the Plexiglas and would like to try it again. But I will pull a couple from the PETG as well while I'm at it just in case.

I had mentioned lexan before... it is a lot tougher than plexi, but it gets brittle as it ages, at least the thinner stuff does... its used a lot in the boating industry for deck windows... they're pretty strong and can handle the weight of a person walking on them, but they craze with age in the sun light... PETG in the thicker form is pretty stiff.
Acrylic ( plexi ) has always reminded me of peanut brittle, its fine until you hit it or stress it, then it just gives way.

My Feedback: (6)
I bought 3/16 Lexan a few years ago to use as cheap storm windows over some 4X4 windows, it did save them from the hall storm that tore up my roof two years ago. I still have the panels in the garage but I replace the windows so I don't need them. Then again I don't think I would want a 3/16" thick canopy on my airplane!

You guys lose me with the Lexan versus Plexi conversation. Everything I have read and every plastic company that I have spoke with say Lexan is a brand name of Plexiglas. Plexiglas by trade is actually called polycarbonate sheet. There are three major brand names, Lexan, Tuffak, and Macrolon, of which all brands have variables in type's of polycarbonate for different applications. PETG is a polyethelene and is far more flexible than plexi. Both have their pros and cons and for what I am looking for in this canopy I believe the plexi (at least from plastic people's recommendations) is most suited. As for sun light, this bird won't see enough to be a consideration. As for impacts, well, it damn sure best not be seeing any and if it does I think the canopy would be the least of my concerns.
If anyone knows better by all means spit it out.

Ace, my understanding is lexan is a polycarbonate, and plexiglass is acrylic... lexan has a much higher impact resistance than plexiglass, lexan is the same stuff RC car bodies are made out of.
