Ok, I have the new elmod system with the blaster IV unit and I really like it alot. I have heard that it is possible to take sounds from other sources and install them in this system, but I am lacking any real experience doing this and don't want to lose the existing sounds by fiddling around. Is anyone out there that can give a complete tutorial on how this would be done and what the limitations are if any.I, for instance, wanted to take the sounds of a running tank on a youtube video and use them for my tank. Can this be done? Thanks as always for any input. I appreciate the help.

I am doing the same thing right now. I was up until 03:00 trying to have my own sounds played. I added the sound files to the folder and then modified the ini file. Instead of an MG sound I wanted a voice. All the other sounds work fine but when I press the MG button all I get is silence. This tells me I edited the correct ini file, but for some reason my sound must be in the wrong format or something. I recorded it as a 22 Khz wave file. El mod says it need to be an 8 bit file, and this is where I am stumped. I can't find anything on my sound software that identifies this.
So yes I need some help here too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have some experience with Elmod Blaster III only, but I think it is similair
1. First of all You need Micro SD card reader ( USB version?)
2. Remove SD card from Blaster , place it into the reader, and connect the reader to PC. The content of the SD card should appear as aaditional drive in Your system (Windows?). Now You can copy and delete all files stored on SD card
3. Backup all original files stored on SD card onto Your hard drive.
Blaster gives opportunity to use up to eight different sound tank projects. Each sound project is stored in folder named 111, 110, 101 etc. Name of the folder refers to jumpers J1, J2, J3 position on Your Blaster module /Jumper J4 is not used in sound selection/
For example
J1 J2 J3
1 1 1 Tiger1
1 1 0 Tiger 2
1 0 1 Tiger 1
1 0 0 Panzer IV
0 1 1 Panzer III
0 1 0 T34
0 0 1 Panther
0 0 0 Abrams
1- jumper closed
0- jumper open
Each sound project stored in folders 111, 110 etc consist of several "wav" sound files (8 bit 22 kHz). The configuration of sound files is stored in text file named "blaster.ini" . See attached file for details

OK so how do I record 8 bit files. My sounds are 16 bit, and I have yet to be able to find anything that lets me change this???
#5
1. each wav file name should be compatibile to DOS - max 8 character lenght
2. wav format must be 8 bit , mono, 22 Khz
3. file name in blaster.ini and in folder must be the same
see atachment

Yes I understand all that but I need to know how to record 8 bit sounds. I don't seem to have that option. Lowest I have is 16 bit. Does this mean I have to find an earlier operating system to work with. Maybe Windows 7 can't work with 8 bit stuff???

Example how to convert mp3 file into wav, 8 bit mono using Audacity v1.2.6 software
- open mp3 sample
- set in Audacity Preferences valid output wav format /Edit- Audacity Preferences - File Formats/
- select fragment of sound file
- export selection as 8 bit wav mono
- open mp3 sample
- set in Audacity Preferences valid output wav format /Edit- Audacity Preferences - File Formats/
- select fragment of sound file
- export selection as 8 bit wav mono

Thank you gentleman. It was the info on how to save a file as an 8 bit sound that solved the problem. My Leo is now one of a kind!!!!

Very helpful information. But my question still is not answered as to how you could extract sounds from a ideo source from youtube and use that in the sound module. I am not literate with these kinds of programs and need as much guidance as you can provide.

You would have to play it from you tube and record it as a wave file. Then go through the process explained above to capture to the EL mod hardware.
I will be doing the same. I want Taps or Amazing grace to play once the tank is put out. I doubt I can find any wave files, so I will have to try it by recording if on the computer. Quality will drop off a lot through this process.

Seems like quite a pain in the butt to do this. I don't understand this process very well. How do you record the sounds from youtube? And once you complete the process above, how do you know where to put the custom sound in the soundcard so it will play when you want it to?

For example You can use keepvid.com
1. open choosen video on Youtube
2. copy URL adress of that video and paste it into www.keepvid.com (URL dialog)
3. push button Download
4. select desired video format - for example flv - low quality
5 save the flv video file onto Your hard drive
Later You can extract audio track from such flv video using free Any Video Converter software and save it as mp3
http://www.any-video-converter.com/p...or_video_free/
The next step You can use Audacity software opening this mp3 file, edit and convert it to wav 8 bit mono
1. open choosen video on Youtube

3. push button Download

I don't have El-Mod but here are some tips which might help:
To record video from YouTube videos you will need a software program that allows you to record streaming audio from websites. You may find some free ones out there but I am always concerned they might be spyware. I have used [link=http://www.wondershare.com/pro/streaming-audio-recorder.html]Wondershare Streaming Audio Recorder[/link] and have found it to work very well once you figure it out. It costs about $30. You can also download it as a free trial if you just want to try it first.
Another thing I thought about, instead of stripping either the left or right track to end up with a "mono" track, why not mix the two tracks and convert to mono? That way you are not losing any audio information. Here is the Audacity tutorial on how to do that: [link=http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Mixing_stereo_tracks_to_mono_in_yo ur_Project]Click Here[/link].

Thanks Luke - You are right - it is better to mix both channels .
However in such format /8 bit mono/ quality of Elmod amplifier and standard speaker the difference will be probably very small

Go over the stuff that WSN provided. All the info is there that you need. Trust me I am not a natural at this kind of stuff either, but I was able to get some results by following WSN's guide. When you get the file to Audiocity, you must change the sample rate to 22Khz, format the sound over to mono, and then export as an 8 bit file into the sound set you are working on. All of this stuff is done with mouse clicks on the menu bar. Once you have it in a EL MOD sound file set you should rename as per their instructions, You then have to go into the Blaster INI file located in that sound set, and edit it to play the files you have added.
If you are changing the hit sound, you edit that line in the inifile. You remove the Hit_1.wav and replace it with your file name of what you want to hear instead.
Trust me this is the biggest drawback to El MOD, and I have shied away form using mine to its fullest potential until yesterday. Now that I understand how it works, I am really impressed with what you can do with it.
If nothing else email me the files, and I will do the editing for you. We are in the middle of a plant turnaround, and I am very busy, but if you are patient with me I will do this for you if you are stuck.
