You explained that very well and this is one of the most popular RC forums that I have seen, and at times it is still very slow.I have seen other forum sites that have many catagory's and appear to be laid out well, but if there is only 10 people on it and no builds going on what good is it.Also a lot of new guys don't exactly know how and which question to ask, that comes later with time and experience. They are lucky to figure where to post let alone know what the FAQ section is.Richard our tank forum moderator has done a good job trying to get a lot of the procedures to do a repair in the FAQ section, but some of the stuff in there to a novice is way over thier head without more detail questions being envolved and answered.I have in the past also thought it might be nice too have a couple of catagories to kind of seperate builds, but then where is the line to be drawn.Rather it stay the same and active than
take a chance on hurting it. BIGMIG

Thank you very much

I guess it's difficult to plan for an explosion of interest and then a lull.

I've only known about Heng Long tanks for a few months but i noticed at christmas that the tanks were everywhere, this can only mean there are a lot of tankers about to hit the net[X(][X(]

I think it's good when a forum experiences a 'lull moment'. It means that all of the questions have been answered correctly, all of the repairs seemed to have worked and that we have other "things" going on while we are building, so nothing crops up.

This forum is self serving too. Newbies stick around to help other newbies to return the favor. Complaining about it "dieing a slow death" is ridiculous.

Stages, levels? Give me a break, so anyone who likes working with HL or something else remain in this lower stratum.
Upper echelon reserved for Tamiya and scratchbuilt only please, that's your way to class this forum not mine.

This is one the the main reason's forums die. There is nothing wrong with being proude of your tanks, but when you throw a name around because you think it puts you in some elite level above others--you need to wake up to reality--I have a few tanks that I paid 10 dollars each for them and they are a kick in the butt-----There are other forums where you can do this along with the other 8 or 10 people on them.Don't work all that well here because most of us are on here just having fun playing with our toys.
BIGMIG

P.S. I do have a build i'm going to start tomorrow if my next project arrives tomorrow in one piece. It was suppose to have been here friday but the mountain passes between me and the dealer have brought a lot of trucks to a stand still.Getting record level snow fall in a lot of the mountains on the west coast.

SmittyRob - You are missing the point I was trying to make, it is the difference between a 12 year old with a snap together kit and a modeler with 20+ years.

I am sorry if my message came across too harshly, and its not that I think questions are bad, I just wish sometimes people would do a little reading first. In no way do I want this forum to die, it has kept me sane some nights when work was tough. Generaljumbo - 43 years young right? Happy birthday!!!

I do hate to differentiate based on brand name, but it seems it is the only way to catagorize a RTR tank vs. an R/C Kit.

There should be no sub-division where "noobs" can ask questions (only to have those with the answers not look in there, cuz thats where the annoying "noobs" asking questions are).

I'm with smitty on the grades/levels -- I've built that many model tanks in my life, but still I get HL's because I'm happy with them and to me personally Tamiya pricing ($xxx for 1 tank) just isn't practical.

This forum is for everyone and the questions posed by some, are in many ways unique. Not all inquiries are alike and I note that many repeated questions are referred to the War Room and FAQs section where many of the answers are to be found. I have read many replies that helped me diagnose or fix a small problem and have been , in my own smalll way, able to assist others. I have hands on expertise on many tanks and able and willing to lend the benefits of my experience. But on the other hand, I work/rebuild tanks which pose problems in acuracy which I am happy to find on this forum, a number of members very well versed in that particular tank and likewise, able and willing to share. I dislike all the Tam-HL bashing that tends to rear its' ugly head, but that also gets cleared up on its own. I now have 33 RC tanks and only two (2) are Tamiya. Personally, I like my HL tanks and with the proper upgrades, they run very well @ less than half the price. Any model needs improvement over the Chinese designs that go into them, and this forum is great in that respect as well as reading neat "how to's" on redesigning or converting to a different model. I have been modelling for many years and for 6 yrs professionally for a military museum, BUT, I admire and learn something new all the time from others on this forum and am always picking up tips and shortcuts. Lets keep the forum the way it is and if there are newbee posts that are not in accordance with your level of acceptance, then simply skip over and go to something interesting [>:]

Well said Pattoncommander.
Always learning, in the most dumb question there is always something to learn or discover. One thing that I enjoy in this forum is the "melting pot" feeling, my other favourite forums are strictly categorized and that's another way.not worst nor better, just different

As Bill says:
"Lets keep the forum the way it is and if there are newbee posts that are not in accordance with your level of acceptance, then simply skip over and go to something interesting "

Cheers

I would not be in this hobby if it were not for this forum and the kind people who patiently help me with my rc ignorance. I find it hard not to take your comment harshly OliveLove. And I for one do use the RCU search engine frequently, but what makes this Forum so great is the eagerness of those members who want to help plebs like me.

I agree we don't need a separate section for newbies. If there was would the "experienced" tankers go into it and help out the newbies? Probably not so what would the sense be for them to post a question in that section?... none of the "experienced" tankers would reply to them. Even though I'm not a Tamiya tanker, or into american, russian, and modern tanks I still read the posts even though I don't usually post a reply but at least I still check out the posts.
As for "DUMB" questions.... there are no dumb questions except for the ones you don't ask!!! To some they may be dumb questions but to the person asking the dumb question it may not be a dumb question to him.
As for the bickering yes it happens we are all human or supposed to be and no one can agree with everyone or anyone all the time. Lets just enjoy the forum and have fun and get along.... just my 2 cents right or wrong

I made a comment, which you quoted: " some people are born stupid " - do you disagree with that statement?

I made the assumption you were calling me stupid. It can be hard as written word has no tone of voice....

I will admit that I think your idea is not a good one: putting new people with questions in one place, while the people with the answers are in another. I also don't believe in ranking/levels and elitism. Tankers are tankers, we all share and participate in our own ways - this isnt scientology lol (pay more, get to a higher level)

[] I am a 57 year old disabled Viet Vet. I have just started building RC tanks. Its one of the few things I can do and receive any pleasure. I have had to ask for help on a couple of occasions, one was a good experience. The other I was made to feel stupid because I was asking for help in the wrong forum. Very good way to loose new members. I rode the back of an M48A3 in Viet Nam on a road sweep on highway one. I was able to spend some time talking to the TC he was the one who interested me in tanks. His tank was named "THOR" and had the war hammer carried by the Thunder God in Marvel comics. The tank took heavy fire during an ambush in operation "Durham Peak". As a Marine Grunt I was damn glad it was there, the tank and crew helped save a lot of us stright legs. Anyone knowing anything about them please let me know, so I can thank them and oh yea! please forgive us nubies who don't know the proper forum to go to. Were just trying to get help and learn to have some fun too.

Well I'm glad you didn't let the bad experience influence you too much. I personally think when new guys show up, the forum needs to give them some slack. Whether it be newbie questions or posting on the wrong section. For some, the whole forum experience may be new to them, and that alone can be intimidating enough. Start jumping on their back and suddenly it is not fun for them anymore.

I will say that the members of this forum have their hearts in the right place. A forum message can easily be mis-interpreted without the facial expressions and body language to go along with it, so you made the right choice to stick with us.

Hey crose,

Glad you stuck it out and we do get kind of silly around here with some of the directives! I think it is easy at times to get carried away with our online persona's, mayself included I just looked at some of the early hammerings I took as being the new guy to the unit. You know the guy you send to the chow hall to find the squeegie sharpner, or if he is really out of his element you may even be able to get him to ask the gunny where to get the dehydrated water!!!! But we are suppose to be grown up now.... anyway it is a great place to learn and a ton of personalities on here and room for everyone!

Hey BLITZ,looks like me and you went to the same school and were in the same spelling class. I think we should have payed more attention to the teacher and did a little less talking about tanks in the back of the class room.

I think most all will agree it is great to have this forum and the ability to communicate with other people from around the world who
like to have fun in a public community with their hobby.Sometimes it is easy to over look the fact that we are all assoiciated with this hobby at different levels. All we need to do is just respect that fact and allow others to injoy what ever level they are at,there is room for all of us.There is a lot that can be learned on this forum,no mater what you like and build. I do believe that I have sutably been put in my place that other members of the forum don't like the idea of sub-dividing the forum. Clearly everyone likes the mix of brands, and skill levels. With that I think this thread has been ridden for enough and the issue needs to be dropped.
