Big air causes Big failures, keep it close to the ground and you wont have that problem, I learned long ago in motocross racing you always went faster when the tires were touching dirt!! Its hard to accel in mid air!! Wheel spin never counts!!

For the rest of you guys out there, the point was missed by some! All I am saying is theres a way to drive thats easy on your equipment and of coarse there are those at the track that always seam to break something, you guys know who there are, If you have countless cubic dollars to spend on you truggy then by all means bash it!! As always its a personal choice! Butt please don't complain and whine to the rest of us!

Hello,

Looking into getting the Hellfire SS Kit. Does any one have a rough idea on how fast they are with the HPI K4.6 High Output Hellfire Engine. I have the MT2 18SS and love it. Just want to get my hands on a 1/8 scale Nitro.

The Hellfire-One went about 35.5 MPH with a 13T CB and a 52T SG. Hellfire SS would have the same gearing but a lighter SG so with reduced mass probably add a couple tenths (Just guessing). May I suggest a Picco 28?

RushDL,

Great, Thanx for the info. Is the Ofna .28 Picco Engine a better engine than the HPI K4.6? If so what makes them better? Does the Ofna bolt right to the Hellfire engine mounts or do you have to modify the mounts.
Thanx

The K4.6 was nice. I had trouble tuning it for a while, then I got it dialed in right before the crank broke right after the threads. I got a reamed out smokin' crank from EBays Juiski, tuned it up and then sold it all on EBay to get an SS. It's good to remember that the factory settings are Flush which is easy to remember (I didnt know this until WAY too late). On the SS I went all out imho and bought the Novarossi N528XR which requires a bumpbox and has a turbo head. If you get one with a Pullstart I cant promise you wont need to spend money on some taller mounts but I think the 2 separate engine mounts accomadate the pull and no-pull engines, and the 1-piece only for bumpstart. I think. I can tell you this, my NovaRossi in this SS sits a lot lower than the Hellfire-1. My body can rest on all it's lowest pegs and leaving about 6mm from heatsink to roof. That is a friggin huge advantage. As far as the Picco 28 goes? I almost bought it but did not, as I wanted to play with a so-called elite brand mill, and consider the Picco a budgetminded purchase. A great one though.

EVERYTHING depends on if you are a racer or not.

The K4.6 is very underrated, but the Picco will have an edge on it. The K4.6 is generally more reliable. If you're looking for a good "training engine" go for the HPI. It can push just about anything around.

Please, I would like to know as to improve understeer that hellfire has. I bought hellfire the little time and could perceive that in original setup the car seems not to have steering enough. It would have as to improve this?

Is the Axial 28 Spec 1s a decent engine for the Hellfire SS and has anyone raced the Hellfire SS yet?

Thinking of getting a nitro rc buggy/ truggy I have been doing some research online and like the look of the Hellfire my last rc car was a Hornet many years ago it seems like a lot has changed since then. I do not have any real experience in the rc car world any comments regarding the pros and cons of the Hellfire would be appreciated

Cheers

In my opinion the Hellfire is a great Truggy but, needs a few changes right off the start. 1) you will need a hightorque steering servo - the stock one is junk and won't last you 10 tanks of fuel. 2) the whole radio system is about as cheap as they come - you have only 6 channel choices and, the signal is really weak - run offs are easily possible. 3) the stock Clutchbell is to small - top speeds are prolly only 30 MPH - a 15 tooth is what is should of came with! 4) You need at least 30k weight oil in the center diff and, 10k in the f/r - the diffs unload like crazy until this is done.

Overall i have the Hellfire and, was stuck making the changes. I like it very much now with a few changes but for nearly $600 dollars US + a radio and, HT steering servo - you'd prolly do better to grab a RTR Truggy that COMES WITH a decent radio and, servos! Or buy the SS kit BUT, that takes the whole point out of Ready To Run.

Thanks for that I am not too clued up on clutch bell system and other technical talk I have ony had electric in the past sure I will learn quick how to get the best from it with a bit advice which I thank you for. I am going to go in to a shop maybe end of the week and take a look at the Hellfire and look at other options however from looking online it certanly looks the best truggy and the videos I have seen it appears to be able to handle great and move at some speed.

Not sure whyt it comes with rubbish servos and radio equipment you would think for the price that the equipment would be good I did look at the ss but can not justify paying all that money on my first model.

A couple of things

1 How much would the petrol/gas cost for say an hour session

2 Once bought how much to maintain ie how often to tyres need changed etc

Cheers

Since this is your first non electric - maybe for your first Nitro Truck you'd want to look into something easier to maintain, has electric start, and, is more durable - would stand up to thr rigors of crashes and, big jumps. I would also look into the Hobby Shops around you to see what trucks they have the most parts support for. My advice to you is get a new Revo 3.3. It will be plenty fast and, if you decide you want to race down the line it will take just a few hopups/changes to make it a good racer!

A gallon of Nitro Fuel is around $28-$32 US. Figure on 15 to 20 minutes per 5 ounce tank and, there are 144oz in a gallon. Tires should last a while if you running offroad but, if you run primarily on the street you will go through tires more often.

Thanks for the advice going to local model shop soon and I will check them both out. I have to say that Revo 3.3 looks very good and looks like it would withstand a few amature crashes thanks again

Hi guys, great threat (was a little nasty for a bit but...) I am trying to tune my 4.6 and it seems to be running hot. Anyone running their 4.6 in the 275-300 f range, It seems to have a lot of smoke coming out but seems to be a little hot. I know the old savage motors ran REALLY hot, is this motor the same way? Thanks for any info you guys can suppy!

check the manual, page 12. It says that if you run your hellfire engine above 250F you are going to burn it. Adjust your carburator following the manual instructions. dont be lazy...

Your engine must run at 230F~.
