I agree that the .61 has plenty of power for this plane but I also think that it flys just a tad faster than scale with the .61. That's fine with me because I like it a little faster than scale. The added power of the .61 helps too if you find yourself in a stupid situation as we all do from time to time. With a .46 on it you had better fly it VERY carefully as you won't be able to recover from any stall that finds you very close to tera firma. Since figuring this planes cg issues out I was brave and purchased a P-51 .50 size from cmp and balanced it a 3" as well and guess what? Beautiful flyer with better landings than the P-47. Same for the .50 size Zero and Corsair. I have them all and balanced every one of them a 3" and they are awesome performers but they all have GMS .61's in the nose. These little planes look sweet but in my opinion are all on the heavy side. So go buy some, put .61's in them, balance them at 3" and enjoy the heck out of them!!

[edit! - sorry - I meant to say I'd post them here. Not sure what I was thinking]

I am likewise struggling with the belly-pan issue. The instructions absolutely suck wind with this piece. I can't agree with other folks saying that epoxying the thing is the best answer. What I am preparing is another center dowel/spar and a wider set of nylon screws to mount the wing and the pan together (to the fuselage). I'll post a picture once the build is complete. I am going through other efforts including a more scale/real canopy, paint job and CG adjustments. Please keep your eyes peeled.

Thanks to all for the valuable information. I too was in the process of building the .40 size thunderbolt. The tail is very heavy for a small plane like this, ouch!. I own and operate the CMP 71" Spitfire with a .91 FX and it flys great. I'll go with the .61 and 3inches CG. Thanks Guys! Happy Flying.

Ok, read lots here on the 40 size P-47.
I have an Evolution engine I'm pondering using from the Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS. Dropped a 52 into the raptor. Anyway, motor is the EVO100 and is pretty close in comparison to the EVO46. Leary now of 46 sized motors for the P-47 after reading some posts here.
Anyone using a smaller 4 stroke in this plane? I have a Saito 125a but thats overkill as is a 91.

Well, from what I've read the 3'' CG should be fine. Variable is the weight of the motor you use.
I've decided to use the OS 75AX on my P-47. Pretty damn close in power and the same weight as the OS 91FX but has the 60 size mounting dimensions. I'll try a 3'' CG and put it on the Great Planes CG Machine. Good investment for 25.00, really nails down the CG of any airplane.

Hi
I got the silver version of this CMPro 40 P 47. I guess this model is the same as the camo version so that I should try to get the CG at 76mm as a start.
My plan was to put a electric engine in this one, I have a Cyclone Power 55 lying here screeming for a plane to catch Link to this engine http://www.cyclonbrushless.com/cyclon_power.htm
If anyone here has any experience to share about use a electric engine please share information.

Thanks
Are

Hi
Some updates. I have mounted the cowling and cut a opening in the firewall for a battery tray.
I´ll try to post some pictures.

It looks like you have a very excellent P-47 model there.

I have also a Cmpro P-47 120 size...I am wondering this CG 120mm-130mm from the leading edge, that is written in the manual is proven the correct one.

Can somebody give me some advise?

Thanks.

Start with 25% of the max cord measured closest from the fuse/wing connection , that is your best bet -adjust back from there after flying -its a safe start point

I recently had problems withan FG20...sent away & parts have been replaced....i wanted a cheap airframe to test out the engine, ended up with a well used Cmpro P47 razorback!!...only recently found out it was a china models special...so hunted down the CG setting & throws etc, i have set this @ 120mm from the leading edge...needed no weight only repositioned my receiver battery...balanced level, this plane feels rather heavy!.
Set to test it...it was far too windy the other day...guys any advise would be most welcome!...many thanks!!.

Hello Neogold,

I have one of these, loved it so much that I did a complete makeover because I didn't care much
for the camo scheme it had. I changed the canopy to one for the top flite .60 and got a good fit and
more scale look, it also received a complete cockpit. My CG is more like 110mm or 105mm.
Using a YS120 with MA classic 16X8 prop (9000 rpm) I get tons of pulling power (almost unlimited vertical) but I could do with a bit more speed.. Overall a great plane to kick around! Have fun with
yours!

Superb work there Full Rudder!!....mine looks like its been shot to bits!!...there was a fare bit of patching up to do & repairs over repairs!..but hey, it flew better than i expected...
The FG20 behaved itself for the latter endof the day, but if its starts showing up any problems again, I'll throw it back through the model shop window!...swop it for a saito 125a or something.
Yes, I'll have to take some pics of mine this wkd & insert some here.

Thanks Neo, by the way can I have the adress of your model shop ... maybe I'll sit quietly close to the
back window... mind you the airfare to get there will be more than the FG20! Keep with it, this plane
is lots of fun, once dialed in. Here are a few shots taken on one of those perfect days for pictures, the
clouds were just right for that 'taken at 5000 feet" look. None of these were touched up except for making
one black and white (they were all taken before the new paint job).

Keep the reports coming in!

If anyone can help I have, what I think, is a old CMP P-47. WS is about 68 1/2" but the wing is fabric covered. If you can verify that's what this is it would be great and if you could tell me where to find a manual even better. Thanks

I have started my journey with one of these CMP P-47 razorbacks with the fiberglass fuse and the foam core balsa sheeted wing. Mine came without the ****ty retracts so I bought a set of retracts from Phoenix Model Products and they are pretty cheap and actually really nice for the money. I got a set of Robart scale wheels with the plastic hubcaps. They look fairly scale kinda like the plane in general it's just sort of scale...I tore off all the covering on my wing and had to do major surgery to get my retracts to fit. I am going with a Hacker A50 16L with a Castle Talon ESC. Apparently I am the only guy trying an electric setup on this plane. I just hope it's enough power for it. I went with Hitech karbonite analog full size servos and I'm going to install a Futaba GYA 553 gyro system. Wish me luck. Shes getting close to the finish line.
