RE: New to Electrics

ESCs (Electronic Speed Controller) are pretty straightforward- there are two main types, either brushed or brushless (easy to tell the difference, brushless motors have three wires, brushed, only...

RE: Velcro, Adhesives and Balsa--do they mix?

I use thin CA and rub it around on the wood with a piece of wax paper. The velcro adhesive sticks really well after that. AJ

RE: Inexpensive clear coat

If it's UV that causes yellowing you need to put it out in the sun. Flourescent bulbs give off only a little UV...
Give it a day or three in the sun- I'd be interested in th result too.:D

RE: how much is enough?

There are calculators out there like this: http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/eflight/calcs_servo.htm
It claims to be conservative, but I'd go for a safety factor of 1.5 or even 2 to be sure.

RE: How good is the 6v V/S 4.8v

Makes sense- under load, the servo draws what power it needs. Power = Voltage * current, so at higher voltage (given the same flight load), it will draw less current. So a 6.0V pack with the same...

RE: Hog Bipe Tail Weight

Besides moving the battery can you move the tail servos to the back? That's a major project after the covering is on, I know.

If it were me, I would want the weight as far aft as possible, but...

RE: Modern day finishes for silk and nylon?

I've done the same, Koverall, Minwax polycrylic, latex paint. Only I top-coated with TopFlite LustreKote Clear for the fuel proofing stage. There were no problems with adhesion of the latex to the...

RE: What kit would you stash away if you found out all kits would be discontinued?

A second vote for the Proctor kits. There isn't much else out there that couldn't be plans-built with some extra effort. Wait, plans would still be available, right[X(]:D Andy

RE: Newbie question... Answers appreciated :D

Using a regulator would work as far as lowering the voltage, but I can't think of any reason to use one, as opposed to just lowering the number cells. A linear regulator like the one in the link has...

RE: The Right Kit

If you're looking for a smaller electric, the StevenAero RV-4 is recommended. Laser cut, low wing, semi-sym airfoil. Big wing area like a 4-star. I'm building the Great Planes version- I would not...

RE: Mid * 40 tail wheel ?

I guess if you were a perfectionist you'd want the pivot point aligned with the rudder hingeline. But since there is a spring in between the rudder and the pivot, it will be fine.

RE: Mid * 40 tail wheel ?

Looks good to me... Not sure what you are refering to, distance to the tail? I don't think it's that critical. I used blind nuts to mount mine, took it off until after the covering was finished. Andy

I am a member of HCAM, and I just started flying this year. I don't know much about the other club, but I know that HCAM is a super friendly bunch. You should just stop by and say hi sometime. The...

RE: Trouble Starting Magnum XL-52RFS Engine

There is a huge long thread on this engine here at RC Universe in the Glow Engine forum. Sorry I don't have a link, but a search should turn it up. The take-home message for me was that this motor...

RE: Which 3 blade prop for Magnum XL-91RFS 4 -Stroke

Was your tach set up for a 3 blade prop? They count pulses (i.e. blades) and if it thinks you have a two blader instead of 3, it will read out high. Actual RPM may only be 2/3 of 9000 = 6000RPM. ...

RE: Koveral Appication

Why don't you follow the directions that come with the Koverall? They are short, but they answer most of the questions you asked. Apply at least one coat of nitrate dope, although Sig recommends...

RE: motor cutout

You didn't say what prop you are using but it might be over-propped. There are only 2 reasons a properly functioning ESC should cut out like that: low voltage cut-off or over-temp. The second is easy...

RE: Mid Star 40 Kit Build

If you build it as a taildragger use the Sullivan tailwheel bracket. The tailwheel constuction in the kit is hard on the rudder and rudder hinges.

RE: Help balancing the Kadet LT-40

I built the LT-40 kit and put an OS 40LA in it. I had to add 5.5 oz of lead to get the balance in the center of the main spar. Where did you put the weights? I put them inside the cowl cheeks. It...

RE: Robart Hinges: opinions

I really wanted to use these on my Sig Mid-Star 40 but they are just too big (I bought the 1/8" ones) I measured the strip aileron material thickness and the length of hinge needed to keep two barbs...

I can't help, but you might want to try this rcgroups thread. It seems there is a big Guilllows conversion community at RCgroups. I myself was inspired to get a Mitsubishi Zero and a Stuka... Not...
