Hi all.

I set it up, put it in an airboat, and I was pleasently suprised at how well it went. I know this brushless motor and ESC are very bad quality, but being 14 I have a very low budget, and I want to find out what this brushless stuff is all about. I have decided I want to make a brushless non-airboat boat. A few people have told me that the motor or ESC would melt/burn up, but as it is cheap, I am willing to risk this. As outrunner motors can't be watercooled, I would make it aircooled. I don't really want to have a gearbox, so I know the prop will have to be quiete small. What size hull and prop would you recommend? (I will use a 7.2V 1700mah battery). Sould I make an outrigger?

outriggers are the fastest hull you can make, (do outrggers have the two small sponsons on the back of the main hull??) and use the least material, so thyre lighter too.....i say go for it....why not get a gearbox though, there not that expensive and because BL's spin at high rps, it will be able to spin a biggers prop at normal rps..i guess

The boats must be small, no longer than 18" and weigh not more than about 1.25 lbs. Use a plastic x431 cut sown to 28 mm. The small outrunner does not need water cooling as long as you do not run it for too long at one time. An outrigger can be very difficult to set up correctly for a beginner - I suggest a small mono, surface drive of course. Good luck!

I know outriggers are hard to set up... What size prop and hull would you say for a mono hull?

Oh, also, I don't really want to go lipo. About gearboxes, has anyone got any links for gearboxes that are cheap in the UK?

I have downloaded the plans for Jake's mini mono, from www.microhydros.com ([link=http://microhydros.com/jake_mini_mono.dc]dc file[/link]), and printed them out.

However, I have stuck them together (out of paper). I have sellotaped the transom to the bottom of the hull template, and I have stuck the side view to this, so I have a paper boat, but as you can see frm the photo, it is all messed up and has no curves. How do I make a hull, using their bottom view, the side view, the top view and the transom?
