I just purchased the Proboat Apache and I'm having problems with cooling the motor. I installed a fan on the esc, which is fine but the coil is not keeping the motor cool. I burnt up the stock motor in 10 mins. I installed a 27t motor and having the same issue. I'm at the point of getting rid of the boat. Any help would be great. Thanks

Thanks for the info. I ending up installing a electric fan on the motor. That seem to take care of the problem. Got rid of the boat any way. Just got another Shockwave 26 again. Also got rid of Aquacraft Supervee 27R. What would be a good brushed motor and battery setup to use with the stock esc. Last Shockwave used Villian 550 motor and purple octura prop with 3 cell. Got approx. low 20 MPH. Thanks for the help.

Hi
I can advise you about the props. We do need your propshaft dia though. For your size boat with a ungeared car motor, props from 31mm to 35mm can work. The most used metal prop for this would be a Octura X432. It has a 1/8" drilled hub. A Octura plastic X431 is also good and cheap too. Its good your wires unsoldered form the motor. That likely saved it from burning out the frist two min. you ran it. Also you are overvolting the motor. I will not last long that way.

Newbie here, know next to nothing. The manual say to use a 7.2v Ni-Cd battery (on the apache 24), can Iuse an Ni-Mh, and is there an mAh that is to powerful that might damage the electronics?
Thanks in advance.

Hi you can use any size 6 cell nimh battery pack.
miliamp size does not matter the larger the # the more run time you will get and a little better performance ... try to at least get a 3300mah pack or higher and remember a good quality pack will make your boat run better.

Hi there, yet another noob I'm sure you guys are ecstatic. There is so much info on this site and I am having trouble piecing info together to apply it specifically to my newly purchased Apache 24. If anyone is knowlageable on the specific application in mods for this boat Iam all ears. Took it for it's maiden voyage today, it was fun but soon realized Iwant more speed. I've gathered the two obvious things to achieve higher speedsare bigger motor and the right prop.
Icame across a post that saida S-600 could slip in easily to replace the stock 550 without having to recoil a new water cooling system. As of right now I'm wondering can Igain moderate to significant speed with the stock set up by simplygetting the right prop?Would it be worth the roughly $15 to get slightly bigger motor, if Iupgrade the motor does this mean Ihave to pair a prop accordingly or can Iget the same size as stock (metal of course)with a better pitch.
Additionally what is a typical run time for the stock set up. Iran two batteries through it with about a 10-15 min break between the runs, and noticed the amp (or think is the ESC) was real hot. The motor seemed fine as it's water cooled. Is there an if than rule to mods, i.e. if Iupgrade X then Imust upgrade Y?
Thanks for your patients and inputwith this noob and sorry if this presents as a repeat, and Iattempting to search for my answers but there areyears of post on this threadand Ilack the time to go throughit all sonothing Ifound that adressed my specific questions. My appologies for also posting this in the General Boat Discussion, just hoping to get informed soon so Ican put it all together!

OK, so Iwas running the Apache 24 today. Iwas using a new5000 mAh battery. It ran great for about 10-15 min Ichecked for anyover heating and it seemed pretty cool, Ithenran it for about another 5minand all the sudden stopped. Luckily it's a private lake and Ihad a paddle boat to fish it out, but when Igot close it started running in reverse on it's own, subsequently it took on water and went nose up. got it out the prop was still spinning untill Iturned the switch off. Everythinggot wet, Iplan on letting it dry out for a couple days. Is the battery trashed since it's been submerged or should it still be safe after a few days of drying out?Any problem solving on what happend why it ran in reverse on it's own after stopping dead with no sign of the batter being low i.e. no bogging down or reduced speed.
Thanks
Thanks

I went to lube the drive system tonight, stock apache, ran boat 7 or 8 times all in fresh water. Are the set screws on the motor coupler, drive dog and u-joint are royal pain to break loose or did I miss a memo somewhere? I had to drill the set screws and was using a good 1.5 mm hex wrench. Should I have loosened them/retightened them prior to running? Bought boat about ten days ago. Is there a better driveline harware out there without having to add another rudder? Am I correct in thinking if you go with a flex cable, the stock rudder needs to be locked straight?

I should be getting an apache in a few days I ordered the new 2.5ghz version , my question is if I put in a castle brushless motor for a car can I run the same coupler and shaft because the shaft on the brushless is the same size as the 550 .

The shaft is the same and it should work. But why use a castle motor in it when a cheap $19 one from HK will work. It should move very well with this on 2S [link]http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6527[/link] or this one if you want to get crazy [link]http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6530[/link]
I run the 2600 in my Widowmaker on 2S and it scoots along pretty good considering it's such and unstable boat. Here is some video. [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UkYONC_OhU[/link]
If you go with a 5MM shaft motor you can use the Shockwave BL motor coupler. I think they're like $3 or so.

That motor is too small. It's a 28mm, diameter, motor. Though it might push this light hull around it will draw too much power trying to do so. You're looking for a motor that is 36mm in diameter by 56mm in length, minimum. Anything smaller will be a waste of your money.

The first one you posted will not accept a cooling sleeve because of the fins. The second one you posted is a 28mm motor which wont work.
Is there a reason you don't want to use the Hobby King motors I linked you to? I searched that site and other than the boat motors that are backordered, none others will work. Just get the motor coupler for the Brushless Shockwave and you wont need anything else for the drive. You don't have to change the drive wire. Just the coupling.
