Trex 600 battery question
#1
I've been looking at a Trex 600. The one think that might stop me from moving from 450's to the 600 would be the battery. All my equipment and current batterys are 3s. My question is is it possible to hook two 3s packs up to form the 6s requirments for the 600 size heli? Something like one deans connector wired to another in series coming out to a female plug to the esc.

Absolutely. With a single pole connector (like you use on brushless motors), connect the + of the 1st battery to the - of the 2nd. Then connect the plus and minus of the series connected batteries to your ESC. Just like connecting two batteries in a flashlight. You double the voltage.
I suggest that you separate them when charging so you can use your conventional lipo charger that doesn't charge 6 cells.

I have a question...
What is the amp rating of those 3 cell packs?
I am asking because a 600 motor may draw more amps than a 450 battery is rated for...

2200 mah 20C
2200 mah 20C
2200 @ 20C = 44 amps.
You know @ 44 amps expect 50 cycles on that battery, no more.
How many amps does a 600 XL motor draw? ( I thought they came with a 75 amp ESC)
I think if it even works, it will over stress your cells.
You could use 4 batteries in a 6s2p configuration, then you would have 88 amps on tap. ( I dought a stock motor draws near that much)
the battery will work, in the proper configuration...

Those are the batteries I'm running now, I will get some higher amp 3 cells for the 600. The biggy is the fact that I dont need to swap out my charger and balancers

You will cook your batteries! Some people have used 4400 ma 20c batteries (88 amps) and they still puffed. The 600 needs a good battery like flight power or thunder power 4900-5000 ma. The Trex 600 can peak over 100 amps. The only way you could use the 3s 2200's would be to use 4 packs with 2 in series and 2 in parallel. This would give you 22.2 volt @ 4400 ma that might last a while if they are good batteries.

2X ... 11.1 5000mha 20c/30c burst(100A/150A) is the cheap way to go and they will not COOK. Yes i agree if you pay twice the money like my TP 6s 5000mha etreme they will last longer but you pay the price too

I was answering ea01bg’s question on using 2200 ma packs when I said they would cook.
But now I have a question, how are two 3S 5000 packs cheaper then one 6S 5000 pack?

fox222,
I'm not sure on the cost differance on the actual packs but in my case it would be the cost beniffit of using my existing charging equipment and (if they would fit / work) using the same packs in my Black Hawk 450.

I see what you are saying. That's a long time to wait for two packs to charge so you can fly once. The new Align 6S charger/balancer can be found for under $200. If you are on a budget get what you can to start but don’t skimp on batteries because they make the biggest difference in performance. I use FP 4900 packs and they barely get warm. I have setup & flown other peoples using cheaper packs and it would bog the head speeds just doing mild stuff and the packs would get hot and puff in less then 30 flights. The batteries are the MOST important component for a good setup. This is true on any heli.
It doesn’t matter what kind motor you buy if the batteries can’t deliver the power needed. The motor is an electric to mechanical power converter. If your batteries can only deliver x amount of watts, that’s all the motor can put out. I have seen many people buy a “hotrod†motor and see very little performance improvement because of there battery. I’ll charge up one of mine and loan it to them for one flight and there convinced. So don’t buy cheep batteries or you will be buying them again real soon.

fox222,
I'm using a poly 4 charger with 4 Hextronik balancers,I charge four at a time and with the balancers they all get balance charged. I do see the point about running the motors. I am leaning to the Herricane 550 its designed to run on 2 3 s packs. Its a bit smaller than the Trex 600 but I coould strach my current equipment out for another year and wait for battery prices to come down a bit mmore before making the jump up to the larger packs. i do think your right about the 600. I also need to upgrade my radio equipment, my dx6 wont cut it for a larger heli. [

You'd be surprised at what the DX6 is capable of. I fly my Hurricane 550 just fine with it. Doing mild 3D and stuff. The key is all in the set-up. I was also thinking about going to the Rex 600 but I had plenty of batteries from my 450 and my chargers are only capable of up to 5 cells so the Hurricane was the better choice for me. It was a whloelot cheaper than buying all new gear and it's cheaper to fix after a crash.

Is hooking 2 3 cell packs in series not exactly the same as 1 6cell pack. Just not hooked together at the factory ?

Your's will have two small plugs instead.
No Biggie at all. [8D]
Some ballancers will require an adapter to convert one small plug into a big plug.
Like my TP 1010c and 210v ballancer combo.
