RE: Let's see your work shop!

Some really great ideas here - I'll be building a new workshop in the next 60 days or so, and am itching to get started incorporating some of these ideas. The RC portion will be 30x32' with 10' eaves, roughly three times what I have now. I'm planning on several sections of shelving on one wall, fuse and wing racks on another, counters and cabinets on a third, and a T-shaped table in the middle.

OK I need a spouse like some of you, if she is letting you build 30x32 shop for r/c planes.....I would be moving all my stuff, not just my planes if I built a shop like that....oh that might not be a bad thing either

It's a win-win situation. The existing shop is attached to the house, and will become our office and exercise equipment area. That frees up a bedroom for guests and one for her sewing room.

She also is looking out for my long-term mental health - the old shop was so full I couldn't enjoy it! The actual building will be 30x44', with an internal wall to partition off 12x30' for my welding equipment and such.

Well that could be possible. What have you got to trade?

hehe....I was thinking the same thing. I think the only thing missing is a comfortable chair/couch for naps and a small frig for the beverages. My wife won't let me have the whole garage but she parks outside if it isn't too cold so I have no complaints. My water heater is in my garage too. Very nice open layout.

Cape Fear,

Sweet shop. Is that the Delta air filter on the ceiling? Are you satisfied with it and is it noisy??

Now I am really jealous. Although I have to say, that shop is way too clean. Has a car ever been in there. I think the overhead doors just open up to the outdoor dining area.
So now I have a plan on building a new shop within 5 years. I am currently designing it in AutoCad. Here is what I have so far.

WOW!!! Nice, and looks very clean too:D, Also, if space and codes permit, maybe you should think of putting a second story on it for a few bucks more. I wish I had, on mine. You could store your planes on the second level, provided you have good fan/air ventilation. Plastc components deteriorate(get brittle) quickly in attics(HEAT kills)! Good luck to you and 5 years is a great time to start the planning. A well planned and budgeted structure will make you happier when it is finished. Did you say how many square feet it is? Take care,,,,,,,, Scott.

Wow now I feel like a workshop GEEK....lol...I wonder if CRAZYRYAN will give me the prize. I'm lucky and have a very understanding wife. I built her the house she wanted and she let me have the garage, and sometimes the dog house.
ROCKETMAN: The Delta Air System works really good. It's the professional model not the kind you buy at Lowes or Home Depot for $200.00. It retails for $325.00 but I was able to find a brand new one on e-bay for $118.00 plus shipping so it cost me $168.00. On high it is kinda loud but it keeps the dust down.
WAROSS: Thats a cool Cad lay out. That will be really sweet when you get it done.
ELECTRISFLYGUY: The garage is 24'X28' and there is a familyroom abouve the garage already.

You guy's are to much. BUT it's now 4:53 Friday afternoon and I'm morning the loss of Jesus being that it's good Friday and the loss of my new Big Stick 40 which I just flew hard into a tree, And yes it's still in the tree because it's unclimbable and I don't have a ladder to reach.
BobZilla: Mum is the word with your wife as long as you don't tell mine I'll be having to sneak a new plane into the shop. See it's not to easy to sneak in a new plane if your shop is nice and neat because it gets noticed.
Vasek: No it's not a Waco, Starting from the bottom up, GP Super Stearnman, GP PT17, GP SlowPoke, The late GP Big Stick 40, GP Cap 580 and on top is an Explorer 40.

Quick> get out the fishing line spool with a weight tied to the end and UNDER hand the weight towards your plane OR use a fishing pole> cast it if you are good. Good luck. Scott.

Sling shot, fishing pole with line, hand full on 3/8 nuts. 100`ft of lite cord, 100ft of1/4 in rope..
Take nut tied to fish line, Place in sling shot [6.95 walmart] Take aim and shoot nut over branch plane is in. Carefully pull the lighter cord over the tree with fish line Tie cord to 1/4 in rope. Pull up over branch plane is in and tie off. Grab other end and shake the heck out the tree. Airplane coming down right at you. Run like hell.
I know for a fact this works, , lol Every time I fly , this tree retrival kit goes with me .

I say sling a small kitty up into the fuselage and let the fire department get them both down.

I tried a chainsaw once on a dead oak tree. Not good ! When the top of the tree hit the ground the plane exploded in to many, many little pieces. Lesson learned.
