RE: c-160 transall
Guess that would work but I'd be careful cutting away from the underbelly of the C-160. That's some of the strength in that thin fiberglass fuselage. Full scale retract pull the gear straight up not swing up. same for the nose gear. Not the normal gear retraction.

Airnondas: the gear looks great, bit how are they actually retracting? Do they swing or are they being pulled up. Kind of hard to tell. Does not look like much room for them to swing.

RE: c-160 transall
Hello, Just recently finished building and flying my C-160. My buddy started this thread because he bought one, and found problems. I paid $132 to the door off eBay, and am happily running 2 O.S. .25 LA's. I put mine up for the first time, and two left clicks of the ailerons was all it took for perfect flight. The problem with the elevator is the Horizontal stabilizer. The holes in the back of the fuselage are way off. The factory incidence is going to drive it in the ground. We believe that is why some people are crashing. They run out of up Elevator. I had to take a lot off the top of the factory slot to get the incidence to match the main wing. Take a look at my video on RCUVIDEOS.COM. Type in C 160 Transall. Mine is the camouflage, and my buddies is the white one that looks like the coast guard. Good luck. Sir FlyAlot (Jeff)

RE: c-160 transall
Hmmmm, mine didn't require any up elevator trim to fly great. Are you guys that are having trouble sure of correct CG? But then there are two different companies marketing these models. They appear to be the same but they may be different from the mold. Mine flew so easy it's almost scary, it's like flying a trainer but its a twin. I know the other one flying in my club has the same flying quality as mine does.

RE: c-160 transall
Mine has the foam wing so does the other one flying in our club. I dont have the box anymore so I'd have to dig out the instructions to see who the mfg was. But I cant remember any bad habits at all the C-160 has. Mine fell off the rack in my RC trailer and broke the wing outboard of the nacelle on one wing. I just epoxied it back and put a litlte fiberglass around the balsa wing skin, recovered it with monokote. Been flying it that way for a year and no problems.

RE: c-160 transall
Hello,
Finally got up enough nerve to do some testing and found out some very interesting results. For everyone that told me a 25 couldn't turn a 4 bladed prop fast enough to produce worthwhile thrust, well, you must have never met a broken in OS MAX 25 FX. I put 4 bladed 9x6 on those little monsters and the change in the aircraft was remarkable. Gone was the instantanious power curve that I think everyone is use to, including me, but the throttle response is so sloped now that flying is much more pleasurable, the plane flys and handles like a military high performance cargo aircraft, taxis well though moderately high grass and the takeoff roll is very predictable. My next test of these little monsters are a pair of 4 bladed 10x6s, Oh the thrust on the 9x6s was about 8 - 10 pounds, not sure if my fish scale is working correctly but it sure was more thrust than the planes 7 pound weight. I've got a 25LA from OS and I don't think it has anywhere near the torque or final output power. I don't think I would have tried these if I didn't have the 25FXs they really are little power houses.
Engine out is still very scarey as the yaw input by the one remaining engine is vercious but if you go to idle quickly and then reapply power and corrected rudder the plane seems to resond better than the two bladed version of engine out. I think because of the different power curves supplied by the props. anyway hope this helps some folks that have been wondering if or should they try.

RE: c-160 transall
HOWDY
ive flown my C160 a few times and it flies just great.
ive got 25 LAs for power no problem at all, with 9x6 props.
im going to try 9x4 to see if i can slow it down abit.
i fly off a grass field.
there are 2 oz header tanks in the naucelles and the supplied tanks inside the fuse attached to the wing, the fuel draw is no problem.
i would suggest that before your first flight (new airplane) to make sure you have lots of up elevator throw, because of the horizontal stabalizer postion could cause the airplane to pitch down.
on mine i just reajusted the elevator to comensate for this.
the outer wing panels that were supposed to be glued onto the wing,i didnt do that.
i glued the small aluminum tubes in to the wing and glued the larger tobes to the outer wing panels, then when i push the panels into the wing i use a 2/56 bolt to hold the panels on palce.
this way the airplanes has a very short wing span and easier to transport.
thats it for now.
take care

RE: c-160 transall
I went to the LHS and bought the DuBro Dual wheel axle it is better than the one that came with the kit. I stripped the set screw out with just a little torque and knew right away The other parts were going to be unusable for a twin. Better to speend a few bucks on small hardware than a whole lot on another kit.
FHD glad you found that the OS 25 LA's were strong enough Thats what we been using for 2 yrs here and they are more than enough. Where did you get 4 blade props? I'd like to try a set.

Jumpilot,
I got my 3 and 4 bladed props from Advantage Hobby, they have a very large selection and very fast turn around times. Their web site is www.advantagehobby.com or their phone is 1-866-321-2300.

RE: c-160 transall
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD827&P=0 Its an adjustable axle for retracts but if you look at it you will see how i used it. Just cut a short piece of 5/32 wire for the dual wheels. the hole that is used for retracts to adjust the hieght is the duall wheel mount and the axle hole is the the one that goes on the nosegear strut. Just have to do a little measuring to get it the right height. Remember to file a flat on the strut to keep it from twisting.

RE: c-160 transall
I'm putting together my C160. I have the CMP kit (built up wing). Am I reading this thread correctly that my stab may need readjusted due to the incidence being incorrect? My cave man instructions indicate 78 mm CG, could it be that this number is incorrect causing it to be very nose heavy? I'm running 25FX's on mine. Appreciate your help, Jerry.
