Default 300 LX

There was a thread for the 300 special. So I thought I would start one for the 300 LX. Whos on the list to get one and how do plan on setting it up. I've got a brison 3.2 for mine. JR radio, JR 8611 rudder, 5945s, fromeco batteries. Thats pretty much like everyone else. Must be the way to go. Anyone know how many LX's Tom had to sell? I got on the list in Feb. for mine. Has been a long patient wait.

Tom told me he had 30 LX models to sell. I ordered one back in lat Jan or early Feb. I plan on using 8411's on the elevators and ailerons, two 8611's on the rudder. One match box for the evevators and one for the rudder servos. All this mess being feed by a two 2400 mAh NiCAD batteries and controled by a 10X. I don't have an engine for this plane yet. I have learned the hard way about not having enough engine. I plan on building the entire airplane and then based on the weight I'll chose an engine. If a 50cc will do the job then it will be a DA50R. If more is needed then the Brison 4.2 is in order. I'll just have to see once the plane is finished.

ANY NEWS TOM ????

i'm with backafter30. From everything that I have read the lightweight 50's are gonna have plenty of power with the DA having the slight advantage. I think you could save some weight by going with one 8611 which is more than enough and some lithium batteries. I also think you can eliminate one matchbox by mixing your elevators with your 10x. Ive got the JR 662 so i have to use a matchbox. No way around that one. New radio is on the wish list. Just my .02 worth.

Charlie,

As far as the lithium batteries are concerned I'll pass. I'm not a fan. I will stick with good old fashion NiCAD's thank you. I'm actually downsizing and getting out of the 35% - 40% airplanes. Too much money flying through the sky for me to be comfortable with and have fun any more. The 50cc class airplane is perfect for me. About $2000 for everything, and I'm comfortable with that. I lost a big bird in late October 03 due to a left wing failure during a very mild climb. It was the manufacturers fault and they replaced the plane for free but it was not pretty watching it hit the ground. If it was my fault I could live with it. I know that don't make sense but...............

Using the 10x to mix two separate elevator channels is very easy but not all that it is cracked up to be. No matter what you do there will be a slight difference in speed between the two elevator halves and no way to mix it out. I've used that method on several planes. We have the same effect when we use two different channels for the ailerons but it is much harder to detect that difference because the ailerons are moving in different directions. When you mix two rudder servos it is almost no existent because you link them together. I just like the match boxes for ease of synchronizing the servos. It's a little easier.

Good points! The transmitter thing verses matchboxes makes sense. Ive got a JR662 and am considering a new radio. Was thinking of the 8103 just for the fact you could mix the elevators with the radio. Makes sense.

Charlie,

The 8103 is a very nice radio. If you can wait, and I have no idea when it will be here in the U.S is the 9x. However if you really want to do some hair pulling mixing then spring for a 10x. I've had mine about 18 months and love it. The transmitter will almost fly the plane without your thumbs. I switched from brand "F" and have never look back, OK maybe a peek The 10x is an amazing piece of equipment. The nice thing for you is that you can just buy the transmitter and module, then continue to use the rest of your radio equipment. The only POS that JR supplies with the 10x is the charger. It does not put out enough juice and IMHO they should not even put it in the box.

Hey Mike

Haven't heard of the 9x before and the 10x is a little more than I want to spend on a radio. Are they using this radio over seas somewhere? Do you have any websites concerning this radio? I like the 662 but I wish I had expo on the rudder. The 6102 seems like a deal and has expo on the rudder but doesn't have the ability to mix two elevator servos. But your point about that and the matchboxes makes sense. Decisions, decisions. Guess I don't absolutely need a new radio yet so maybe I'll wait and see if the 9X materializes in the states.

Charlie,

Check the Radio Manufacturers Support Forum. There has been quite a bit posted on the new 9x radio system. I don't remember ever seeing anything about a U.S. release date. Maybe Danny from Horizon can shed some light on the subject for you. It looks like a nice transmitter.

Here's the links for almost all the sites I visited to find my parts to make my ultimate 50cc gasser. I can't go bigger for quite a while, so why not go 'best?'

www.troybuiltmodels.com
www.swbmfg.com
www.airwildpilotshop.com
www.wildharerc.com
www.desertaircraft.com
www.wingtote.com

If anyone wants a full listing of parts or prices, please send me a PM and I'll hook you up with my Excell file spreadsheet that has it all.[X(] I also have pictures of all the parts as presented by their manufacturers. Can you tell I've been waiting for a while for my plane to "arrive?" These ships that carry these planes move too slow!

FlyinTiger, looks like you did your homework. I have been trying to decide whether to order the LX or the Extra Special now for about 2 weeks. My girlfriend says I am wishy washy. I am leaning towards the LX but it kinda concerns me what it says about having to use a little bit of mixing on it. I have a 9C but have never had any good experienced pilots really show me what to do. I have a NIB Taurus TS52 engine sitting here just begging to be installed on a plane. I think I will go ahead and order the LX when I get up on 2/15. Just get it done with. Quit thinking about it. Spend that money.

Well, I forgot about this thread and I thought it was worth an update since I am VERY happy with my setup. See my still developing review under the "User Product Reviews" forum.

The DA-50 has run flawlessly out of the box, I set the needles as perscribed in the instructions and am 1.5 gallons through my Lawnboy 32:1 mix. Power to spare and easy starts, no problems.

The DS8611's on all the surfaces gives me instant deflection and plenty of power...tight knife edge loops no problem with only one 8611 on the rudder (pinwheels?).

With the carbon fiber wing tube, stab tube and spinner, three 2350mah Li-Ion batteries and Graphtec CF tailwheel assembly (all from Troy Built Models by the way www.troybuiltmodels.com ) I was amazed when this plane came out UNDER 16 pounds. Balances right at 3" back from the leading edge at the wingtips, batteries and receiver in front of the rudder servo which is in the rear hole on the tray. I was sweating the balance, but this is perfect...slow landings, no snapping, hands off inverted and upright flight. I am very happy. [8D]

I wll soon be adding some airfoiled CF SuperGear to lighten it up even more! www.rcsupergear.com is where you can find the products, Brian is working on finishing up the exact replacement Extra gear he is making from some stock Wild Hare aluminum gear...should retail for about $55 or so.

Edit: Here's the prized Extra with my wife and her Raptor 50SE...what a blast!

I can vouch for that, as I am the one that sent him my aluminum gear! Hopefully I'll shed about a pound with the carbon figer gear and carbon fiber wing tube/tail tube. I'll weigh them all and report my findings when Brian sends the gear back.
