Got my NEW Edge

Well, got the new Edge on Wednesday and dove straight in that night getting the engine mounted and what not. Glued all of the hinges on Thanksgiving and sealed the hinge gaps Friday. I would've gotten more done, but my parents were up and wanted to drive up to Ft. Collins to see the apartment. Drove back Saturday and all I got done was mounting one switch for the ignition and a few horns installed.

Hey Tom, for the A-nuts on the rocket city horns, do they need to situated with the flat sides parallel to the motion of travel or do they need to be perpendicular, or does it even matter which direction they point as long as they're tight against the surface?

On the Ultimate the A nuts go flat against the elevator surface.
Do not use them on the Edge, they are not needed because of the way our hardpoints work.

So, if I thread the studs into the hardpoints, I don't need to use the A nuts? I have the 3" studs in the ailerons and a 4" in the rudder. I got some more work done it, just installing the aileron servos. There's something different between the two wing panels, can anyone see what it is?

It will make the geometry a little different for each one but that can be tweaked out by changing the length of the control rod and adjusting the horn height. No plane is perfect and this has to be done anyway. Or just put the stuff together and fly it, probably won't matter on ailerons unless you are a precision flyer. On elevators it's a different story. They have to be matched mechanically or the two halves don't move in perfect synch.

That's right, the horns aren't the same distance from the wing root. Will it affect anything?

Well, I got the elevator servos installed while I was watching the third period of the Avs game. Since I don't need the A nuts, should I get some washers and just a regular hex nut to put next to the surface like on the 120 Edge or just leave it as is?

Wow Ben, you're making some great progress. I am anxious to see how this compares to my WH Extra Special. Looks like you might be ready to fly in a few weeks??? (If the weather cooperates).

Yeah, I picked up their Ultimate to since they were on sale. Should be a sweeeeeettttttt plane. I did a little more work tonight. It took longer than it wanted it to, but I just had to figure out something for a project tomorrow that I'm just going to throw together. Anyways, I put the tank together and got everything plumbed. Also installed and set the throttle servo. I may have to start over to put less throw in it. Or, I may take this arm off to use for the choke servo and then use the new one on the throttle. Either way, I have to run by the hobby store because I lost one of the retaining clips for the DuBro E/Z Connectors.

This is my first gasser to. The velcro I got from Home Depot. It's around the fasteners. Just ask the clerk for velcro for keeping hoses together and such. It's a great price to. A lot cheaper than the Fromeco straps I was going to buy and when I can cut it to the length I need. Well... provided it's longer than I need it to be. I think I got a dozen for a couple bucks to.

I worked on the Edge yet again today. I was a zombie after I got done with everything so I figured a little R&R was deserved. I went to Hobbytown to pick up some more E/Z Connectors and I get to return tomorrow to get more. I keep loosing that little snap retainer when I'm trying to put it on. It goes flying across the room and I can't find it. Anyone know if you can get those at a hardware store? I might go by there tomorrow and look first. I cut and glued the carbon fiber pushrods and I'll have pics of those tomorrow. Then I added some CF tubing over the throttle pushrod which took the bending out of it so I get good resolution now. Also installed a choke servo and the rudder servo. On a different note, how does my method of securing the ignition signat wire look? Is it good or do I need to do something different? And what do I need to do with the ignition wire? I don't want it rubbing against the muffler.

I have had the same problem with EZ connectors out at the field. Because I have a little SUV (RX 300) I need to remove my H stabs everytime I fly. I bring spare sullivan golden connector safety clips and they seem to work fine. If all else fails I dab just a drop of CA on the clevis side and hold it all together with a small zip tie. The best solution is to just bring extra. I would have to have that .05c part bring down a $4k airplane.
