The easy way to extend it is to get some 3/4" oak dowel from Home Depot or Lowes. Cut 4 piecses the same length (3/4" if you are starting with 3" standoffs) and drill a 1/4" holer down the middle.
If you don't have a table or cutoff saw, cut up some 1/4" ply into 1" squares. Laminate 3 pieces together into a 3/4" thick piece, drill a hole in the center.
Or buy a piece of 1xanything Oak. 1X material is actually 3/4" thick. Cut 4 pieces 1" square, drill a hole you are done.

I was flying mine yesterday, 60* weather
My friend asked if I could do more than one flop at a time, with the LS-50 I couldn't quite get a flop just not enough power,(waterfall is the real name I think). His WH Extra with a DA 50 can get one but it seams to fall out of it after that, well the Sukhoi with a Brillelli 366GT can do at least ten in a row, I'm new to this and chicken out early.

I made my spacers this way ... bought a 4' length of Oak dowel 7/8" from local hardware store. cut 4 pieces to just over 1/2 ( you may need longer ) with a coping saw . Since I don't have a lathe I chucked up my dremel cut-off wheel in my bench top drill press and set the height to skim just a tad off the the height that I cut the shortest one to. since the cut off wheel is basically a grinding wheel and not toothed it more or less cut and sanded at the same time. I then turned over the dowel and ran the other side through without changing the height of the cutoff wheel ( it still took a very fine amount off ) . once all four were done I fine tuned the height with some 150 grit sand paper on a flat surface. I ended up with 4 pieces 1/2" perfect when run through my caliper, which was close enough for what I needed

I use a powered miter saw and mark a line on the bed for the length needed. I can usually get four nearly identical lengths by cutting 6-7 pieces.

ha!, I live in a one bedroom apartment in good old crowded SoCal, I get in enough trouble with the small compressor and tabletop drill press I have on my balcony... I dont have room for anymore junk here hehe.
I have a small building area in my bedroom and the plane is usually on my bed while I am working on it

Then you can just slam the stock in and cut it off. I make quantities of standoffs and mounts this way all exactly the same.

I lost touch for a bit on this one.It is now a 87 inch since released from the 85 inch?
Has it undergone any other changes? I like the new schemes, and my girlfriend agrees (which helps)
Are there any good vids, besides the original Honda clip?
Thanks in advance

From what I have noticed, the only changes are the increase in wingspan and a cross brace on the landing gear. You also get wing bags as standard when you order the plane.

Great job customizing your SU-26!!! That's a fresh idea...and it works well with that aircraft without major changes to the covering.
(Looks like your coffee table is jjuuuusssttt big enough for that plane!) [sm=biggrin.gif]

Love it! Now if Tom would make one in Sam Adams colors I'd have to get another one!
This picture reminds me of a bar I went to in a previous life. Their bumper sticker read.... Jeramy's where beer is just for breakfast anymore!

That's what I like to use, I never understood the pine dowel thing, getting 4 EXACTLY the same thickness is tough.

oak is a hardwood like maple, Butternut, Chestnut, Walnut and Cherry while pine ( white and eastern white ) is quite a bit softer. Other varieties of pine can be a bit harder ( southern pine, longleaf ) but still fall short of Oak on the Janka scale.
basically pine will be prone to compression and probably splitting

What is the difference between using oak vs pine dowels? Is oak just better wood or something?
I normally will place a strong washer between the engine and the mounting dowel to further reduce the possibility of compression.

HI
Happy new year to all!!
Have been reading this thread from start to finnish, lots of information!!!!!. I have been flying for a couple of years now and Iam just getting into my first 50cc plane. I have been recommended this model.
I cannot seem to find a video of these flying and most of all landing, some take offs but no landings can anyone help please.
It is a toss up between the Wild Hare sukhoi 29% and the Edge 540 v2, will use a DA50 etc
Can anyone tell me how do these models land.
Kind regards
Lee

This is a link to a video, you can also click the link in Tom's Wildhare site that takes you to this video.

If you haven't bought the DA50, you might want to consider a DL50. I don't know the address for the Australian dealer, but you could look in the DL50 thread in the gas forum. Tom sells them also.

Thanks for that guys, would you consider the sukhoi floats more than the edge and is it prehaps a slower flying model considering its shape, I tend more towards controlled pattern flying rather than 3D.
Oh bloody hell !!!! decisions decisions, just dont want to get it wrong???
Thanks for the link to the video but still no landings??
Will check out the DL50, is the back up service good?
Sorry for the 100 questions but where I live theres no one around to bounce ideas off

I have the DL-50 and so do other guys at my club and so far so good when it comes to service. I ordered it from DL Engines Australia [link=http://www.dlenginesaustralia.com]www.dlenginesaustralia.com[/link] and they have really been quick to reply to any of queries and orders. Apparently Hobby Man in Vic are also official agents. However having said this, the support from DA Australia is hard to beat and may be very important to you since you say that you do not have anybody to bounce ideas off and they are the agents for Wild Hare in Australia.
Wild Hares are most probably the most popular single brand of aircraft at my club (+- 8 planes) closely followed by Comp-ARF.
Cheers
