Thats crazy, why would he want to sell it? The differences really affect a heli pilot more than an airplane guy.
I flew the Sukhoi again today for like 8-9 flights. I made it to the field today around 7:30am and it was dead calm. The tempature was around 30 degrees but I bungled up pretty good. I was finally able to dial in the plane and get a feel for what it needed. Added a little more right thrust, finalized what seems to be the best CG position and pinpoint what type of mixes I needed for proper knife edge flight. Also made up some special mixes for downlines and throttle trimming ( I like to use the side sliders to add or take away minor amounts of throttle at Idle, sort of like a proportional Idle up switch). After all of this I directed my attention to the DL50, I made a few adjustments to the needles to get a nice clean running engine and setup the throttle curve a little better for a more linear feel.
All of this went pretty well while using the 9303, I never really spent to much time using there programming menus as I am a new owner of JR equipment. I can honestly say that the time spent with the 9CAP made it easy to transition over to this radio. In my opinion the 9CAP is an easier radio to use and to learn how to program well but the 9303 has some neat features which can help you fine tune things a little better. The big difference for me was how the controls felt using the 2.4GHz system. Even when I did the range check from approx 100' away I can see there was little lag between my stick movements and the surfaces, and this really showed when flying around . Everything felt on point like as if I added newer or faster servos. The 5955 on rudder was the quickest, but even the old 5625's had a different feel. I dont know if it was the 2048 resolution or something else but It felt good.
The other big thing about using the spectrum with my new Wild Hare was the security that I felt, I didnt have to look over my sholder and be concern ablout who just pulled up and what channel they were on. (once you have been shot down you never feel the same). Also after checking things out with the data logger I was able to climb to unseen heights without the worry of going into failsafe. The data logger was posting fades on all three recievers at around 30-50 and no frame losses or holds in a 10 minute flight.
Hopefully tommorow will be another windless day and I can get out and enjoy this bird a little more.

Sounds like you had a great time and really enjoyed the model.Good luck to you
COuld you please tell me what you mean by the "fades and no frame losses". Please
excuse my ignorance but iam totally unaware of what you are saying, but it sounds interesting
I have just converted to 2.4 with my JR 9X v2 by takeing out the module and fitting the Extreme link module
all seems to be ok so far, are these systems as good??. The reciever is very simple and has only one small reciever instead of 2 like the specktrum set up
Anyway tell us more??

The R921 receiver supports a little gizmo called a data logger. The receiver send information about the performance of the radio link to the data logger so you can find out what was working and what was not.
A fade means that one of the receivers had an error in 1 frame of at least 1 bit. Since there are multiple receivers as long as at least one receiver gets the frame correctly no harm is done, but it's nice to know if one receiver is having a lot of errors.
A frame loss occurs when all of the receivers have an error in the same frame. In this case teh frame is discarded and the servos remain in the same place they were from the most recent good frame.
A hold occurs when there are 40 frame losses in a row. IN this case the servos move to the programmed fail safe point, which was established when you bound the receiver to the transmitter.
Knowing that you had 30 or 40 fades and no frame losses means that your radio was working very well indeed.

How much up did you have to mix for rudder elevator? Do you use a straight mix or a slope?

I have a friend that had a report on thruput speed of radios, the Specktum(sp?) was the fastest something like 20ms, the 9CAP was the slowest of the 10 radios tested at about 200ms. I looked, I have a 9CAP, when I had the elevator on ch2 & 8, I thought I could see the lag, I put a Y in ch2 and reprogramed the 8ch servo to revese rotation and the lag was gone.

Good explanation Tom, I am very happy with my setup and aircraft and hope to get some video footage on the next good day.
All the 9CAP's have that problem and it shows up incrementaly when you go for 3D throws and don't have your servo geometry set up correctly or your using a lot of subtrim while increasing your endpoints.
So far my rudder mix is only setup for low to mid rates at cruising speed. I always use a sloped mix because flying a slow high alpha knife edge pass usally requires a lot more mixing than a high speed pass. My setting are 4% at the low stick position and 12 percent on 3D rates, but I have dialed in the 3D rates as of yet.

Tom, do you have a "storefront" where a local resident can make purchases in person. I need servos (some of the 985s and batteries) and it seems a shame to have you mail stuff when you are located 20 minutes from my home. Also, my wife ordered one of these for me with the Honda graphics in Dec. I'm taking my series 7 exam on the 11th of Feb. and would love to celebrate passing with a new plane. Will they be in by then?

I do not have a storefront. I operate from home, we have a substantial warehouse building on the property. But if you let me know in advance what you need so I can have it ready you are welcome to stop by and pick it up.
The Honda Sukhois will be in the country tomorrow and should be here in about 10 days.

I let a VERY talented 17 yr old friend of mine , CJ, fly the Sukhoi today.
I think this video clears up any questions of what this plane is capable of !!!
I got in 2 trimming flights before this was shot and BOY... does this plane feel LIGHT in the air... and almost lands itself !
Enjoy,
Jim

Hearing your engine run in the breakin video you did had me to give Tom a call and order the canister for my DL. Know with seeing that vid and the tremendous power that engine puts out im know I did the right thing.
I have to throw a vid up myself once I get a camera again. Really good flying though, shows the stability in upright and inverted harrieres, also the nnice and slow landings the sukhoi can dish out with that much wing area.

[:-] Hey guys....been reading these threads for a while now and I am in the process of building the 50cc Sukhette. I am having a few problems with the install of the landing gear.....seems that opening the holes for the screws will not allow the gear to sit flush with the plywood plate....any suggestions?

Hi Tom ... When the alum. gear is slipped into the side of the fuse until the single hole lines up in the middle of the fuse the other 2 holes in the gear are not touching the plywood plate because the sides of the fuse above the gear is in the way. Should that opening just be made larger?
#694
you may also have to open up a couple of the holes above each half of the gear to get it to line up properly also. some people are putting in doublers of some sort, not sure if it's necessary though.

I've flown it a lot with the standard mount and no trouble.

I hardened my mount with ca. After about 40 flights the screws loosened that I had loctite on while at the field. Tightened them up, CA'd them babies too, and all is still tight over 100 more flights later!

Has anybody produced a video of this Suk with the TOC 53? Hearing and seeing lots of the DL, starting to wonder if I made the right choice going with the TOC.[X(]
