RE: Sig Kougar Build
Tojeiro 50s by Protech is about the same dimensions and size and shape as a Kougar. The gear is different and it is a tail dragger.

Has anyone assembled one and does it fly similar to a Kougar?
Not being a builder I am looking for a Kougar replacement.

RE: Sig Kougar Build
I don't think it would be much like a Kougar. Not to say it wouldn't be a good plane, but it's made quite a bit different.
The Kougar isn't too hard of a build in my opinion. Especially if you leave off the turtle deck canopy and cowl.
That said this might be a little closer, but I havn't owned one yet.

RE: Sig Kougar Build
Thanks. I read the entire thread several times and believe the F-20 is a very close to a slightly larger Kougar copy.
Kougar
span 50"
weight 5 1/2 - 6 lb.
wing area 540 sq. in.
wing loading - 23.25 oz. per sq. ft.
F-20 Tigershark - All wood, trike gear, ARF for $139.
span - 56.7"
Weight - 5.7 pounds - probably closer to 6.5 pounds.
Wing area - 687 sq. in.
wing loading - 21.8 oz/sq. ft.
The additional wing area probably helps my aging flying skills.

RE: Sig Kougar Build
Finally finished my second Kougar. I built the first one in 1979, and it's been my favorite plane ever since. OS .46AX with an 11-6 MA prop. Very stable and easy to fly. Couldn't quite stomach the USAF markings (retired Army), so the trim scheme isn't really complete yet. Gotta do something with that tail!

RE: Sig Kougar Build
Why not the F-16 varient for the tail?
I have a NIB Kougar kit that was the first and only RC kit my wife ever bought me. Along with a new K&B .40. Still have the engine, although it has flown many other planes for me.
Is there a Kougar club like there is for the Kadet? I have one of those also along with the Sig 1/4 scale Cub.
Thanks.

RE: Sig Kougar Build
My plans show this as an option. They are in storage right now; when I get them out , I will make a copy to send you. I will also look for some pictures I have of the Kougar built that way. Good luck.

hi submikester
have a kougar kit for many years and hae have never sheeted a foam wing.
what is the precedure for using the spray adhesive? sounds like easier and simpler
than fiber glassing. any advice and suggestion greatly appreciated.
this will probably be a winter project if I get the get-up-and-go and feel adventous,
is that spelled right?
thanks

PT 19, I used the old version of 3M 77 when I built it, which was quite a few years ago. I sprayed on a light coat on the foam and the balsa sheeting. By the way, I did not use the balsa sheeting that came with the kit as I don't like edge gluing all those narrow little sheets together so I bought some wing sheeting from Balsa USA which made life a bit easier when it came time to sheet the wing.
I don't know about the version of 3M 77 spray on but some people have had success with it.
Maybe some other people will chime in on this matter. As far as epoxy goes I would use West Systems as it is not like those thick gooey hobby versions sold form the LHS. West Systems is a long cure epoxy (24 hr.) and is quite thin in consistency. It does not take much to do the job. As a matter of fact most of it will be removed from the wing panels and leaving only what appears to be a slightly tacky surface.
Others please add your own thoughts on this.
Mine is powered by a Scorpion 3026-10 outrunner on 5S lipo and 10X5 APCE prop. I used a 10X7 in the past but it was drawing way too many amps and actually melted the heatshrink around the speed control.
Good luck with yours.

Hello
Don't be intimidated by the foam wing covering precess it is really a easy thing to do. If I may make a few suggestions.
be sure to fit the sheets edges properly by sanding them straight, them hold them together with tape on one side and lightly apply glue. wipe off any excess, too much glue just makes a mess.
the 3m 77 contact cement works fine and is fast but un-forgiving as it it grabs hold instantly so take time to assure your sheets are in place before laying them down, once together that's it you cannot take them apart. you may want to read up on the technique.
I,ve built and flown all of these birds and they are good flyers but not 3D flyers...................Good luck.

I used gorilla glue on mine. Might not be the lightest way to go,but it gives you plenty of time.
Just spray the foam lightly with water in a spray bottle (water activates gorilla glue) . Smear the glue around the skin with a credit card.
Pile a bunch of weight on it like the pictures at the front of this thread.

I don't do foam Bill so the wing would definitely be built up. Nobody has stepped forward with the offer of any plans though. May have to just "wing it" athough I would like to at least have a copy of the airfoil used on the original.

Hi, I have a NIB Kougar. If I can find it in storage, I will, at least, scan the airfoil for you. If I can I will scan the plans also, but, I think some of the parts are on printwood.
Sincerely, Richard
