Be sure to skip to the end and check out the custom hardware he build to hold the prop.

Chief flight instructor at our club so I will still get a little stick time. Nothing like the 10 hour days of near solid flying I often had though. Still, enjoy building planes so I can do that. Still get plenty of engine work too. Problem is so many newbies flying dust buster foamies and electrics. Soon even instructing may lose its satisfaction as well.

Build, build build !

BTW, I did enjoy the video link. Sure beats buying off the shelf!

Look for an FA-115, it fits the same footprint as the FA-91S, FA-80 and FA-65. ( 2-stroke 60 size mount) And, it is only 2mm taller and 1mm longer than the FA-91S. More power than the FA-100 too.

FA-100 is an oddball size. Much taller, (7mm) than the FA-115 and requires a wider mount.

The only proprietary parts are the crank and the piston. Everything else is common with other engines.

So I just installed a new set of rc bearings in my Saito 72 and there is a little slop in the main bearing. I can hear it. I wiggle the crankshaft from the front and it sounds like it’s coming from the main bearing. My gut tells me this is unacceptable. Should I order some higher quality boca bearings or go with what I have? Thoughts?

That is the very reason I don't use RCBearings, I ordered a set about 15 years ago or so for my friends Webra SilverLine 61 and I think the new ones were looser than ones I removed. Never again did I do that.

Boca Bearings for me only.

What level did you buy and from whom?
I got some from an eBay seller that were horrible. Tossed them all but did get a full refund.

That sounds like a good idea. I'm nowhere near needing the power plant so I'll have time to look.

Time to build an engine stand to get these babies broken in. They are a perfect for for the B-25, just need to get some props for them.

Well...I bought the high speed version off of eBay. 🙁

The seller said he was a rc bearings distributer. Basically, they’re crap.

I just found a Boca 6902RS in my stash that’s that same size as the main bearing. It’s a sealed bearing so I’ll pry off both seals and install it. The front bearing seems ok to me.

Wow,

I will let him know he just got a very bad review!
Never had a problem with the bearings or the service. I always assess clearances before installing new bearings.

Still buy most bearings locally in name brand boxes. Some folks don't want to pay that price though

I'm having trouble with two new sets of RC bearings. One new front for my 82 leaked severely and Paul replaced it. The new one is barely better. A new rear bearing on a 62 has slop in it after only 10 tanks of fuel. I'm convinced that RC bearings aren't what they used to be a few years ago; those I have never had a problem with. Now today I'm hearing whirling noises from the 82 when flipping the prop. Looks the the 82 rear is going bad already!! I have never had a problem with the Bocas I have used. Hmmmm, I guess if the bocas are still good these days I'll start buying from them.

So Gary, make that three bad reviews. Tell Paul whatever you like. He can come here and tell me how full of #$%^ I am but I'm tired of tearing down engines to replace bearings after 10 tanks of fuel.

Well I don’t mean to bad mouth anyone. Not sure if the eBay seller is Paul or not but he did respond to my question and shipped my bearings promptly. I can’t complain about the service but the product is not good quality.

I guess I’ll stick with Boca from here on out.

Most the time Paul is quick to respond. He forgot about me for 3 weeks after multiple emails one time but everyone can forget from time to time. No bad marks for customer service for me. I dont bad mouth people either, just products or customer service.

One thing I didn’t mention before is that the inner race on the new main bearing seems to be slightly narrower as well. The reason I say that is when I put the bearing on the crankshaft the outer race would rub on the counterweight. The original bearing wouldn’t do that. Also, in the picture you may notice the inner race is a littler thinner than the original bearing.

Yeah, that's a no go. I'll be checking for that when I tear down my 82 for the bearing change. Thanks for the heads up.

Gorgeous engine acdii! What's tight, the muffler clearance? Use a 90° adaptor maybe.

I'm thinking I might make an exhaust ring with dual outlets for this. The trick will be the fitting to the cylinder.

What trick do you need? Flanged pipe and nut? An elbow or tee?

No more cheap bearings for me. It’ll be OEM or Boca from here on out. Lesson learned.

If the inner races are not the same thickness as the originals, that is why your crankshaft has play. The shaft is not able to draw down on the bearings resulting in end play and that allows the shaft to move about.

They aren't necessarily junk bearings, thay are the wrong bearings.
