More The shot of Mitch and the Laser 200 having a near miss was actually pretty close. I couldn't have gotten that shot if I tried. It was pure blind luck.

And the last bunch of them. I'll get more tomorrow. Most of them (if not all of them) will be taken from the static Judging table. I won't have time to walk out and take any. but I will on Saturday, and Sunday (maybe).

Bill, those are some nice looking pics it looks as if your keeping yourself busy. I have a question thou what kind of plan it that on post 6156 (P-1), I have never seen anything like that. As like everybody else says keep the pics coming it is nice to see the pride and craftsmanship that others put into there planes.

If you happen to see the guy that owns the plane on post 6154 (P-9) bottom left tell him that he has an awesome Airplane[sm=shades_smile.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif], and that it is the same plane that they have in the new movie that is in German theatres called "The Red Baron" if I was to build a German aircraft that would be the one I'd build over the DR-1. The Fire Ball airplane is nice also I really like the details that the guy put into the ammo trays in the wings [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif].

I'll be seeing Dave in the morning. I'll be able to get you some close-ups, and probably some in flight shots of the Albatross. This model has well over 100 flights, and is smooth as silk in the air. The detailing is outstanding, and you should see the hand crafting in the Mercedes engine. It's a work of art. We used his tent for Static Judging today, and I could have reached behind me and touched it all day long. Dave is a member of Team Futaba, and is a great modeller, and a nice guy all around.

On some of the Waco's I see the rudder extend out over the top of the vertical stabilizer and on others I see it go off in some what of a 45 deg angle and others are just like all the models that everybody builds. Just to show what I am talking about I added a few pics to refer to. I was just wanting to find out-out of curiousity because I haven't seen anybody build the models with those kind of rudders and vertical stabilizers. I was also considering building a set for my 1/5 scale with the 45 deg angle on the rudder.

On a different note, you inquired about a set of plans for the Albatross, and I did ask Dave Johnson about them. I have his e-mail address for you, and he said that if you would contact him, he would give you the downloads to be able to produce them.
About Waco stuff, Mike Barbee posted identical flight scores for round 3 and 4. He should do very well indeed.

P1 & P2 are of UPF-7 Wacos with a different fin and rudder shape distinctive to the U/Y/ZPF series (and a few more including some cabin types). P3 is a 1987 YMF-5 Classic (ser # 5) that was built pretty much per the 1935 plans by Waco Classic Aircraft Corporation with newer and stronger material. The 1st 36 (ser #s 37-40 are being held in reserve for future Classics) were built with the straight rudder. From about #41 up, many changes (300 or so) were incorporated, including the "45°" air balance on the rudder as Bill pointed out, and are designated as YMF-5 Supers. Many of these changes include stronger steel for the frame, a longer fuselage (6" longer - 2" in the front cockpit with a larger door, 4" in the rear cockpit), a wider cockpit (about 4" ), longer main and tail gear and better avionics to name a few. If you want to build a particular 1930’s Waco or an YMF Classic such as NC 14081, you will be correct with the Pica/AMA Plans as drawn. To correctly build an YMF Super in 1/5th scale, the fuse will need to be extended about 1-7/32” and widened about 25/32”, mostly in the cockpit area and widening each former required.
If you browse thru the National Waco Club F3/F5 photo album, you will find a few YMF/UMFs with different air balanced rudders such as NC 14132, usually a short, narrow balance that does not go all the way to the front of the V-fin. This was either done at the factory or a retrofit by the owner, easy enough as everything was hand built and each plane could be customized. If you look at all of the photos of NC 14132, you will notice that it statrted with a straight rudder that was changed to a "balanced " rudder as it was recovered or repainted.

Okay, Here are the rest of the photo's that I was able to get. Some are not of Waco's but then again, some are. Bob Gonzalez' Genesis is holding it's own in the flying portion, but has quite a few issues that hurt his chances in scale outline. The Wing tip cross section from about the 4th rib from the tip outward are far from prototypical profile. This is a glaring error, and the lack of the lower wing to forward fuselage fairing does not help the situation either. He did make the correction to the rudder shape at the top for this year, and that did help him in the scoring of the model. It is a great flying model, and Frank Noll flys it in a great prototypical manner. Mike Barbee has had some excellent flights, as has Charlie Nelson.
