Masterace,
You should have it tomorrow. It when out monday.
Skidbo and Zagibond,
What pack you guys running?
I know if you change the shape of the hole in the ply bulk head from oval to more of a rectangle. 1320s slip right through and can be held to the top of the lower wing useing velcro.
I changed the shape on the second run so the guys using the 2212/34 can move the pack back!

Thanks Mike and Skidbo.
The engine bulkhead eventually gave in and the motor broke loose. Since I had to cut the remaining balsa off, I ended up moving the motor back about a half an inch by shortening the frnt of the fuselage. I epoxied the hell out of it. it flew great this morning. Very stable and crisp.
I still can't seem to hover it so I am taking it to the field on Sunday to get one of the good pilots have a go at it.

This is truley an awesome plane! I built mine a few months ago and have over 40 flights on it. The HellRaiser is by far my favorite aircraft to date, even though I am new to the hobby(8 months) and have now a roster of ten planes. It handles great and even my first time up only required a few clicks of trim to get it flying level. I equipt mine with the AXI 2212/34 , Jeti 18a Advanced controler and Kokam 3cell 1500 battery,10/ 3.8 prop, it is quite front heavy which is why its need for a tailored landing is required. Many have stated there reason for crashes were the landing and for myself I bring it in low at half speed and right before touch down I slowly but gradually cut back on throttle till it naturally lands itself. Hope this helps some and sorry for the long reply its my first time on the forum and have received tons of good advice from all who participate. I did have one crash when I lost it behind the only tee in my flight zone and it snaped perfectly in half when it hit the top of someones garage. Once repaired about 10 minutes was up and flying and still in trim!!! Good luck to all as I highly recommend this plane though I have not taken it to its 3D limits.

Good luch 3Ding with a nose heavy plane.
Mine snapped in half. I glued it back together and slipped the battery through the bulkhead. It flies a lot better with the CG further back.
Mine is looking pretty ragged and getting heavy with glue. I burned out ny 2212/34. Tried to spin a 13 inch prop at 6000 feet. Also didn't provide enough cooling holes in the new firewall. So now I will probably go to a shocky with a smaller motor and batteries. I will use my bigger batteries in my Zagi.

[&:]Not sure what you are doing to this fine plane. I land in grass all the time with no problems. This plane fly's like a dream. Mine weighs only 12.3oz. with a thunderpower 3s860mah pack. I am using the axi 2208/34 with a apc 10x3.8 prop. The plane has tons of hovering power and does all 3d stuff. I can hardly wait for the indoor flying season to start. [8D][8D][8D]

How can you break the wings flying 3d...the plane is barely moving or stationary. It sounds like your nose diving it with power and pulling up in a stiff wind. Don't know anything about the hellraiser, but I suspect that would fold an 3d foamy?

Break the wings? Yesterday I had an issue with one of the soldering jobs I did on one of the engine wire connectors. After about 10 min of flight the engine just quit. I immediately pitched nose down (straight down), hoping for enough airspeed for one last flare. It smacked really hard! Luckily it hit pretty level and only bent my modified gear struts a little. A quick solder and a little torquing of the gear and it was ready to finish off the battery. Mine does not glide well at all!!!! Then again when it is filled with the equipment that I put in in instead of what was recommended, one cannot complain. It still flies great.

I had an idea. Someone mentioned not enough elevator. Instead of taping the carbon, I sandwiched it between a 5/8" extension. Similar to the wing struts. It could always be trimmed a little.
Has any experimented with elevator size or have most of you been happy with it?
It will be another day or two before the first flight.
What are the lightest wheels 2" or preferably smaller yet?

Still no response on the last post. But I just finished it and the wheels should be in tommorrow. With the 340 pack it weighs in at exactly 10 oz. auw minus of course the wheels that should only be a few grams. I even added the elev. extensions, added small triangle stock to the firewall and epoxied all plywood parts.
I need to know what you all who undestand and have experimented with C.G. have found to work best. With the 340 3 cell pack, I cannot get the 1.25" reccomended for the first flight. It is back quite a bit making me a little nervous.
I would really appreciate any response as I will fly it tommorrow night if at all possible.

So, what to buy now?
AXI 2208/34 w/ 10x3.8 or
AXI 2212/34 w/ 10x4.7 or
AXI 2212/26
all on 3S 1320 Thunder Power w/ Phoenix 10 ESC
I ordered the plane already and need to buy a motor for it.
Thanks,
Chuck

The 2208/34 that this plane was designed around is awesome on my 10 oz. setup. It will gain an ounce after I get the 830 Apogee pack that Mike reccomended I try.
I have about 40 degrees of elevator and I think the 5/8" extension is not needed. I will trim it in half and experiment further.
I really don't see why Hobby Lobby says 1320 pack. I get under 5 minutes with the 340 pack but the 830 should be plenty.
Mike, If you catch this, I was hoping you could reply with what wheels you were using again. I want to say Mpi 2". You are sure right aboult these 4 bent spoke wheels I bought. They are very weak but this plane floats in so slow and smooth it hasn't been an issue yet. I will gain a little weight with the other pack and receiver but will drop a little with the HS- 55 servos and micro whip antenna.

Hi Derek,
Maxx produces 2" lite wheels and NESP also sells them.
The 830s with the 2208/34 on a 10x3.8 prop is what I'v been flyin.
I like it.

Thanks Mike,
Someone at our club has also ordered one and I meant to ask when you were expecting your next bunch. He ordered it directly a week or 2 ago. Thanks in advance.

Hi love the plane! Just wondering what size prop and batt are you using?
I'm running a 10x3.8 and a thunderpower 1320 3 cell.
is this good enough?
THANKS LOVE THE VIDEO

Brent,
Try the 830 or 860 3cell packs. I like it light!
I think I like the 9x3.8 alittle better then the 10x3.8,but the 10 is fine if you like it.
I have my CG about 1/2" in front of the hinge line on the top wing.
I use the 830s and I place on them inside the fuse over the lower wing.
Makes the hover real easy!

Not much been said about the Hell Raiser lately - How are they all going?
Mine is awsome, I just had another flight in my lunch break.
I flew it in the street at a friends place in the weekend - there was a gusty 20kt wind which made it really interesting!
What mods are people doing? I added carbon to the firewall and this has prooved to be fine. I also added some carbon to the landing gear because I knew I would end up doing stupid things like flying in 20kt wind! I haven't broken the landing gear yet! been through 2 sets of wheels but they are cheep...

Hey, I'm thinking about getting this plane and I have a Hacker B20-18L I would like to put in it. I don't have a gearbox for it and I'm wondering what exactly would I have to buy in anything, to install this motor? Also, if someone could tell me how this thing performs with the B20-18L, I would greatly appreciate it.

NZ,

How did you add the carbon to the Landing gear? Does it make a V? I am just finishing up mine, and I think the landing gear is the weak spot. I also added a very light tail wheel.
My kit came with the double firewall and recommends 2" tape down the sides. Did you also do that?
Thanks,
Larry

Larry,
My kit was an earlier one without the doubled up firewall. - I just wraped some carbon fibre cloth around the front corners (where the firewall was attached to the sides) and soaked it in CA. I did not add the two 2" strips of tape to the sides - But I strongly recommend this as I have broken my fuse in half twice! I will certainly be adding the tape to my next one.
With the landing gear... I wraped the thread around the wire and light ply as suggested but I also seperated a strip of carbon fibre and wraped it around the ply former just a little higher than where the landing gear exit the fuselage. I then soaked the carbon in CA and it is solid as a rock. I have hit the deck a couple of times (due to wind of course!) and it has not seperated.
I think the tail wheel is a good idea - I added a wire skid to mine, I felt a little more tail weight would not do any harm.
I think you will be impressed with this model, especially the knife edge preformance!
Just make sure you fly it in to land and don't let it drop a wing.
Happy flying!
Patrick

Here is my Setup:
AXI 2212/34
Thunder Power 3s 1320mAh
Phoenix 10
APC SF 10x4.7
2 aileron servo
12.3 oz
First flight 35 min which gives an average of 2.2 A just cruising around.
Second flight 31 min with some harriers, torque rolls, inverted and other standard acro gives an average of 2.4 A.
Did not need more than half throttle for all the stuff!!
Ordered 2 new Thunder Power 3s 860mAh to safe 30g.
Still need some up elevator trim to keep it level during slow cruise. Inverted needs a touch of down stick.
Tried ailerons as flaps just a little as read in a test, but during slow flight it gives me more descend due to probably more drag. Skiped it.
Snapflaps (elevator to ailerons as flaps) work fine and help tight turns.
Still turns out of tight loops.
Most stabil harrier I have seen on a plane without any wingrock. Even in no wind you can park it in the air with throttle.
I was not able to knifeedge. It either turns out of it or goes on down elevator.
Hope the TP 860 get the CG further back.
Chuck

Tip Stalls? Not at all! This plane will elevator straight down in a stall. Some of this depends on where you set the balance point. But, trust me, tip stall will not be in your vocabulary.

I am the same person as tmaniaci im just using a different name. But i am new to electric 3D flying but am very familiar with gas powered 3D planes (we have a FuntanaS .40) I read on some of the other message boards that the hell raiser has some bad habits in knife edge flight is this true? Also is this a good plane to get started in electric 3D? How durable is this plane, can it take a crash?
