Hi Guys,
Quick question I need to know how tall the DV sitting on the ground without the wings on it (I have a cover on my truck and want to know if I can get the thing out to the field) The price of the plane seems ok unless I have to get another truck.
Thanks Mike,

Told ya... It does seem large for a 50c bipe...
I posted some short videos you asked about in this thread earlier...
It's a MAJOR keeper... lovin' every minute of it... would replace it without question if needed.
Bewtten this and the great flights the 87: EF Yak promises... I don't think I'll be looking for another plane for a while...

Ok guys, I need some advice from people more experienced than me. I ordered a cannister for my DV and was going to mount it tonight. After removing the cowl, I noticed one of the engine mounting bolts sitting loosely in the engine box. Not good. Then I started looking more closely at the plane. My major concern now is the engine box. The firewall has been pulled away and although I see where there has been some epoxy applied to the inside, I can't imagine this is OK. Also, there is a repaired crack on the side of the engine box that I don't know if it is a structural part. If so, I don't think that's good either.
Also, the bolts on the inside of the motor box don't have washers and have dug into the engine box. They're also loose.
Here's some pics. What do you think?

On one of these DV threads someone posted a 5 point rudder mix that Chip Hyde had shown him. If anyone knows where that is please post a link for me. I have my knife edge mix pretty good but if I do High Alfa knife edge its real bad.

well i have to admit that i'am not very happy with mine. I either have to remake the bottom of the firewall to get the DA 50 to fit with a wrap around muffler or still cut the cowling out to get the regular muffler to fit.
Am i missing something here or is this the way the engine fits. They give you no center lines no thrust lines , nothing just a goofy stensil that doesnt fit the firewall at all.
I kinda guessed where the center line of the fuse was and went with that , and that puts the muffler about a 1/4" up into the firewall.
Just seems to me for 620.00 plus shipping you would get alot better of an instruction manual , i'am not complaning about the whole manual just the motor mounting part. They pretty much tell you nothing!!
Seems that if you designed a plane to fly with a DA 50 they would have made the engine fit on the fuse and inside the cowling!!!!!
To be perfectly honest i'am thinking about selling it.

coony2787,
Yes, you have to cut away a little of the firewall to mount the motor. Remember this plane is a fun design. You're not building a scale master project. All planes have certain little "issues". Once you fly this plane all these little issues will be soon forgotten. I have put together 4 of these planes and it just gets easier each time. Take your time, measure twice then go for it. If you're still unsure, you can contact me by e-mail and I will help you through it. This will be a very rewarding project when you're all done. [email protected]

yes you are right !! but i could really use the center line to get the motor mounted properly. If i used a tuned pipe or a can i think i could get away without cutting the firewall. Any thougts on wich pipe or can to use , should i just order it from DA ?

Chad,
Did you see the pic of mine with the pipe test mounted? Take a look and tell me what you think. I don't think you'd have to cut any of the firewall away for a cannister.
I'd order it from DA. The last time I spoke with them MTW was sending them premade header pipes specifically for the DV.

Your pic of the pipe mounted made think about putting it on mine. But sound levels is not an issue at our feild so i just decieded to cut the bottom of the firewall off and rebuild it. Seemed to be the eaisiest and not to mention the cheapest. I just turned my motor straight like yours and threw that dang template away that Chype Hyde sent , by the way the updated version of the template requires you to cut one of the mounting lugs off the DA engine , I'am sorry but there is no way i'am cutting a 600.00 motor up!!!!!!!!
Other than the motor mounting issues the plane seems to be pretty good , wont be long till i get too fly it !! So i will really know then what i think of it
