I like the plane and think it flies great, the covering is another story, i do not think replacement covering is readily available, after ironing the covering, it keeps coming loose, maybe I need to recover it like the red Budwieser one, looked great! Anyway, here is some measily hovering after than fine video of flying.

i m really interested in this plan but the forums gone slow on it , is it everything its cracked up to be?
thanks
thanks
Cons- Covering
Time to assemble at feild and dissasemble (Goes for most Bipes)
Tail wheel wire is weak, to small for size of plane
Although not a begginner plane, instructions could use some improving still
Want to fly it all the time!
Pros- Want to fly it all the time!
Nice aluminum control horns and tail wheel mount, with ball bearings
Plane is beautiful
Nice landing gear
Plenty of room to work in, very sturdy assembly
Flies wonderful!

An observation which may be useful :
I have just started assembling my DV, the aileron horn re-inforcing plate is in the wrong place on the ailerons. The plate is a piece of triangular light-ply which corresponds in shape to the triangular foot of the supplied horns. If you centre the horn on the ply plate the bearing in the horn is in line with the servo spline i.e. centre line of the servo, and not parallel to any arm length you care to fit !! with 15mm arms only one screw of the horn bites into the plate. I have installed additional support and re covered the area. Not really a complaint the kit is superb but it could be easily corrected at the factory.
Can't wait to get it flying looks really good and very light.
Best wishes
Paul.

Paul,
The plate is in the correct position! You need to put the horn lined up even with the side of the plate. In this way when the servo is at full throw the linkage will have the proper geometry for maximum holding power.
I posted about this earlier in the thread.

Thanks for the reply, not sure I fully understand this, none of my third scale stuff has anything but parallel linkages. I will go in the workshop tonight and have a play.
Thanks and best wishes

Chip Hyde has an updated manual on his web site. He also has a diagram of the plate and contrpl horn setup that Mark is talking about.

Just received my DV,beautiful, but I have a few questions if ye guys would be so good as to answer ,
on the last page of the instructions (updated online version) it says you can use 2 y-leads for ailerons,it also says this setup will allow a flap option ( ailerons can be dropped ) , can anyone explain to me how this is possible??
Also it recommends lowerring the leading edge of horizontals , but mine seem to be in line with trim ( appeared to be lowerred already) , do I have modded version? or should i still lower by 1/8th as instructions say?
On another note , I would like to use a duralite 6v regulator (with 2-cell 2000mah li-ion), anyone know if its safe to use as I will be using all digitals? unsure of current capability of these regulators ( and receiver also ) as i would like to use 7 digitals , and 2 standards for throttle and choke. would I be overloading regulator/receiver?
Another question , what length extensions for each servo did you guys end up using or each servo?
Thanks for any responses , gotta say it seems a lotta plane for the money!!
I am impressed so far

Yes I can see this is a workaround, the original instructions issued show a parallel set up and instruct you to use a set square to ensure the pushrods are at 90 deg to the aileron leading edge. This method of positioning the horn to the edge of the re-inforcement only stregthens my opinion that it has been made in the wrong place. The geometry shown introduces unwanted exponential and differential, we set petrol helicopter throttles up like this when using a governor because a non linear response is necessary.

I now have maybe 10-15 flights on the DV and absolutely love it. This past weekend just locking the harriers.......but i have had a few things happen.
1- the tail wheel wire must be made of some brittle material, looked a little bent , wnet to spring it back and it snapped. Hey no big deal. Miro'd the wire and bent a new one easy.
2- Saturday two more things happend. Flying knife edge and whew there goes the top left wing yellow stripe, no harm, just now need to find yellow covering to match. and yes, I did put an iron to the whole plane, evidently not enough heat.
3- then while performing a flip loop to a harrier, the canopy blew off. no problem, the plane flew fine, got hte canopy back. Discovered the hathc latch vibrated apart. I think I have all of the peices, I just havent taken the time yet to cut a hole in the canopy face of the turtle deck to see if I can get it all out.
Anyone elese had any minor issues?

yes the tail wheel is brittle, had to replace mine. used an ohio superstars assembly. Havent lost any yellow yet but there are some of the blue stripes underneath the bottom wing that are MIA. My hatch latch is fine so far but it did fill a little mushy the last time i had the canopy off, will have to have a better look at it before going up again. Performance is great, the trim covering is not so good. detracts from an otherwise nice airframe. wish the whole world would just use ultracoat.

I was just wondering. Seems that several of these aircraft like to loose a few their feathers (stripes) every once in a while. Would a solution be to clear coat the aircraft? I must say that my experience with this type of monokote finish or glossy finish I'm very limited. I have put clear coat on some of the fabric type materials and it really seems to bring it all together (no more wrinkles). Any thoughts on this - good/ bad and what type type of clear coat if a possibility.

So all the dv's hoover and torque....
At which throttle level ? Half way ?
Are the zdz50 and DA50 more or less equivalent ? Which is best ?

COuld sum1 please tell me 2 things:
1 Is it safe to use a 7.5A regulator to power 7 x HITEC Digitals and 2 x mini for throttle and choke????
2 What way did ye setup aileron servos?? ( ie 2 x Yleads etc ) . As I would lke t use flaperons if needed.
Thanks To Anybody Who Cares To Respond

Has anyone flown one!!!!!!!!!! How did ye end up setting up your ailerons, 2 x Y Leads as in instructions?? i cannot figure out how this will allow use of flaperons on top wings and still have aileron control??? please someone elablorate, I thought the best use of flaps on a biplane was to lower top ailerons only?
Thanks
Thanks

paper,
I can't answer your question on what the best way to use flaperons on a bipe is, but I can't see a way to do it either if you "y" the surfaces. I have all my ailerons on separate channels.
Also, I can't see any reason why you couldn't use a regulator for your servos. I don't know what a 7.5A regulator is. The only thing I know is you don't want it putting out more than 6 volts.
Flew mine this weekend. I am no where near the pilot some of the others who posted videos are, but this thing flies really easy. I always have my friend/ test pilot do my maidens and he said it was a very easy plane to fly also.
The only problem I had was the yellow stripe on one of the wings came off (like I didn't expect that
). Everything else worked fine. The cannister on the DA50 was awesome. So quiet.
Can't wait to get better with this thing.

I am surprised this thread gone so slow , must be a lot in the air by now, everybody pleased with them?? just strange that any new posts seem to be in the classified section with people trying to sell them, are people impressed with the flying of this model??
So come on guys , let us have some new flight reports!!!!
