I personally don't think that is enough servo...I'd use HS645 or 625. They are metal gear and stronger. The sign of not enough servo is when your alerion comes off in flight.

Thanks

I've seen people get away with standard servos and only 2/56 rods on the Do,however they covered the hinge gaps and used strict throttle management,no full open when level, only for up-lines. I dont recommend or use such light gear but it can work if you are carefull. The people I'm refering to are top flyers(hovering 40%'ers & tail touching),I think they went with the lightest gear for weight savings.

The only chance of flying this Christmas weekend was on Friday with rain expected in the afternoon,I only had a few hours so I grabbed a plane that's easiest to setup & least worrysome-the Do,what else. I got in some interesting flights with a right to left wind @ 5MPH, I did some hovers DOD that covered 100yds or more, kind of cool. I keep trying to make the plane stationary(hovering) by angling it into the wind but I think such small planes dont do that well. I can manage it when its dead calm but not in any kind of wind. I see some of the giants do this but its been out of my reach, maybe the Double Vision will do it for me,I got a video camera for Christmas, now I can get a vid in my profile, once I figure out how to use it,I'm becoming techno-challenged as I age! I got some of the wife & family, you have to be careful with it,they can get upset if not "ready" for video. Coming soon at a theater near you (or RCU),"THE DO ROCKS ON", soon, you will believe!

I cant believe we're getting another golden weekend, will have to hurry & figure out the video camera,I can shoot video in VF/VR mode, whatever that means? Hope to do some very low hovering and capture it for all to enjoy,I want to show how this Do harriers especially, everybody knows it hovers well, but it harriers very well too. Does anyone know what recording mode&file type will play on this forum?

I just purchased a U Can Do 60 with a Saito 125. Its my first 4 stroke and it looks like a work of art. I plan on beefing up the plane in the usual areas, landing gear, firewall, tail wheel. I just bought some Hitec 635's to go with it. Does anyone else fly with the Saito 125 and what prop are you using? I purchased a 16x6 for break-in.

16X6 should work,I used a Zinger 16.5X5 but didnt get the performance I wanted to hover an 8.3# plane. I got some videos of the Do hovering and harriers,a friend of mine came up with a new 3-D maneuver:hover-to- landing with 33% H-9 Cap,the engine still running! I got that on vid too, just need to figure out how to get it on the computer, its a DVD Camcorder so I think its ready to go as is,no capturing software or firewire needed, will find out soon.

No luck with the vid, getting disc errors, think I lost the whole disk-damn!!! I tried some different things with the .60 Do last weekend,I did some slow HA KE circles, very small, tight circles & let it drop each time around until its down low, then fly it straight away, still holding the slow HA KE,no other plane I have ever had can do that. I've had a Do for over 3 years now and still finding differnt things.

January14,2007: rain was in the forcast for the entire weekend but Saturday was dry enough to fly & 60 with light winds,a whole crowd was out there flying. I have new videos on a 8cm mini-DVD,it plays in my home theatre DVD changer and in the computer too but I have no clue how to get it out on the web via e-mail,its too large a file, almost the entire 1.4 GB disk. Need to work on that but anyhoo, since it was suposed to rain any minute(but never did)I just took out the Do to spank around,Its my cheapest, oldest, most crappy looking plane but I had a great time with it. Some of my friends wonder when I will "retire" the Do,I reply with "I might get a new(4th) Do! I can do all the 3-D stuff with it,now I need to start putting things together, fly one stunt into another. We all did a bunch of huckin and tail touchin.

I think I have it figured out, just need a Digital Media Converter to get the .vob file to another "compressed" file type like Avi,Wmv,Mpeg,ect.... Still huckin with the Do,did a bunch of tail touching last weekend, doesnt look good for upcoming weekend though,ah well,it is January! Vid coming up soon I hope, nothing special, just want to share our South Jersey flying with the world.

good to see this thread still has a little action well i got the do ready for its maden the other day just waiting on the weather to be right witch ant looking real good for a while heres what i ended up with 4-40 rods and ball links added flywires to the tail, pull-pull on the rudder, sulivin tail wheel atached to the rudder with a rubber band, fuel tank moved to cg, cline reg, with a magnum 120 4c on the nose witch seems like its going to hover it under half trottle but thats just by holding it pointed vertical and makeing it pull out of your hands a little if you was to let go the gear was a little light for my taste so i made a nice little shock for it witch works very well so far cant wait to get to fly it added some pics if you see any thing that dont look bolted on good or something dont worry yourself to much i just kinda set it together for the pics oh and i airbrush for a living and so i couldnt help but use someone elses idea that was thrown around back when this thread was new to help the looks a little

msn_jrd....

Nice looking UCD. One of my VERY favorite airplanes. Really fun.

My only suggestion would be to cut the beautiful cowl wide open. You need a lot of cooling with the UCDs. I cut mine almose all the open. You'll overheat the engine if you don't. Other than that, great looking plane.

Thanks
Barry

I have a U Can Do .60 that is supposed to be here tomorrow. I will be powering it with a Webra 1.20 and a 17x4 prop. I am pretty excited about it. I have read a ton of great ideas here that I will implement during construction.

Heads UP!! I had a Great Planes, U Can Do, had! Probably 25 flights on it and it flew great.
Flying last weekend, pulling into a slow speed inversion the center wing section of the left wing panel literally exploded. Aircraft was destroyed. Gathering the pieces there was no left horizontal stabilizer and elevator, and the center section was gone. I t appeared to just explode turning the air into confetti. Studying the wing we found there was no glue attaching the ribs to the leading edge spar and the remaining spar web was just a light tack glue.
I think the plane is a great predictable flyer but there is something lacking in attention to detail in construction of this model.
I have a flying friend who purchased one after watching and flying mine and to the date it's still flying but has developed severe flutter. He is debating to pull the covering from the wing and inspect his joints.

Awesome nose!!! Maybe you can just cut out the black area around the teeth,it will look like an open mouth-JAWS!!! Barry brought up a good point about cooling, you need air flow over the cooling fins at least, may be OK in winter, will burn up in summer. Not a bad idea for the gear, I found the Showtime gear to be perfect for the Do,an extra inch height and just the right amount of flex to absorb shock, and as a plus it breaks before ripping out the wood-dont ask me how I know! I still love my Do,if I could only get a freaking break with my DVD-cam-corder,the second vid will not convert to .Wmv files-gets MS Dos error-GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Hello guys,

I have a do 46 and I like it a lot. I was wondering if the .60 will be good with the OS120AX, anybody try it with the stock muffler. If anybody let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Eric

os 1.20 would probably work well, I have old OS 1.08 & its perfect, just the right amount of power & weight. If the 1.20 weighs near the same, I would go for it.(I've also had a Moki 1.35 in a .60 Do,if it fit,the 1.20 surely will). If you want to 3-D,70-80 4-strk is not enough IMO. With snow in the forcast we still went out flying on Sunday,(Jan 21)it didnt start untill later in the day and the winds were light and the temp was around 37. Only a couple of "die hards" there but it was good enough for huckin down on the deck,I keep bringing the Do when its bad weather, guess I'm saving my pretty planes for later. I'm bringing the rolling harriers down to 10ft now, still dont like any lower. When I really screw up, the plane ends up heading straight down, havent done that lately but that's why I'm taking my time getting down low in that maneuver. Other than a few hovering tail touches, nothing new happened. A new member has a Giant Do,this should be interesting.

Ultimate 70 is barely adequate for the UCD 46. That thing has the same power as Surpass 70, and not as reliable.

Magnum 80 also has the weight and power of Surpass 70, belonging to UCD 46, not the 60 size.

Give it a good range check,pre-flight check & go for it. If its tail heavy, make sure you have some expo on elev,it will be a handfull otherwise. Keep the 'Jaws" away from little birdies!

i plan on range checking the #$%* out of it with it runing at diffent speeds to make sure i dont have any "noise" afecting any thing from some of the metal to metal conections on the fly wires and the spring on the gear i have the antena away from every thing so i think it will be fine has been so far and i have run a little more than a tank trough it 30 min or so
I opened up the cowl some more i could go more if need be i just started cuting till it looked decent thought i would see if yall thought it would be sufficent
and ill do by best to keep "jaws" from getin any other birds
