MSN, only a recommendation here, but I'd open the bottom of the cowl up alot more. I have a large oblong hole in mine. The larger the exit hole the better. That tunnel in the fuse doesn't flow as much air as one would think.

UCD # 3 is history, lost it in a hovering TR on the deck. It was moving with the wind and the tail hit which made it cart wheel,it broke in half just in front of the wing. I could have fixed it, but dont have the heart. Everything else survived,so it would be easy to get another one up but since I started a Double Vision,I'll finish that & then we'll see. I'll probably buy it now and keep it for the right time, when I'm in the mood for a Do again. I had a flame out in a wall this past summer, it fell to the ground from 4 feet up,just broke the prop & bent the gear a little. The cart wheel strike did much more damage even though it was on the ground. I also have a Velox waiting to be built, the New Do will fit in there somewhere,it will be like a quick build since I saved the pushrods,gear,horns,cowl,tank-all in good shape.

hope you get a #4 up and runing. If it makes you feel any better i got to maden my do witch is #1 (well see how long that last)
the weather hasnt been very good lately but sunday was nearly a perfect day at least for feb.
it really is an awsome flying plane started it up engine was runing perfect it didnt really want to set still though (i just took it as it ment it was ready to go) gave it half throttle and off she went a few clicks of up trim and one click of right ailron and she was hands off landing was perfect checked it out and off we went again then about 15min later another landing better than the perfect first one!![8D] only had about a foot role out mabe less fueled up and took her up again 7-10min mabe then i got to dead stick it for the first time it was unevent full nice down wind landing i was only up about 30 feet or so i just turned around and landed 25 yards past me prior to that it was showing no signs of any problems was runing perfect
started it back up it ran but it was like it wasnt geting any fuel with out chokeing it so i pulled the line off the carb and suck fuel through it with the pump thinking that mabe it was trash or something i am runing a inline filter before the cline. but that didnt seem to help same thing only way i could keep it runing was if i choke it then it would catch up and run for a sec would sound good and strong then start to dye rechoke it for a sec and it would pick up and run then fall out again like it wasnt able to get enough fuel
tank had good presure no airbubles in any lines check the needle vaule for trash too that as far as i got with it havent looked and again yet at the house but ill probally start by geting another tank and rubber band it to the side or something at the right hight and close enough to the engine so i can bypass the cline and stuff to see it thats where the problem is at it was an awsome three flights though this is going to be a really fun plane cant wait to go again
hope you get a #4 up and runing. If it makes you feel any better i got to maden my do witch is #1 (well see how long that last)

The clines are very sensitive to anything in the line, even the smallest debris. Bypassing it is a good way to narrow it down to where the trouble is. After a few years of needing to clean mine out every now & then,I finally put a filter in-line before the Cline, its been running for 9 months without a clog now. I dont hard-mount my Cline, just leave it dangling by tie-wraps & make sure it doesnt touch anything else.

That is a great combo, the 1.08 is near a 1.20 in power/thrust, the plane handles the weight penalty just fine, mine was around 8.2 lbs. I'm going to buy another .60 Do & let it sit like a fine wine-- until its time!!

I will get another Do,its the cheapest, lowest pucker 3-D flying Ive found so far. If you can do it cheaper with same size plane, let me know. I think I better get a spare too!

I got my Uci done this weekend, and ran in the 1.08. OMG, monster power! the apc 17x4w is pulling 9400rpm on the 1st tank! this thing is going to be a 3d monster. I had to add just under 3 ounces in the tail to get it to balance at 5 inches, but am fairly happy with that. It's weight on the scale was 8.97 pounds. I figure the power to weight ratio should be over 2to1.

Sounds good, you could try a Zinger 17X5. I cut mine down to 16.5X5 & taper the tips just like APC. The CG can go back to 6" or a little more but fly it at 5 at least for a while to get use to it. I put my receiver&battery behind the wing to get CG near 6" without tail weight, had to cut a hatch on the bottom to do this. Mine was under 8.5 lbs and had good pullout from hovers, not rocket thrust but good. The Zinger 17X5 seemed the best for instant spool-up and keeping the speed down.

Because I like the quicker spool up a lighter wood prop gives you and whenever I looked for that type of prop, I could not find it, even within APC's web site. I get such a good lean mid-range with wood and instant response, plus they are easy to "tune" to my liking for 3-D.

I tried the APC 16.5x5W. I couldn't quite pull it at my elevation. I could only get 8800 RPM. The thrust was the same as my 16x6 at 13lbs 4ozs. If I could have spun it to 9100 RPM or so I'd have been very happy. As it was the thrust was the same but the low RPM loaded the engine too much and overheated it. At sea level or about...it would be an excellent prop.
Thanks
Barry

Barry ,
Sorry, as the 110 spins that prop fine at sea level and it's a real toss up with the APC 16 X 6 though. Between it and the 16.5 X 5W IMO it's a little better on spool up and control if that's the best explanation. I'm also running 20% nitro not 30%, so that can make a big difference. I know what you are dealing with at elevation and that is obviously a factor
.
Mixmaster,
Problem is that a wood prop close to sea level will spin on the hub and actually smoke with the power of the mighty 110FZ, don't believe me, ask Acrojo
. BTW, When are you going to pitch that OS 2 banger in the trash

yep, the torque of a 4-st can throw a prop, but I've used wood on Sa 1.50 with no problems,i've actually broken wood props starting up 4-stokes by hand-another reason to go back to 2-strokes,I dont need to waste $$ on 30% fuel & engine, I can do it all DOD with a 2 banger.

My 4th Do is on the way, I just had too much fun with it to give it up. I might use CF strips & rods the whole length of the fuse so it'll take a little more abuse without breaking in half somewhere. Its light, but there is a trade off for that. I'm going to paint the spoileron switch red, maybe that'll remind me to shut it off if I have another "emergency bail out". The other thing is I think I like to hear my Giant Scale friends *****/moan about the Do,I love it when I do a harrier figure 8 just off the deck and then pull to hover DOD,maybe a tail touch or 2,then when they bash it, I just say: whats the problem, it does everything?!
