Archie - know exactly what you mean...
Ed, yes plastic bolts. New undercarriage mounting plate did the trick, shered the undercarriage off twice more today[&:], but both times just the bolts broke. Though into the repair shop after the second flight as the it was quite a heavy landing[:@]. On inspection found I had managed to break one of the spars again. Now repaired.
Luke and I had a great day. As Surrey says, perfect weather
. I was concentrating on some more precision practise. I was doing knife edge circuits and figure 8s (both horizontal and vertical) for about half of one flight. Now getting comfortable doing ke with the belly towards me. Luke and I tried some formation ke passes. Not too good, don't know if Lukes dad got a photo or not.
Also practising rolling circles, and even managed a couple of rolling figure 8s
.
Luke was doing some lovely harrier passes, and his rolling harriers are getting really good now. I managed to video some of it, I'll send the video to Luke in a while.
So I think I am really improving, as Archie says, it encourages you to push yourself. What I do need to work on is how to land on the wheels on the strip[&:]

hello
Philly I didnt mean you. What I meant was I have only built 2 artfs and they have lasted me yonks. So for someone who has only made 2 artfs, looking at the build is doesnt seem so difficult.

I'll try that. But probably won't be a swap having already cut the vent apertures out of the front! Even with those removed weight is 3ozs. Seems a lot to me?

i went to metal bots after i came in on a harrier landing and put my spats up through the wing[:@]
a friend also did the same without the spats seeing as they didnt take kindly to that first crunch.
i've made sure the UC plate is well stuck but at least the metal ones will take some stick before the plate goes.
personly with all that ply in there anyway i'd like to see the plate much bigger to take the forces trying to twist it out

winter has been no capiche flying at all
got the Cougar out today for the first time in 2 months, no wind, suns out, jumper sleves rolled up!!!!!
hangings a bit rusty, never was much cop with no wind to push against but it wanted to TR alot, did it a few times, even had it walking around the patch in the hang nose in and stuff.
after having the First FF wing you'd think it was me who'd be having all the fun on it before anyone else even got a try

Had an even better day today with the capiche, engine going really well, every manuver much better. Sprink seemed to get all the bad luck, he broke his undercariage off yet again x2[&:].
Is there any news on that 14x5 N APC archie? would like to try one of those.

i didnt fly tho great weather, far better that yesterday, mby of got some better shots of my flip than the ones i posted
All i kneed to do is sand my C50 fuz and do a bit of fuilling then its done. What you see in the pic is 11 1/2 oz (320g). Is this about the norm? The horizontal stab isnt glued, tail is.

Well, got the photos back - Thanks Graeme.
Two of harrier passes, a successful knife edge pass and about 3 seconds before impact (you can easily see it banked slightly onto it's back)

That's looking good
Can't wait for the 140exs to get built and flying at Elmridge. Have to get some formation c50 flying practice first!

Some of you guys are moaning about the uc coming off...
I put it to you that this is not a problem with the model but what you do with it ! Mine has done lorry loads of harrier landings and never come out...
Sure I have a tarmac runway which makes a big diff.... but you guys really should stop hitting the ground so enthusiastically, and as for unintentionally...
Theres some great shots there... send me your best ones as JPGs... [email protected] and I shall get them uploaded to the site in due course - I think some of those can qualify for the Freestyle Gallery !

it's a problem with having to learn to do something new on less than perfect surfaces
at least most other hard to do 3D things can be done at height.
my attempts started as normal elevators that i just didn't pull out of, that was the first time the plastic bolts snapped, What looks like 1-2' per second float on the way down is infact, once you get to about eye level, is 4-5' per second[X(]
i then tried the blip of power to slow the decent but that just raised the nose so much i decided not to try that lower, trying it again and letting off the elevator at the same time got me into a very snappy stall type thing.
Until i can do what look like good harrier landings at height i won't try it on the deck again, tho i do now have soft 3" wheels and metal bolts
or if i finialy get around to building a SPA3D
Becides, with the jinx caused by the time delay of getting it flying again i'm not throwing anything risky at it for a while. What ever made me think it'd be flying within two weeks
think that "subaru" look on Kevins C50 is great[sm=thumbup.gif]

I dont think i have landed my C50 normaly in the last 30 flights. and i normaly do 3 or 4 Harrier landings in each flight. my plane is still at Zero maintenance!! (although i have had to nip up the screws that hold the cowl on a few times
)
I also have only landed the Capishe 140EX in this fashon for the last 10 flights, again no probs (and 1 or 2 of these Harrier landings were not perfect!!)
PS, Archie, Malc was concerned over the wing strenth on the 140 after shaving half a pound of the weight. tel him not to worry, i did at least 10 real HARD walls yesterday and she is just fine

Archie, not blaming the C50. You will remember that I managed to crash and destroy the nose before ripping out the u/c at all. I rebuilt it, and at the time thought that the landing plate had survived ok.
With hind sight, it may also have been slightly damaged, enough for it to come out with a less than perfect landing. Each repair it got weaker. Now a completely new bottom for the front of the fuz has done the trick, at least it terms of not ripping out the plate.
Anyway, forgot to mention last night that I finally got around to sealling the aileron hinge gap (it was quite big in places[&:]). Hope to see if anything has improved as a result.

Nice videos Archie! liked the harriers especially. Are spoileron mixes (or any other) used in any of the 3d vids or are they just flown *normally*?

EVERYTHING is flown normally...
only change is for most of the 3D style manouvres I have the high elevator rate switched in... thats it.. spoilerons are NOT required on this one...

agreed, although I find my elevators fall faster with spoilerons, without them it comes down quite slowly
looks great falling at speed completely horizontal
looks great falling at speed completely horizontal
