Hey Arch.....I finally had a go of a Capiche 50 at the weekend! Reckon I could really get used to that....nice,
just felt the elevators were a bit unerveing....but it was Daves set up with hideous amounts of chuck.
I love the parachutes it can do.[&:]

Was it windy by any chance !?
Glad you enjoyed it... windy weather handling is another forte I think of the model... and god knows we get enough of it over here !

Someone earlier on this thread mentionned a Graupner Giles 202 in comparison to the Capiche 50.
Ibe just finished putting one together for a winter hack.
Hes it has good size control surfaces and you can get greater than standard throw for an ARTF.
I put my redundant Magnum 61 RFS that I previously had in the Capiche 50 (now YS 63), and that is a light motor..
Here is the comparison, I knew where we were headed but I had n idea it would be such a difference...
Comparison is against my C50 data with the Magnum 61RFS in for fair contrast.
Capiche 50
55" span
4.28 sq foot wing
4lb 11oz AUW
Wing loading 17.5 oz per sq foot.
4 x JR 591 and 1 x S3003 servo
Giles (I have fitted the C50 RX, and battery in this model so identical here)
53" span
3.57 sq foot wing area
6lb 9oz !!!!!! AUW
Wing loading 29.4 oz per sq foot
4x S3003 and 1 x JR591
HOLY COW ! Thats nearly TWO POUND HEAVIER !
Clearly this thing aint gonna have great vertical with this engine in it and clearly it aint gonna wanna prop hang !!
Im gonna need 90 4T or 60 2T to make this perform and landings are gonna be "enthusiastic".
Mmmm just aswell its a hack about... will be okay for aero but not 3D !
Im sure it could be made lighter but it does bring home to you the potential impact of going ARTF...
The wing is actuall 1lb 11oz, and the fuz 4lb 14oz - thats heavier than the entire C50 with that engine in... (its now a few ounces heavier with new motor etc)
Anyway... thought I would share the data with you....

Archie, That sounds like a fair comaprison backing up my thoughts on the comparison I have done between the two. My Giles has a 61 2-stroke in the front, and that pulls it around well. Landings are very fast, however I've experimented with flaps etc to try and slow it down. In 3D flight it is no match for the Capiche 50, it doesn't come anywhere near.

Fiddling agout test fitting fibreglass cowl to fus on sprogs Capiche50 last night and got to the point where I didn't want to sand off any more of the front end in fear of leaving it weak. The cowl is still too tight but thought I'd check with the experts before removing more to enable it to fit. I sanded the inside of the cowl down to remove the rough edges. Is this the norm?

That sounds very odd.... not heard of that before...
Where did the cowl come from ? IH or Carbon Copy direct ?
Is it the original or the new closed cheek type ?

Mine fitted perfectly, but it is a close thing. As with Ed, I went with the old style cowl, which will have a bit more give on it than the new one.

Cut the bottom out with a good "D" shape this will not only give good cooling but will fall on the fuzz.
The 140 is the same it needs big cut out to clear U\C etc. You might find if yours is a glass cowl it has been layed up a tad heavy. If you read RCM&E you will see a great view of the Boys hanging look at the cut out and his is electric!!!

I had to just smooth out the joints inside the carbon cowl (closed cheek type[8D]) fitted on my C50. Got a handy 13 mm wide hand held belt sander at work though, just right for the job.
Haven't touched my plane since last year now, just waiting for the engine from IH.
By the way, anyone know what the Flair single pack fuel proofer is like? Sure I heard somewhere that it didn't like much nitro, especially YS strength 20% but it was all the local shop had in.
Also, what fuel thats easily available do you lads with YS's use? I could easily pop up to Weston for some Prosynth 20% (£23 a gallon
) but is it suitable?

flair fuel proofer as u said dont like nitro, works fine when fuel proofing ofer paint or solartex (wot ive used it for) but i wouldn't say its substantial enough engine/ fuel tank bay.

Flair Fuel proofer NO NO!!!
if you use 20% it will be gone first run.
You can use Model technics YS brew (its 20% oil and 20% Nitro) Ali also does a range of fuel for YS Motors. I use the Cool Power 30% heli fuel (red colour) I dont know if westons do a YS brew. if they do it will be fine but most "standard" fuels do not contain enough Oil.

Cheers Dave ,I'll check what fuel the local shops have got, or can get, and then maybe speak to Weston or Ali.Bet that 30% costs! do you get noticably better running with it over the 20%?

Just a few things to say:
1.I spoke to alan weston uk and he says the do recomend their fuel for YSs. buy direct from them (4 glallons min) and it cheeper.
2.If YS 20/20 eats fuel proofer, what do you use?
3. People with YS 63s, Were did you place your fuel tanks? Im thinking the rear part of the tank bay
4. just reserved my servos, 4x 3010s at 15.50 quid a peice
. I could get them early next week but i want my YS first but i dont know when thats going to be in.
Also, Jimbo, Coolpower is a smaller american gallon (imperial? metric? somthing like that, could be sold in 4 litres
). It is THE best fuel but its very expencive. I use Bekra 10 for most stuff, model techincs YS 20/20 for my YS when it come. My fuel is also red, tho the blue weston stuff is a nice colour[&:].

cuban, bring it to flying site at the weekend if your going there and well have a look at it,but your probably have to do what the baron was saying and open up the bottom off the cowl,i wouldnt sand anymore off that cowl though, will end up like robs undercarraige on his swallow

]) and its fine
