I picked up a NIB YS 91AC today to go in my UCD 46. I've been flying it with a Saito 65 and really like how it flies but it should be much more fun with the YS.

Hey Guys,
SPUD here, just thought I'd get caught up with the thread and say hey. Had military last weekend & this just past weekend had some friends in from state of Wash. and they wanted to go on down to the Keys. So I loaded up the foamies and got some quality e-time in. This Sunday coming should be open for some UCD time. Happy to see everyone is doing well no cut wrists or crashes, & even a couple new folks on the thread. Well SPUDs outa here, see ya....................

Hi guys. Great to see Spuds back. 9105, you'll love your plane with the 91. It will blow you away.
At risk, I'll mentioned I maidened the Showtime today (read about it on that thread) And guess what, it flys just like a souped up UCD46. What a ball. That thing lights my fire like the UCD does. It's just more precise but it flat spins way good, maybe even rise, when I get my engine figured out I'll try it again. Right now i just get it going good and it rolls out but it will do them nice. Very cool plane. Sorry to captivate the thread but I know you guys would want to know.
Thanks,
BArry

Hey Spud!! You're back! And you had some folks from Washington? [8D] Washingtonians are the nicest folks around...... well, except for Gary Ridgeway and Ted Bundy.....[:-]

Hey Barry, Glad you got to fly your Showtime. [8D] Cool!! Bring on the stories and pictures. We'd love to know more.......

You asked. Love this plane. I think it's even more fun than a UCD, if that's possible. Flys very similar but is a little hotter on landing and does waterfalls better and KE is considerably better except it just won't do a KE coupling as well
Here's some pictures.
Thanks,
Barry

I've never really had radio problems. I use 4.8 volt because I think you have less static interference and I try to keep radio antana away from servo/battery leads as much as possible but they still run pretty close. I always punch a hole right out the bottom of the plane and run it outside the fuse on the bottom and use a rubber band to tie it to the tail wheel to keep it taught. Works for me.
Thanks,
Barry

38 .... I also have not had Radio problems... I run a 6v on the Hitec
onboard gear and my Radio is an Airtronics... I have the three servo
leads on the top half of the fuse and the ant. on the bottom and it exits
just before the tailwheel.. So far so good... Well I do have a fuel tank
problem,.... We just can't come to terms on how long to fly.... I always
try to go the extra mile.... But the tank always wins... The UCD is a
floater... But sometimes it just won't float that far((((

CeeGee...It's not really more fun...but it's man it's awful close. It really is a sweetheart of a plane. I'm learning to love it. But rest assured I'm still flying UCD. In fact last night I dropped a 110 in my UCD60. I'll fly it on Saturday. And part of the reason for that was to free up my rather nice Saito 100 for my new UCD46. Now, those planes are gonna be fun.
Rfaria, KE = Knife Edge.
Thanks,
Barry

Man... wish I had room for one of those Showtimes. Awesome.

Question, guys: have any of you ever run your Futaba 8U down to the point that the display won't come on? I left my whole rig out in my shop/storage building with no a/c during this heatwave. I was going to fly yesterday when (no surprise) all my batteries were dead. I guess 3 weeks of inactivity will do that. What I'm wondering is whether or not my display won't come on because that battery was so low, or because it got fried in the heat. I'm leaning toward the battery because a lot of people like raideron and gjeffers are out in more than 105° heat, right guys? That is as hot as it got here in OK recently, and despite the no a/c, that building stays 10-15° cooler than the outside unfailingly. I'm charging up my stuff right now and I'm gonna try it after work. We went from 105° to 83°, and if I get to fly, it will be the coolest weather that I have ever put my UCD into . Hover city, here I come!!! If, of course, the transmitter is working. [:@] I hope someone here has had this happen before and will tell me it will all be okay. Grrrr..... The funny thing is, when I turn the thing on with airbrake or throttle cut activated, it will still give me the angry "Hey stupid turn off your functions" beeps.

I'll keep you updated. I may be sending it in for repairs. I can't recall what the manual says, but it probably puts an operational temperature limit of 85° or so on it. Who is lucky enough to live in a place where it never gets above 85°. I know in my years of living in Louisiana and Oklahoma that I've never seen a summer that cool. Oh well.... one way or another I'm getting it fixed and going flying. I could just hear my little OS whimpering yesterday like "You haven't even started me in 3 weeks!!! I like the taste of fuel, not this stupid after-run oil. GIVE ME FUEL GIVE ME FIRE GIVE ME THAT WHICH I DESIRE!!!!!!!!" Sorry... little Metallica moment there.

Anyways... Solo out.

brokensolo...May what a bite. Just charge your spare radio and go fly. Ha Ha.

I've never had that happen but I try not to leave my radio out in the sun because sometimes the display will disappear after it sits in the sun a while.

Let us know what happens, I'm curious.

Thanks
Barry

Hey guys, been a little while.

So I have never crashed my U-Can-Do, (knock on wood) but it has been hangar rashed to death. My wife accidently caught the prop the other day while it was sitting downstairs on my bench and it tumbled off making sure to impact a box on the way down crushing the port side aft turtle deck quite a bit. So, I figured hey the time is right and I have fixed the plane, but I peeled all the covering off to get the new look going.

I wll submit a few pics when I get it done, but imagine Yellow and Black checker board cowl, control surfaces wheelpants, and spinner, solid black body and wings with GIANT checker board on the bottom of the wings and solid yellow stab and rudder surface.

About half done now and it's looking deadly.

Pictures to follow in a day or two.

Tom

Got the YS110 mounted in my UCD60 last night. Haven't run the engine yet, will break in tonight and maiden tomorrow. This plane, I call Scarface, looks a little haggard from previous crashes but she flys very good. I'm hoping even better with the 110. Even with all the extra weight from repairs she's not fat. My digital scale says 8lbs 2ozs right on the money. With the havier motor I moved the battery/receiver back as far as I could reach (with out cuting a special hole etc.) and she balances right at 4 7/8" Before I was at 5 1/8" That's pretty close considering the engine weighs 6.5 ozs more than the the trusty Saito. I also moved the tank back to mostly inside the canopy area (one of the benefits of YS). This helped with the balance I'm sure. This CG is exactly where the manual recommends. I'm gonna fly there and see if I need to rebalance. I've been as far back as 5 1/2" but didn't like it there and moved to the 5 1/8" where I liked it. Liked it a lot! The 60 is like the 46 where you can balance all over the place and still have it fly great. The 46 is good anywheres from 4 1/2 to 6. I perfered about 5 3/8" or so on that baby but didn't like the 60 that far back.
Anyways, with my two new planes, Showtime and Yak...I'm stll hungry to fly the UCDs. Still some of the greatest planes out there. And greatly underrated I think. I'm betting this 110 is a riot on the UCD. And it's almost a one pound lighter than other planes with the same engine. She's gonna rocket out of a hover. Maybe even as good as my good friend gjeffers!!!!!
Thanks and have a great day.

Hey Barry, Is there anything comparable to the Showtime? Not something with the SFG's, just comparable in flight?[8D]
What did you put in for an engine in yours?
