Yeah, its pretty much right in the middle of that picture. It was easier to see before we started poking around, but by the time I remebered the camera we had already moved it a little bit.
It came out in great shape, it probably wont take me more than an hour to get it fixed and repair the covering, than i can put teh Magnum 91 in it, wahoo!
CeeGee, I dont like flying alone much either. Its amazing we have a small club of like 15 guys but I only ever see 6 people there and its always on Saturday. The rest of the time there is no one there. Its just not as much fun by yourself. Wether you do something great or stupid there is no one there to see it.
What size prop is best for this plane and the Magnum 91.

sctcrash... Great job on your UCD retrieval... Looks in great shape..
I'm putting my mag 91 in mine also..... Well if I ever get to working
on it.... I have the mount on
... That only took 4 days... well about
15min. after I started... But I've stopped again...
I use a 14X4W APC.. it seemed to work great on my 4* and should
do better on the UCD... I did try a 15X4.. But my mag did not like it
it was shaking my plane pretty good... It seemed to turn it good tho..

Hey Guys,
SPUD here-I use a 15-4 on my OS 91 4c. Pulls real well. The guys at the field on SUN were wondering how I could go straight up like that. One guy there couldn't believe that I would put a 91 on the front. Then he saw the verticle performance.
Our club down here usually meets on SUN and the rest of the week is clear. Works out good when your trying new things. Then go out on Sun & show off( well try to show off anyhow).
To the Grandfathers out there= great looking kids. Do they like to fly? Maybe the next Patty Wagstaff there-
-Who knows?
Wanted to test fly my super stearman today, But the wife came up with something better. So she said.
Well SPUDs off to do honey do's................see ya

Hey Barry,
Sorry I never got back to you about the prop. When I was in Orlando on vacation I had grabbed a bunch of props, well I had a 15-4 in the bag. Thanks for the offer though. Well two guys are commited at the club to buying a couple of my planes. I've narrowed my next plane down to the showtime or skysharks edge 540. I want them both but the purchases would depend on the hanger thinning out a bit. I'll let you guys know on Barry's review page.

Well I got in some awesome flying today. Man that was fun. I did some stuff I hadn't tried before. [X(] My elevator broke though and I do have another UCD tail section to swipe one from but I don't know how to take the CA hinges apart. Can you take them out or do you have to install new ones next to them?
Gjeffers, here is the link to Barry's article - [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3231989/tm.htm[/link]

CeeGee... I believe the only way is to cut them at the hinge line and
make new slots off to the side of the old ones.. You can carefully cut
out the old CA hinges with a hobby knife... But then you have to use
the thicker pinned hinges since the slot will be a little bigger or you
can go with Robart's.... Anyway that's how I was told to do mine and
it worked great...

Ceegee, i have had to rehinge on my old Somethin Extra and I cut new slots and it worked great.
Your solution (an actual link) to getting to Barry's thread was much easier than mine.

Hey CeeGee,
I had that problem with my CAP580 when I found the rudder was off center. I cut at the hinge line then I used my hot knife and just melted the old hinges out. Placed new ones in thier place. About 70 flights on them with no problems. Hope this helps.
SPUDs out..............see ya.

CEEGEE, get some dubro pinned hinges and like everyone said just cut on hinge line and use a h-knife and cut thim out by running it along side the hinges and pull them out.
just got back in from flying and man, this thing knife spins great, getting better all the time, did learn a new way to enter and it might work for you guys trying with no luck, just enter stall nose up and give full dn ele(no rud yet and give it some gas(just like a water fall) then as it goes into a spin start in left aileron and it starts to go over to knife spin then add a little and i mean a little left rud and thin start doing your own small adjustments from there and i think youl all be suprised how goood t does them, i cant remember all my throws but if needed i will go dig them out, i do know you will need a lot of ele, alot of ail and some rud with around 65% flaperons, now go do it guys[8D] oh and my cg is at 5 5/8

HI guys.. um.. i'm about to buy this plane and i would like to know some info on this plane... would a saito 100 be good on this plane? balance problem? landing gear problem? recommended servos? anything else i should know about this plane before i buy it and fly it.. sorry i didn't read through the 122 PAGES of thread...
#3039
welcome xoon, here are a few tips
saito 100 works great, just need the 60size mount and redrill holes in firewall.and mount 1/4 in above marked thrust line.
gear block is weak, just dont use wheel skirts or you will end up with holes in your wing, and when it breaks on a landing it comes out clean, just beef it up then.
saito 100 only weighs 21 oz and cg's with this plane great.
dont use the cowl mount blocks, just screw right into side and into firewall blocks(that are inside).
ill leave the servos to some of the other guys because i use jr537s and they work great for me but i would really like to get some hitec 645's.
also oon, you need to get the engine as close to the firewall as possible eithout hitting the mount screw
HERE ARE SOME PICS

if it's the .60 the 100 would work but it is too much power for the .46 UCD. use stander servos on everything but the rudder. use a high toque for the rudder
i use 5 hitec 425-bbs and 1 475-bb servos
the plane will float for every but does stall
it's easy to build, 1 day
and if you put the 100 on it never-ever fly full throttle unless you're pointed strate up
there's 12 UCDs at my field and all or us love it
the landing gear is full proof but never have a rough landing or you will strip it off, the plane WILL LAND GENTLE BUT IF YOU DON'T IT WILL BE BOUNCE AND IF YOU LAND IT LIKE THAT ONE TO MANY YOU WILL STRIP IT
it you want it tail heavy you will have to add tail weight
and last have the best pilot help you with it

38 IS RIGHT ABOUT NOT FLYING THIS PLANE FAST, SO IF YOU DO USE A 100 DONT GO TOOOOOOFAST
USE A 15X4W APC,BUT I DO LOVE MINE WITH A 100 BECAUSE IT IS LIGHT ENOUGH AND I CAN GET BACK UP FAST FOR ANOTHER INVERTED FLAT SPIN

xoon... I just installed my GP engine mount for my Mag 91, But I
just used the firewall engine mount marks and the Mag/cowl fits
great.... I know Gary said his fit better engine/cowl raising it for
the saito.. Guess he'll pipe in... I just taped the mount on and
checked the fit before drilling....
Added some pics
.... Don't mind the holes
... I'm "SLOWLY"
operating.... I think it'll fly again.... When is the question...

Raideron, that was the GP mount that came with the plane? Just checked UPS and my Magnum is at home waiting for me. I am pretty sure it will fit further back in the mount than my OS so I am not sure if I should redrill the current mount, get another mount just like the one that came with the plane, or get a larger 60 sie mount. I would prefer to not have to redrill the firewall if i dont have to.

Ron, You gotta get that thing back together again and flying. You're starting to scare the kids again....[X(]
Thanks guys for all the tips and info on hinge repair. I gotta get this thing flying again. It's starting to bug me to see it sitting on my bench all crippled looking. [:-] What is a hot knife though.....?
Gjeffers, one of these days I'm going to have to fly down there and do some flying with you. It sounds like you've got the manuvers down......[8D]
I miss Barry. I hope he comes back soon.........[&o]

sctcrash... I'm not sure what mount comes with the UCD, I got
my plane used and it already had a Hyde soft mount/YS 63..
If it comes with a adjustable GP mount, you may be able to
spread it far enough to fit the bigger engine but I'm not sure..
If not you have to redrill... It's not too hard but it is a small
space to work in more so if your hand are big....
You could always do as I did and pancake it in after running
out of fuel and ripping the gear section out... It gives you a
bit more access to the area

sctcrash.... I'm not too technical but... I broke both my mag's second
being a replacement on the bench... I run it rich, but not 2 stroke rich
I used a tech and after starting the engine I peak it then I backed it
down with the needle valve by about 5-600 rpms, I ran the first two
tanks that way and on the third and fourth tanks i started to
intermittently peak and back off with the needle valve... Then I started
flying still running it a bit rich.... It worked for me.. The engine has
never dead sticked, starts easy and has a bunch of power...
I called and replaced the first Mag because I kept breaking the muffler
pipe when I was using the 15x4 prop, the engine turned it well, but the
pipe kept breaking no matter what I did?? So I called and Mag sent me
a free pipe/muffler and said to balance the prop which I was doing and
all else looked good??? Anyway I lost that pipe/muffler also so on the
phone again and Mag(Great Service!!) sent me another engine... But I
had the same problem using the 15X4... So I went to a 14X4 and no
more problems???? If your trying the 15x4 let me know how it goes
Edited
... on 1/2 of the second tank I did start peaking the engine and
using a temp gage I watched the head temp.. and let it get a bit hotter
before going back to the rich setting... You do want the ring to seat..
all my adjustments is with the needle valve with the throttle wide open....
CeeGee... I know, I thought I'd get it done while the boss was gone.. But
then the little boss came to watch me:-)... And I have one in the Box to
finish... I'm flring the profile now... But I have been going to the field less
It's just TOO HOT........
Gary... I have to try your way into the K.E. spin....
